2 (3-Phase induction motor)

-------------------------------------------------------------
Q1// In case of Three phase AC,why three phase induction motor is the most
widely used?
Ans:- Because they doesn’t require any starting device or because they are self -
starting induction motors.
Q2// In star connection if the line voltage is increased what will happen to the
speed and the line current?
Ans:- The speed will increase, the line current will increase.
Q3//In delta connection if the line voltage is increased what will happen to the
speed , line current and phase current?
Ans:- The speed will increase , the line current will increase, the phase current will
increase.
*The speed  Line voltage(supply)

-Star connection:-
𝐿𝑖𝑛𝑒 𝑉𝑜𝑙𝑡𝑎𝑔𝑒(𝑉𝑙) = √3 ∗ 𝑃ℎ𝑎𝑠𝑒 𝑣𝑜𝑙𝑡𝑎𝑔𝑒(𝑉𝑝ℎ)
𝐿𝑖𝑛𝑒 𝑐𝑢𝑟𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑡(𝐼𝑙) = 𝑃ℎ𝑎𝑠𝑒 𝑐𝑢𝑟𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑡(𝐼𝑝ℎ)
-Delta connection:-
𝐿𝑖𝑛𝑒 𝑉𝑜𝑙𝑡𝑎𝑔𝑒(𝑉𝑙) = 𝑃ℎ𝑎𝑠𝑒 𝑣𝑜𝑙𝑡𝑎𝑔𝑒(𝑉𝑝ℎ)

𝐿𝑖𝑛𝑒 𝑐𝑢𝑟𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑡(𝐼𝑙) = √3 ∗ 𝑃ℎ𝑎𝑠𝑒 𝑐𝑢𝑟𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑡(𝐼𝑝ℎ)

Exp.3(Circuit breakers)

Q1//What is a circuit breaker?

Ans:- a device designed to shut off an electrical circuit when there is too
much current flow.
Q2//two types protection that some circuit breakers have..
Ans:- GFCI(ground fault interrupter circuit) and RCD(Residual Current
Device).
Q3//What is the difference between the CB and the fuse?
Ans:- CB does not need to be replaced to be reset.
Q4//What are the types of CB according to Voltage class?
Ans:- Low-voltage CB ,Medium-Voltage CB, High-Voltage CB
Q5//Medium-Voltage CB types?
Ans:-
• Vaccum CB (rated up to 6300A and higher).
• Air CB(rated up to 6300A and higher).
• 𝑆𝐹6 CB
Q6//High-Voltage CB types?
Ans:- classified by the medium used to extinguish the arc.
• Bulk oil
• Minimum oil
• Air blast
• Vaccum
• 𝑆𝐹6
• 𝐶𝑂2
Q7//Low-Voltage CB types?
Ans:-
• MCB(rated not more than 100A)
• MCCB(Rated up to 2500A)
*Some Notes
• CB is labeled in
amperes by letters but
not A.
• B ,C ,D …are used and
from these we can
know the tripping
current.

Exp.4(M-G set)
Q1//What is a motor-Generator?
Ans:- Refers to a device consisting of both motor and generator
through a common shaft.
Q2//What is it used for?
Ans:-
• used to convert voltage, phase and frequency of power.
• Used in isolation of electrical loads from the supply line.
Q3//What is the necessary condition for coupling?
Ans:- the rated speed of both motor and generator should be the same.
Q4//The types of conversion it performs?
An:-
• AC to DC.
• DC to AC.
• DC (at voltage level) to DC(at another voltage level).
• Alternating power (at frequency) to alternating power(at another
frequency).
• Fixed AC voltage to variable or Regulated AC voltyage.
• Single-phase AC voltage to 3-phase AC voltage.

The data on the plate:-

(If we want to know the power factor or anything else we can
find it on those plates)
Q5//why only DC is used for Excitation in alternators?
Ans:-Because only a DC voltage gives a fixed magnetic field.
Q6//What are the different types of excitation system?
Ans:-
• DC-Excitation.
• AC-Excitation.
• Static-Excitation.
*These two question are external but are important.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EXP.5(Contactor)

Q1//What is contactor?
Ans:- an electrically controlled switch used for switching a power
circuit, similar to a relay.
Q2//What is the difference between a contactor and CB?
Ans:- a contactor is not intended to interrupt a circuit current.
Q3//What is it used for?
Ans:-
• Motor.
• Lighting.
• Heating.
• capacitor bank.
• Thermal evaporators.
Q4//How can we change the operating voltage?
Ans:- by increasing the applied AC voltage.
Q5//How can we change the Release voltage?
Ans:- by decreasing the variable AC voltage.
