Abstract

Low return on equity investments and poor performance which continue to lead to
merger and acquisition agreements in the Nigerian banking industry have been linked to
high level of employee mobility and relocation of banks’ employees abroad. It is on this
basis that this study assessed the effects of employee mobility on organisational
performance of deposit money banks in Ado-Ekiti metropolis. The specific objectives
were to determine the effect of knowledge transfer on the performance of Deposit
Money Banks; the effect of knowledge sharing on the performance of Deposit Money
Banks; the effect of reward system on the performance of Deposit Money Banks; the
effect of hedge relationship on the performance of Deposit Money Banks; and the effect
of employee buy-in on the performance of Deposit Money Banks in Ado-Ekiti Metropolis.
Using descriptive survey research design and total enumeration, 299 copies of
questionnaire were retrieved from the 311 respondents involved in the study.
Descriptive (percentages) and inferential (Simple linear regression) statistics were used
to assess the effects of the proxies of the independent variables on organizational
performance in the Deposit Money Banks in Ado-Ekiti metropolis. Findings revealed that
all the five proxies had positive and significant effects on organizational performance,
with knowledge transfer and knowledge sharing being the most impactful. The outcome
of this study indicated that employee mobility played crucial role in the improvement of
organisational performance among Deposit Money Banks in Ado-Ekiti metropolis. The
study, therefore, recommends that financial institutions should further prioritise
provision of platforms such as training or exchange programmes that facilitate transfer
of latest knowledge in the banking system and that, management of deposit money
banks should encourage seamless sharing of acquired knowledge across all cadres of
the workforce.
