Hemp Reinvented Revolutionary Uses of Carbon Nanosheets & Composites
Composites
1.1 Overview of Carbon Nanosheets
Once the hemp plants have reached maturity, they are ready
for harvesting. Harvesting can be done either manually or
mechanically, depending on the scale of production. Manual
harvesting involves cutting the plants close to the ground
using sickles or specialized harvesting tools.
After harvesting, the next step is retting, which is the process
of separating the hemp fibers from the woody core of the
plant. Retting can be done through two main methods: dew
retting and water retting. Dew retting involves leaving the
harvested plants in the field for several weeks, allowing the
natural moisture and microorganisms to break down the
pectin that binds the fibers to the core. Water retting, on the
other hand, involves submerging the plants in water for a
specific period, which accelerates the decomposition
process.

6.1 Case Study 1: Hemp-Derived Carbon Nanosheets in Energy Storage
6.1.1 Introduction
In recent years, there has been a growing demand for
efficient and sustainable energy storage solutions.
Traditional energy storage technologies, such as lithium-ion
batteries, have limitations in terms of capacity, charging
time, and environmental impact. This has led researchers to
explore alternative materials and technologies for energy
storage. One such promising material is hemp-derived
carbon nanosheets.
