I. PREPARATION:

Skill: Drawing a Plain Scale with an example

(1) Objectives: (After demonstrating of the skill the trainees will be able to)

1. State Plain Scale

2. State the steps to be followed for construction of a Plain Scale
3. State precautions to be taken while drawing.
(2) Tools & Other requirements: Drawing Sheet, HB/H/2H pencils, Eraser, Cotton
cloth, Set Square.
(3) Introduction:
(a) Review: Purpose of Scales
(b) Motivation: Scales are important tool used for drawing & measurement purpose
II. PRESENTATION:

Procedure Information Points / Hints

(Do) Safety Precautions (Tell) (Ask)

1. Plain Scale A plain scale consists of a line

divided into suitable number of
equal units. The first unit is W/B
subdivided into smaller parts. • The
zero should be placed at the end of
the 1st main.

2. Steps of 1. Find RF (Representative

construction to fraction) of the scale if it is
PPT of solved
solve problems not given.
2. Find the length of the scale example
on drawing sheet= RF x
actual length of object.
3. The zero mark should be
placed at the end of first
main division.

divisions on the left of
zero mark.

3. Precautions
1. If the length of the scale
is not mentioned, take
the length of scale about
12cm to 15 cm.
2. RF should be mentioned
along with the figure.
3. The names of the main
units and sub units
should be mentioned
either below or at the
respective ends of the
scale.

III. APPLICATION:
1. What are the benefits of Plain Scale?
2. What are the steps to draw a plain scale?

Summary: Plain Scale and its steps of construction

IV. TEST:

Assignment: Construct a scale of RF 1:400 to show metres and long enough to

measure upto 60 metres. Measure a distance of 51 metres.
