2. It’s a good idea to give the students one clue at a

time, starting with clue one, just in case they
mistakenly do clue 4 before clue 1.

Instructions

There has been a terrible crime in your small town.

You have been hired to solve the mystery. Use your
knowledge of algebra to get to the bottom of this
mystery.

There are 4 clues. Solve them in order to find the

criminal. As you solve clues, cross out suspects who
may not be involved, and write your clues on your
‘Clue Sheet’. Once you have solved all of the clues, you
will have eliminated 4/5 of the suspects, with only the
criminal remaining.

Example: The clue is “Green” – This means that your

suspect is green. Cross out everyone who is not green.
