x(y + z) = xy + xz
Example
Evaluate 15 × 45
Solution
15 × 45 = 15 × (40 + 5)
= 15 × 40 + 15 × 5
= 600 + 75
= 675

This clearly shows that if we add zero apples to 2 apples we get the two apples only.
We can arrange the numbers using dots in elementary shapes like triangle, square, rectangle
and line.
Roots
● Roots are mostly the underground part of the plant.
● They absorb water and minerals from the soil.
● They hold the soil firmly to keep the plant upright and prevent soil erosion.
● Fibrous roots: In the plants like grass, the branches of the root come out from the
base of the stem. Such roots are known as fibrous roots.
● Taproots: In some plants, the branches of the root arise from a thick structure under
the ground which is called the main or primary root. Such roots are called taproots.
● Root hair: The fine hair-like structures on the branches of root are root hair.
● Lateral roots: The smaller roots on taproot are called lateral roots.

Difference and Prejudice: Differences can only be stated on the basis of a comparison or
categorization. Whereas, prejudice is an unfavourable opinion or feeling, formed beforehand
or without knowledge, thought, or reason.
Inequality and Discrimination Discrimination occurs when people act on their prejudices
or stereotypes because of several reasons. People belonging to different religions can be
an aspect of diversity but can also be a source of discrimination. Some people who may
speak a certain language, follow a particular religion, live in specific regions, or so may be
discriminated against as their customs or practices may be seen as inferior. Further, the
matter of different economic backgrounds is not a form of diversity but of inequality. Some
people may experience both kinds of discrimination. They are poor and belong to groups
whose culture is not valued. Tribals, some religious groups and even particular regions are
discriminated against for one or more of these reasons.

The Arithmetic and Logical Unit is responsible for arithmetical and logical calculations in
the system.
Functions of ALU:
● It is mainly used to make decisions like performing arithmetic and logical operations.
● All information that is exchanged between the primary and secondary memory passes
through the ALU.
