Why does Gatsby offer Nick some side work,

Gatsby offers Nick some side work because he says
that Nick doesn't make a lot of money. Nick refuses
because its illegal, and Gatsby was just trying to help
him but Nick just had to cut him off there.
The reunion with Gatbsy and Daisy was very
awkward, “I certainly am awfully glad to see you
again”, “A pause; it endured horribly” (Fitzgerald 91)
The overall atmosphere was very quiet and Gatsby
was very nervous.
Gatsby knocks a clock off the mantel. The clock
might symbolize the time between the past and now
(5 years since they have seen each other) and how
the time has fallen away from them and how they
will never get it back.
Gatsby wants to show Daisy his house because he
wants to impress her with the lifestyle he is living in
now. Gatsby shows Daisy is silk shirts, she says “It
makes me sad because I've never seen such—such
beautiful shirts before” (Fitzgerald 98) She is very
affectionate towards the shirts and Gatsby.

“As I watched him he adjusted himself a little, visibly.
His hand took a hold of hers and she said something
low in his ear he turned toward her with a rush of
emotion” (Fitzgerald 101) I have a feeling that we are
going to be seeing Daisy and Gatsby together a lot in
the following chapters.
