 I am Hala, an overseas dentist from Libya. I applied for dental hygienist registration
with GDC last year and I am so so happy my application was granted in one attempt. I
also got my GDC number in December last year and I’ve been working as Hygienist

 I'm an overseas dentist from Iraq and wanted to register as a Dental Hygienist in the
UK. I had applied to the GDC but got rejected, that's when I started to look for some
support and found Dental Hygienist Advisory Board through recommendation.The
response from them was so fast and comforting which was so much-needed due to
the limited time to re-apply to GDC without any additional fees.

 First and foremost, I would like to extend my gratitude to The Dental Hygienist Advisory
Board and I cannot thank them enough for all their efforts in the process of my
application as a dental hygienist in the UK. I am a Registered Dental Hygienist from
Canada and I initially submitted my own application, although I had all the
qualifications to work in the UK I was declined.

The application process is extremely meticulous and with the guidance and dedication

miss one thing when re-submitting to the GDC. I cannot stress enough this would not

Can overseas Dentist/ Hygienist/
Therapist work as a Dental Hygienist or
Dental Therapist in the UK?
Overseas qualified Dentists/ Dental Hygienist or Therapists are eligible
to submit an application with General Dental Council (GDC) for an
individual assessment to register as a Dental Hygienist, Dental
Therapist or Orthodontic Therapist. If the application is successful and
GDC accepts it, the foreign-trained clinician will be able to register
themselves as DCP.

And, yes, upon registration, they will be allowed to work in the UK.

We are an advisory service led by an expert panel of Dental Care Professionals,
based in the great waterfront city of Portsmouth in the UK. We focus on guiding
overseas Dentists, Hygienists, Dental Therapists to be able to register with the UK
General Dental Council (GDC) as a Dental Therapist/ Dental Hygienist/ Orthodontic
Therapist/ Dental Nurse/ Dental Technician collectively known as Dental Care
Professionals (DCP), ensuring that the criteria of Matter C {Sections 36C (4) and (5)}
together with Matter D {Section 36C (6)} of the Dentists Act 1984 is met.
