Work in pairs. Student A will read the following paragraphs from the text:
• Why did railways develop?
• How did steam engines help?
• When was the first accident?
Student B will read:
• What was the Golden Age of Steam?
• What replaced steam engines?
• How fast can trains travel now?
• How can trains further develop?
After that, fill in the mind map in Exercise 2 by reporting to each other the parts of
the text you read.
2) Fill in the mind map; in each of the boxes write two -three most important
facts about various stages of train history. Accent the one you think was the
most significant.
