B. Acquisition

What is an interview?
An interview refers to a formal consultation between two or more people,
the interviewee, with a primary goal to acquire/obtain specific
information from the interviewee through a series of questions.

Basic Steps to Achieve a Well Conducted Interview


 1. DO A LOT OF RESEARCH – Be knowledgeable about the subject
matter.
 2. CONTACT YOUR INTERVIEWEE PERSONALLY – Setting up personal
interview is your main goal.
 STUDY YOUR REARCH WELL BEFORE WAITING YOUR QUESTIONS –
One of the reasons you are conducting an interview is to obtain
information.
 4. PREPARE THE BASICS – Do not forget to bring a pencil/ paper/
pen/ notebook/ journal or recording device.
 5. BE PUNCTUAL – Making your interviewee wait for a long time is very
unprofessional.
 6. CONDUCT THE INTERVIEW IN AN ORGANIZED, PROFESSIONAL
MANNER – You are most likely interviewing a professional individual.
 7. TAKE DOWN INTERVIEW NOTES PROPERLY – Even if you are
recording the interview, you should still take down notes.
 8. REVIEW YOUR INTERVIEW NOTES AND START WRITING –
Recognize your interview notes by highlighting the important pieces of
information.

C. Make-Meaning

Small Group Discussion: Divide students into small groups and


distribute the interview tips handout (optional) or have them copy
relevant points from the textbook.

Problem-solving: Ask students to brainstorm:


What kind of problem-solution informational article could they create
using interviews? (e.g., How to Study Effectively for Exams, Coping with
Test Anxiety)
Who could they interview as an expert on this topic? (e.g., teacher,
counselor, upperclassman)
