Over the course of the semester, I have learned about different types of

dances such as contemporary, hip hop, and folk dance. I used to think that
I danced well and that dancing was simple, but after realizing how much
work, practice, coordination, and preparation went into a dance, my
perspective changed. Dancing is all about having fun, strengthening your
muscles, finding balance for both dancing and inner equilibrium, and
utilizing your body to communicate your feelings. I discovered that dancing
is more intricate than I had thought. Posture, timing, poise, musicality and
expression, presentation, power, foot and leg action, and many other
factors needed to be taken into account when I moved. I discovered that
group contributions are necessary for collaboration, cooperation, initiative,
and teamwork in group dances. Without it, the dance will appear chaotic
because there won't be any synchronization between the moves, dancers
will bump into one another, the group will appear disorganized and focused
on individual movements, and the dance will be performed using very
amateurish techniques. A more individualized approach for me to dance is
to accentuate my motions and project energy. This dance class taught me
many useful skills, including peer collaboration and communication.

Dancing enables me to deal with a wide range of emotions and events in

my daily life, including anger, sadness, happiness, excitement, and
everything in between. I can just lose myself in the moment and forget
about the outside world when I'm dancing. Since no one is criticizing me
and I won't ever have to pretend to be someone I'm not or what other
people think of me, I can just be myself. I feel so free from everything when
I dance and I love that feeling. Dancing, in my opinion, is an art form that is
truly accessible to all people. Dance is not my career, but I will always love
dancing. It's a way for me to freely express my feelings through art. I am
incredibly appreciative of everyone who has taught and introduced me to
dance, especially our professor, Ma'am Jesel Wacan. Dancing is such a
huge part of my life now
