Assignment # 1

Reflection: Challenges Faced in Public Relation

Public Relation is very important in public service, but this is one area of the School
Heads’ performance indicator which I need to hone since I am a shy type of person with
melancholic personality. I started handling a school last 2019 when I passed the principal’s
test conducted last 2017. I was sent to School Heads’ Development Program Training before
I was assigned to Sayon National High School at barangay Sayon, Sta. Josefa, Agusan del
Sur as my first school assignment being a Teacher In-charge. That time, I started my struggle
for I handled 21 teachers, 378 students with 320 members of the PTA. The first school that I
was assigned to, was seemingly my training ground. I started to develop PR in conducting
meetings with my colleagues using parliamentary procedures, attend to barangay
development council meetings, talk to the BOD Officials, deliver a speech during
assemblies/programs and school activities.

I realized then, that to be a school head is not really that easy. Because we are the key
person to deliver plans, programs, and projects of the school for students’ benefits which is in
line with the school aims and objective. I’ve prayed hard to God, to give me wisdom in
everything I do, especially when I talked to some great people that would help realized our
plans and projects. There were sleepless nights I’ve experienced just to order my speech to be
able to deliver my thoughts properly, to convey the schools’ objectives for the students to
benefit. I eventually, develop my Public Relation with the support of my colleagues, relatives
who are in the politics and friends.

Now, with my third school assignment as Principal I of Veruela National High School
located here in Poblacion, Veruela, Agusan del Sur; I could say that I am proficient enough to
deal with our stakeholders. Thank God for the knowledge and wisdom He bestowed, I am
eventually learning through my experiences and His constant guidance. And I am also
thankful for the learnings I gained from this subject that enrich me more of becoming highly
proficient in dealing with the people surrounds us for the betterment of public service and for
the best of our learners.
