Theme Song: Draw Me Nearer

SDA Hymnal No.306 by Fanny Crosby (blind), 1820-1915

I am thine, O Lord, I have heard thy voice,

and it told thy love to me;
but I long to rise in the arms of faith
and be closer drawn to thee.

Refrain
Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
to the cross where thou hast died.
Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
to thy precious, bleeding side.

Consecrate me now to thy service, Lord,

by the power of grace divine;
let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
and my will be lost in thine.

O the pure delight of a single hour

that before thy throne I spend,
when I kneel in prayer, and with thee, my God,
I commune as friend with friend!

Title of the Song: Draw Me Nearer – Fanny J. Crosby

Nyimbo Za Kristo: No. 144 - Ni wako Bwana – I am Thine, O Lord

Brief Story of Fanny Crosby: (1820-1915)

Fanny Crosby became one of the most recognized and influential hymn writers in history. She
wrote more than 8000 hymns. Her other songs are: "Blessed Assurance," "Praise Him, Praise
Him,” Jesus Our Blessed Redeemer," "To God Be the Glory," "All the way My Savior Leads Me,"
and "Rescue the Perishing" among others.

She was born in 1820 and lost her eyesight in infancy. While most families would be devastated
by such a crippling disability, Fanny's family saw the loss as a divine act of providence. Her
mother, Mercy Crosby, taught her "that sometimes Providence deprived persons of some physical
faculty in order that the spiritual insight might more fully awake[n]."1 The family knew God as
their "source of true pleasure and believed that all they had, came from God's hand."

Fanny's grandmother challenged her to fight for her education. She spent countless hours reading
to young Fanny long selections of literature and poetry and, most frequently, the Bible. As Fanny
listened, she memorized whole chapters and long portions of both Old and New Testament
writings. As a child she was able to memorize the first five books of the Bible. At the age of fifteen,
Fanny's prayers for a formal education were answered when she was admitted to the New York
Institution for the Blind. It was here, in New York City, where a whole new world of opportunities
would open up for her.

A Life of Opportunities

Fanny was a model pupil and was given countless opportunities to excel in her blossoming
giftedness as a poet. A natural at composing verse, she wrote stanzas as a diary for herself, as gifts
or letters for friends, for classes, school chapel assemblies, and the institution's large public events
and celebrations.

She quickly developed a reputation among the staff and many visiting celebrities that came to see
the famous school, which led to invitations to write and speak for even more prestigious venues.
She had the honor of being the first woman to address the Congress of the United States and also
was invited to dine several times at the White House. During her lifetime, she rubbed elbows and
formed friendships with around twenty Presidents of the United States of America.

Because of Fanny's prolific ability to write poetry and verse, she was introduced to and privileged
to work with several very influential composers. Each noted her uncanny ability to hear a melody
and quickly match deep and thoughtful lyrics to their tunes. Through these key relationships and
the forging of friendships, Fanny found a home with many hymn publishers and a vast audience
for her faith-filled lyrics. Over the course of her life she churned out over 8,000 hymns, publishing

many under a variety of pen names. Fanny's hymns have stood the test of time and are loved and
sung in churches.

Hymns

Fanny's hymns swelled in popularity because they were relatable. Her faith was simple, honest,
and rejoiced in proclaiming the gospel. Her comforting words connect deeply with singers because
she wrote from life experience, from the comforting vantage point of biblical truth. She most often
wrote songs centered on the themes of salvation, personal devotion to God, service to God, and
heaven. Songs like "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" connected with others who were grieving because
she was able to put words to the personal pain she and her husband experienced after their baby
died, while offering the hope of looking Heavenward. Her words brought comfort to countless
hearers.

Fanny's success and popularity as a writer and hymnist never kept her from living a life that
reflected the beliefs she so frequently penned. She loved volunteering in homeless shelters around
New York City, serving the destitute, praying for the lost, and teaching children's Sunday school.
During the cholera outbreak, she risked her own life to tend to the bedsides of the sick and dying.
Because of the love and compassion the Lord had shown her, she delighted in showing others His
love.

Lesson to learn from Fanny

Fanny never saw her blindness as a slight from God. Instead, she openly thanked Him for the ways
her visual impairment opened doors for her to serve Him in ways she felt she otherwise couldn't
have. She hadn't set out to become a prolific hymn writer; she simply wanted an education so she
might be "useful."

Fanny's ability to think of herself as a capable servant allowed her to excel in the strengths God
had given her, never being held back by self-pity. Fanny followed God's leading, walked through
each open door of opportunity with joy in her heart. Her life is a true example of walking by faith
and not by sight.

How might we serve the Lord more passionately and effectively if we focused on utilizing our
gifts, rather than hiding behind our limitations? Whether our hindrances are physical or emotional
barriers, real or self-inflicted ones, we must recognize God's sovereignty in our situations and
know that we were "created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand" (Eph.
2:10). Our Father loves us and wants to use us for the work of His kingdom, despite our limitations.
Like Fanny, we must learn to trust Him and let our lives of worship and service become a sweet
echo of her famous lyrics.

A SHORT STORY ABOUT THE THEME SONG – DRAW ME NEARER

Fanny Crosby, (1820-1915). The song was composed by William Doane (1832-1915). In 1874
Crosby was a visitor in Doane's home in Cincinnati, Ohio. That evening they talked about the
nearness of God in their lives, as the sun was setting and darkness was approaching. When Crosby
went to her room, her mind and heart were filled with the ideas that they had discussed with Doane.
Before she went to sleep, she quickly came up with words of the great hymn, "I Am Thine, O
Lord." The next morning she shared the words with Doan who wrote down the stanzas and
composed the tune. It is said that Hebrews 10:22 was actually the source of Crosby's
inspiration. "Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts
sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water." (KJV) The hymn is
a testimony of her relationship with Christ. The first stanza begins with a total surrender to
Christ. The second draws upon this surrender as an impetus of service. The third shows this
relationship developed through prayer and the final stanza shares that this close relationship will
not be complete until reaching heaven. Is this hymn your testimony? If it is; let it be our daily
prayer that we should be drawn nearer to our savior Jesus Christ who gave His life for us when we
were not worthy.

A word to the camp meeting Speakers 2020, East Kenya Union Conference

Receive Christian Greetings from EKUC Office,

We thank God for leading us this far. No one imagined that we shall make it, given the situation
that the whole world has gone through, the Coronavirus-Covid19. The experience that cut across
the globe, from the superpowers of the world right to the villages. The virus had no respect or
boundary, its impact was felt everywhere.

As a people we have gone so far from Our Creator. He then said, listen hold on, come aside and
rest a while, and that is the break people have had from their worship places, institutions of
learning, bars, sports, businesses etc. This indeed touched all of us no doubt.

As we begin this year’s camps, we need to remember the words of King Solomon in 2Chron. 7:14
“If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves, confess their sins, I will hear
from heaven, forgive their sins and heal their land”. Now more than ever we need the Lord to
forgive us our sins and heal our land.

SPIRIT OF PROPHECY

DAY 1

REFORMATION WITHIN THE CHURCH

Kindly take time prayerfully to go through the given texts and Spirit of Prophecy books
and get the message which God is passing to his people these last days.

Some twenty seven centuries ago, the inspired prophet Joel, under divine inspiration, depicts the
day of the Lord thus: Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in My holy mountain: let
all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh at hand; a day
of darkness and of gloominess, a day of cloud and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon
the mountains” Joel 2:1, 2

It is true that these words had an immediate historic application in Old Testament times, when
Israel was about to be invaded by an enemy people. But the word was also preserved because they
refer to the time of the end,the “day of the Lord the eve of the return of Christ to earth. The message
calls for the sound of trumpet in Zion that is the church. It is to spread an alarm in the holy mountain

of God, that is, among His people.

“Therefore also now, saith the Lord, “the prophet continues, “turn ye even to Me with all your
heart, and with weeping, and with mourning and rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn
unto the Lord your God…. Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast call a solemn assembly: gather
the people, sanctify the congregation …Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep between
the porch and the altar. And let them say, Spare thy people. O lord” Verses12 – 17.

In view of the earth sharking events that are about to occur in the day of the Lord,” church members
must be awakened by a voice of alarm; they must seek a profound and genuine conversion – one
of all the heart, In other words, a spiritual reformation must be effected in the church in preparation
for the great events of the time of the end.

There is no doubt that we have already arrived at the very eve of the supreme hour. Therefore, this
calls for a genuine conversion and complete reformation, life must resound now throughout the
whole circumference of Zion.

DAY2

NEED FOR REFORM

“Revival of true godliness among us is the greatest and most urgent of all our needs. To seek this
should be our first work. There must be earnest effort to obtain the blessings of the Lord, not
because God is not willing to bestow His blessing upon us, but because we are unprepared to
receive it.

Our heavenly Father is more willing to give His Holy Spirit to them that ask Him, than are earthly
parents to give good gifts to their children. But it is our work by confession, humiliation,
repentance, and earnest prayer, to fulfill the condition upon which God has promised to grant us
his blessing”- ISM 121.

“God’s people will not endure the test unless there is a revival and reformation. The Lord will not
admit into the mansions He is preparing for the righteous, one soul who is self-sufficient”7T 285.

“A reformation is needed among the people, but it should first begin its purifying work with the
ministers” IT 469.

“Let there be a reformation among the people of God “– Messages to young people, page 317.

“A revival and reformation must take place under the ministration of the Holy Spirit. Revival and
reformation are two different things. Revival signifies a renewal of spiritual life, a quickening of
the power of mind and heart, a resurrection from the spiritual death. Reformation signifies
reorganization, a change in ideas and theories, habits and practices. Reformation will not bring
forth the good fruits of righteousness unless it is connected with the revival of the Spirit. Revival
and reformation are to do their appointed work, and in doing this work they must blend,” - ChS
42.

I have been deeply impressed by scenes that have recently passed before me in the night season.
There seemed to be a great movement – a work of revival – going in many places. Our people
were moving in line, responding to God’s call. My brother, the Lord is speaking to us .Shall we
not heed His voice? Shall we not trim our lamps and act like men who look for their Lord to come?
The time is one that calls for light bearing, for action.” .TT 441

“Before the final visitation of God’s judgments upon the earth there will be among the people of
the Lord such a revival of primitive godliness as has not been witnessed since apostolic times, The
Spirit and power of God will be poured out upon His children” GC 464.

DAY 3

CHARACTERISTIC OF THE REFORM

But Satan has been working vigorously to counterfeit the genuine spiritual reformation which the
Lord desires to effect in His church. This has been the method of the great enemy since the days
of antiquity:

(1)To adulterate the truth and

(2) Offer falsehood, in order to cause confusion, chaos, and ruin instead of true conversion.

Satanic counterfeits of reform

Declares the inspired pen:

“In every revival Satan is ready to bring in those who are unsanctified in heart and unbalanced in
mind. In all the history of the church no reformation has been carried forward without
encountering serious obstacles. Thus it was in Paul’s day. Wherever the apostle raised up a church,
there were some who professed to receive the faith, but who brought in heresies, that, if receive,
would eventually crowd out the love of truth.”- GC 396.

The seed which Luther had sown sprang up everywhere. Satan now attempted what he has
attempted in every other reformatory movement – to deceive and destroy the people by palming
off upon them a counterfeit in place of the true work. As there were false christs in the first century
of the Christian church ,so there arose false prophets in the sixteenth century” GC 186.

Just as he has done in times past, the father of all lies has been doing in our days. Even now he is
determined to disorganize the advent movement and confuse the children of God.

John 8:42—45.

This is how, during our brief history as movement, particularly in recent years, groups have sprung
up bringing in

(1) Disharmony

(2) Disunity: Led by men calling themselves “reformers,”

(3) They destroy instead of build.

(4) Their work has not stood the Bible test: “Ye shall know them by their fruits” Matthew 7:16.

The spirit of discord and strife

A common feature of false reform movements is the spirit of discord, strife, revolution, and
destructive criticism, particularly for church leaders. The spirit of prophecy advices:

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 11
“The time has come for a thorough reformation to take place. When this reformation begins, the
spirit of prayer will actuate every believer and will banish from the church the spirit of discord
and strife,”- 8T251, (ChS 42)

In other words, the first thing accomplished by true reformation is the elimination of discord,
criticism, and strife.

In describing several false reform movements, the messenger of the Lord says this of the leader of
one:

“He thought God had passed all the leading workers and given him a message” Then she declares
that she “attempted to show him that he was mistaken” – 2SM 64

She further stated:

“He said the leaders in the church would all fall through self –exaltation and another class of
humble men would come to the front, who would do wonderful things… He claimed to believe
the testimonies. He claimed them to be true, and used them… to give force and appearance of truth
to his claims” – 2SM 64, 65

But of this man and his message she wrote:

“The word of God came from God to me, believe them not, I have not sent them!” And she told
him that his “message was not of God; but was deceiving the unwary” 2SM 64.

Of still another who claimed a special message she wrote:

The same message and accusing spirit was with them – that is, that the church was all wrong and
God was calling out a people who would work miracles” – 2SM 66

Whenever any so –called reform movement excites a spirit of destructive criticism against the
leaders of the work and against the organization of the church, spreading discord and strife, we
have a sure sign, without further analysis, that Satan heads it and that it is a counterfeit of genuine
reformation.

Such movements, in order to gain followers, at first pretend to belong to the advent people and to
manifest Zeal for the work of God. But always in the end they split off into separate groups. But
for a while, until their true nature is unmasked, they cause endless trouble and mislead sincere
persons who are insufficiently grounded.

DAY 4

SATAN ACTS WITH ENERGY AND DECEIT

“At every revival of God’s work the prince of evil is aroused to more intense activity; he is now
putting forth his utmost efforts for a final struggle against Christ and His followers” GC 593.

Let the people of God arouse out of sleep and begin in earnest the work of repentance and
reformation; let them search the Scriptures to learn the truth as it is in Jesus; let them make an
entire consecration to God and evidence will not be wanting that Satan is still active and vigilant,
with all possible deception he will manifest His power. Calling to aid all the fallen angels of his
realm” GC 398.

Fanaticism

Among the means the devil uses to descript God’s plan to proclaim and produce a reformation
among his people, is fanaticism. He used this in the days of apostles and during the Protestant
Reformation – in fact, in all religious revivals.

Fanaticism will appear in the vey midst of us. Deceptions will come, and of such a character that
if it were possible they would mislead the very elect.” 2SM 16

Luther also suffered great perplexity and distress from the course of fanatical persons. And the
Wesleys, and others who blessed the world by their influence and their faith, encountered at every
step the wiles of Satan in pushing overzealous, unbalanced, and unsanctified ones into fanaticism
of every grade.

“William Milller had no sympathy with those influences that led to fanaticism. He declared, with
Luther, that every spirit should be tested by the Word of God….

“In the days of the Reformation its enemies charge all the evil of fanaticism upon the very ones
who were laboring most earnestly against it. A similar course was pursued by the opposers of the
advent movement “GC 396. 397.

REFORMATION MOVEMENT WITHIN THE CHURCH

We should be on guard, however, lest endue sensitivity to charges of fanaticism lead us to resist
the true revival, the genuine reformation that contains the characteristics which will be described
later.

When the Lord works through human instrumentalities ,when men are moved with power from on
high , Satan leads his agents to cry , fanaticism!” and to warn people not to go to extreme . Let all
be careful how they raise this cry; for though there is counterfeit coin, this does not lower the value
of what is genuine. Because there are spurious revivals and spurious conversions, it does not follow

that all revivals are to be held in suspicions. .Let us not show the contempt manifested by the
Pharisees when they said; ‘This man receiveth sinners’ (Luke 15:2)” – GW 170

DAY 5

NEW LIGHT

Another way the archenemy seeks to trap incautious soul is through the proclamation of so- called
“new light“ This observation does not, of course, indict legitimate amplification of the fundamental
doctrines already firmly established or clearer understanding of unfolding prophecies. But we must
keep in mind the following instructions:

“When the power of God testifies as to what is truth is to stand forever as the truth. No after
suppositions contrary to the light God as given are to be entertained” – ISM 161

Authentic new light must have the following elements of identification:

1. It will be 100 percent in accord with the Word of God, and it will not depend on any
whimsical and unbalanced interpretation of Scripture

Men and women will arise professing to have some new light or some new revelation
whose tendency is to unsettle faith in the old landmarks, their doctrines will not bear the
test of God’s Word, yet souls will be deceived” 5 T 295 (2TT 107).

2. It will not contradict any of the basic truths already established as immovable pillars in the
doctrinal structure of the church.

“He (God) does not give one man new light contrary to the established faith of the body.
In every reform men have arise making this claim” – 5T 291 (2TT 103)

3. Those who proclaim the new light will not be infatuated with the idea that they are superior
to their brethren, and that God has chosen them, bypassing His people. This in general, is
the exalted view leaders of so- called “reform movements” hold of themselves,

God has not passed His people by and chosen solitary man here and another there as the
only ones worthy to be entrusted with His truth “– Ibid

Additional characteristics of genuine reformation:

1. A spirit of power
2. A spirit of sincere conversion
3. A widespread spirit of self- denying missionary work
4. A spirit of praise and thanksgiving
These points have been gleaned from the following inspires paragraph:

“In visions of the night, representations passed before me of a great reformatory
movement among God’s people. Many were praising God. The sick were healed, and
other miracles were wrought.
A spirit of intercession was seen, even as was manifested before the great Day of
Pentecost.
Hundreds and thousands were seen visiting families and opening before them the word
of God. Hearts were convicted by the power of the Holy Spirit, and a spirit of genuine
conversion was manifest. On every side doors were thrown open to the proclamation
of the truth. The world seemed to be lightened with the heavenly influence.Great
blessings were received by the true and humble people of God.
I heard voices of thanksgiving and praise, and there seemed to be a reformation such
as we witnessed in 1844” – 9T 126 (3TT 345)

Introduction

Study chapter 27 in the Great Controversy, PP. 461-478

More than one hundred years ago, Ellen White told us what are greatest need is:

“A revival of true godliness among us is the greatest and most urgent of all our needs. To seek
this should be our first.” Selected messages (ISM 121)

In another statement Ellen White explains that revival must be accompanied by reformation: “A
revival and a reformation must take place, under the ministration of the Holy Spirit.” Revival and
reformation are two different things (yet inseparably linked). Revival signifies a renewal of
spiritual life, a quickening of the powers of mind and heart, a resurrection from spiritual death.
Reformation signifies reorganization, a change in ideas and theories (way of thinking, habits and
practices (way of acting). Revival and Reformation is the work of the Holy Spirit. Sin is the great
hindrance.

BIBLE STUDY LESSON GUIDE

Topic: Understanding Bible Prophecies.

Introduction: The Seventh-day Adventist church is a Bible Prophecy Believing Church. From
the very beginning of her existence, the church came up and was organized on firm foundation of
the Bible prophecies, especially those in the books of Daniel and Revelation. Her spread in many
nations can be attributed to the proclamations of these prophecies. Here in Kenya, many areas
“were reached” by the Adventist message either through prophetic literature (sold either by
literature evangelists or freely given) or by gospel campaigns which explained these prophecies
very well. I joined the Adventist church as a result of understanding the prophecies that explained
the change of the seventh- day Sabbath [our present Saturday] to Sunday.

“Sadly to say, the Adventist church has left the proclamation of the prophetic messages not only
to the church members but also to non-believers.” The church is filled with many believers who
do not know the difference between the Sabbath and Sunday keeping. The origin of Sunday
worship and other heretical doctrines such as infant baptism, the immortality of the soul,
everlasting punishment of the devil and his followers and many others. This is one of the reasons
why the Seventh-day Adventist church members live in a very poor lifestyle. They are trying to
copy the worldly fashions and standards especially in dress and adornment, and foods.

These Bible study lessons are aimed at encouraging church leaders and members to study and
proclaim the prophecies of the Books of Daniel and Revelation. I pray that the Bible study
presenters will study these lessons thoroughly and own them as their material before they present
them to the members.

May the Lord be with you as you put all possible effort to understand and present these prophetic
Bible study. Amen.

LESSON ONE

THE IMPORTANCE OF UNDERSTANDING PROPHECY (2ND Peter 1:19, 20)

Introduction: God’s people must in one way or another understand prophecies. If they do not,
they remain in darkness concerning the will and Revelation of God, and cannot conduct their
spiritual life well. So, it is important to understand the basic prophecies of the Bible. Today we
are looking at the importance of prophecies.

I. Who is a prophet?
The Hebrew word, for prophet is Nabii. It is translated as “Prophet”. It means “one who
announces.” The Greek word is “Prophetess” which means “one who speaks for or on behalf of.”
The Biblical prophets were people who spoke for God, being inspired by Him to declare His will.
That is why many prophets said “Thus says the Lord” or “The word of the Lord came to me.”
Prophecy then was a unique gift of God, an out-pouring of the divine Spirit, so that the chosen
spokesmen might warn, exhort, rebuke, encourage and declare God’s will in the events and
activities of the nations and in particular in the acts of his chosen people, Israel.

The principle (Main, Chief) function of a prophet was to describe events, past, present or future,
which were hidden from the ordinary man. At earlier stages of the formation of Israel as a nation,
a Prophet was called a Seer, (1 Samuel 9:8-9). The Old Testament records sixteen prophets,
beginning from Isaiah to Malachi.

II. The work of the Old Testament prophet

What was the main work of the prophets of the Old Testament times? Their work can be
summarized as follows:

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 16
i. To warn or rebuke God’s people (as a nation and individual) when they went wrong.
Examples:
a) Samuel rebuked King Saul when he disobeyed God (1 Samuel 15:22-23).
b) Prophet Nathan rebuked David for his immoral behavior (2 Samuel 12:1-12)
c) Jeremiah warned the nation of Israel on the consequences of their sinful
behavior (Jeremiah 7:5-10)
ii. To foretell what will happen in future e.g.
a) The coming of Jesus (Isaiah 11:1-9, Micah 5:2)
b) The order of nations to rule the world (Daniel 2 and 7)
c) The creation of New heavens and the New Earth (Isaiah 65:17)
III. The important of prophecy to God’s people
i. It helps people to have control in terms of their spiritual and daily lives “where there is
no revelation, people are uncontrolled” (Proverbs 29:18)
ii. It informs God’s people of what He is about to do” “Surely the Sovereign Lord does
nothing without revealing His plans to His servants the prophets” (Amos 3:7)
iii. It acts as a light (Spiritual light) shinning in a dark place (spiritual darkness) until Christ
the Morning star rises in the hearts of men, (2 Peter 1:19).
IV. Confusion in Christianity today
Christianity is in a terrible confusion today, both the church leaders and the followers do not
understand what they believe and do. Why is this? Because the prophecies of the Bible; both
in the Old and the New Testament respectively have been ignored or totally rejected. God’s
word has been cast aside and our emotions, feelings and ideas have taken precedence. This is
why we have many Christian sects, denominations, ministries and cults. Let us come back to
the Biblical prophecy.
Conclusion: The SDA Church Pastors, Elders and indeed every member should go back to
study the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation for they reveal where we came from, where we
are now and where we are going.

LESSON TWO

UNDERSTANDING DANIEL CHAPTER TWO

Introduction: God’s word will never fail for, the Bible say “So shall my word that goes forth
from my mouth, it shall not return to me empty….” Isaiah 55:11. God through His servant,
Jeremiah said to Israelites. “The whole land shall become a ruin and a waste and these nations
shall serve the King of Babylon for Seventy years” Jeremiah 25:11. Babylon invaded
Jerusalem and took Israelites captives to Babylon for Seventy year (Daniel 1:1-2). Among
those taken to Babylon from Israel were young men, named Daniel, Shadrack, Meshack and
Abednego (Vs. 7). While in Babylon, the young men continued to be true to their Jewish faith
even though circumstances were not easy (Daniel 1:8). God gave them favors in health and
learning (Vs 15, 17). It is while in Babylon that Daniel interpreted the King’s funny dream
about the future kingdom.

I. The King’s funny dream

King Nebuchadnezzar was a mighty ruler. God had given him authority over all the then
known nations on the earth (Daniel 2:37). One day as he lay on bed he began thinking of what
would happen to his kingdom when he died. God in heaven chose to reveal to the King what
would happen using a dream (Vs 29). So the King had a dream (Daniel 2:1). It seems that
the man dreamed several times the same dream for the Bible says, “Nebuchadnezzar had
dreams” but (Vs 3) shows that it was one dream.

The Kings Problem: The dream troubled the King, His sleep left him. But it seems that he
also forgot what the dream was, or that he kept it for himself to test the wise men.

The Problems of his People: All the magicians and sorcerers and Chaldeans were called to tell
the king his dream and its interpretations, but none of them could interpret the dream because
they did not know it. Only when they knew the dream, then they could look for any
interpretation. But God hid it.

God Revealed it to Daniel: The king decided that all those people should be killed because
they did not tell the king his dream and its interpretation. When the matter of the dream and
the King’s plan to kill the magicians reached Daniel he went and told his three friends to pray
for the matter (Vs. 18). The God of heaven revealed the secret to Daniel (Vs 19).

Daniel reveals the matter to the King: Daniel went to the King, and firstly he narrated to the
ruler about his dream (Vs 31-35). Secondly, he interpreted the dream (Vs36-45).

I. The meaning of the Dream
In this dream, God outlined the course of the world, history, to answer Nebuchadnezzar’s
question as to what was going to happen when he died. God revealed all earthly power to rule
this world until Christ’s Kingdom comes here on earth. This is the order of the earthly
Kingdoms.

a) Babylonian Kingdom – The head of gold – This ruled from 605 BC – 538 BC
b) Medes and Persians – Arms and Chest – ruled from 538 BC – 331 BC
c) The Greeks – Thigh of Bronze – ruled from 331 BC – 168 BC
d) Roman Empire – Feet of Iron – ruled from 168 BC – 476 AD
Then the empire broke into ten parts; ten toes: These are the ten Kingdoms that came from
the Western Roman Empire. Today we know them as countries in Europe e.g. (German,
France, Italy, England etc.)
e) God’s Kingdom (Vs 44), It is when the ten Kingdoms of Europe will be in power when
God will establish his Kingdom here on earth. This will be understood when we study
Daniel 7, but know that Jesus was born during the rule of the Romans, or the Roman Empire
(Luke 2:1-3).
II. The meaning of the Dream to us
From this chapter and the dream, we as Christians we can learn the following

1) The Providence of God

God provided information to Daniel about the dream and its interpretation. All who
trust and obey Him will find help in time of need (Hebrews 4:16).
2) The Sovereignty of God
This lesson and the dream teaches us that God has autonomy over all that happens to
us and the world. He changes times and seasons, He sets Kings and removes them. He
gives wisdom and knowledge, (Daniel 2:20-21). Each one of us should know that our
very life and breath is in God’s hands, (Daniel 5:23, Acts 17:28). Men and Women
should be humbled before Him. Let him have His glory.
3) Inadequacy of Idol worship
Nebuchadnezzar and his followers were pagans and terrible Idol worshippers. Could
this save them? Could this help them know the secrets of God? NO! This tells us that
only those who truly worship the God of heaven can understand heavenly secrets.
Today, we worship money, politics, fashions, hairstyle, Education, body beauty and
positions. All of these cannot help and they will surely perish.
4) God will finally conquer
Though strong and mighty Kingdoms be, though mighty and strong rulers oppress
God’s people, finally it is God who will be victorious. It is when these Kings are still
ruling, when “God of heaven will set up a Kingdom which shall never be destroyed,
nor shall its sovereignty be left to another. It shall break in pieces all these Kingdoms

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 19
and bring them to an end, and shall stand for ever (Vs 44). Christ is the King of Kings
and Lord of Lords. Revelation 19:16
Conclusion: God’s people should put their trust in Him. He controls the future, our
destiny is not in any Biblical party, not any NGO. Neither is it in any human mediator
or earthly help, our help comes from God. Let us learn to trust in Him. Read this
chapter several times and you will benefit. Amen

LESSON THREE

UNDERSTADING DANIEL 7

Introduction: When God wishes to communicate a very important issue, He repeats

the thing several times. For example; God talked to His people severally on his ten
(10) commandments, (Exodus 20:17, Deuteronomy 5:6-12, Jeremiah 7:9-10, Ezekiel
20:11-13). Christ severally warned his followers on the false prophets to come,
(Matthew 24:5, 11, 24). He informed them several times of His suffering death and
resurrection. Luke 9:22, 44, 18:31-34, Matthew 8:31, John 3:14.
In this chapter, God in another way is repeating the sequence of world rulers of Daniel
chapter two (2), but in a more vivid (clear) and at a more serious tone. He puts more
emphasis on the forth empire, which we saw “the Roman Empire.”, let us look at this;

I. Setting
In chapter two, it was the King who had a dream. In this chapter, it is Daniel the man
of God who is dreaming. In this section, God is talking to Daniel and indeed to all of
us about what had happened, was happening and would happen. The man of God in
Babylon, many years have gone by and the man is quite elderly.

II. The dream

Daniel sees the four winds of heaven shaking or troubling, the great sea (Mediterranean
Sea) and four great beasts (animals) came out of the sea, each different from the other.
The first is a Lion (Vs 4), second a bear (Vs5), third is a Leopard (Vs6) and the last one
nameless beast (Vs 7). This troubled Daniel and so he wanted to know about these
beasts (Vs 15-16).

III. Guidelines of interpreting the dream

a) The big sea (Mediterranean Sea) stands for many people; nations, tongue and
tribes (Revelation 17:1-15, Isaiah 8:7-8, 17:12-13, Ezekiel 26:3).
b) The four winds stand for war, strife, unrest, invasions of nations against each
other, (Jeremiah 4:13, 25:31-33, 51:1,2,11, Daniel 11:40).
c) The beasts are: Nations, Kingdoms, Political Powers (Daniel 7:3, 17, 23,
Jeremiah 4:7, 50:17, 43-44).

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 20
d) Heads – Kingdoms, Divisions of Kingdoms, power, authority (Daniel 7:7, 24,
8:3,20).
e) Wings, swiftness of movement, extent of conquest or flight (Daniel 7:4,6,
Ezekiel 17:3,12, Habakkuk 1:6-8, Deuteronomy 28:49, Revelation 12:14).
IV. The Beasts interpreted
Having gotten some interpretation, guidelines from the Bible, we now proceed.
Who are these beasts?

a) Lion – The Lion is the Kingdom of Babylon; many verses call the
Babylonians and Nebuchadnezzar Lion, (Jeremiah 4:7, 50:43, 44). The
Lion here is the same as the head of gold in Daniel 2
b) The Bear – The bear is the Medes and Persians as in Daniel 2
c) The Leopard: This is Greek empire- the thighs of the image of Daniel 2
d) The terrible beast is the empire of Rome, it corresponds to their Iron feet
of Daniel 2
e) The ten horns in this beast is the ten Kingdom that broke from Rome. They
correspond to the ten toes of the feet of Daniel 2.
f) The little horn of the beast is the beginning of Papacy (the rule of popes)
in the church. This will continue till Christ comes for the beast was cast
into the fire, (Daniel 7:11).
V. Effects of Rome rule to the Church
According to Daniel 7:25, the Papacy or the Roman rule into the church did
three things:
a) Spoke words against God, they claimed to be Holy (Holy Father) and
claimed to have power to forgive sins. According to Luke 5:20, only
God has power to forgive sins. Any human being who claims to do that
is equals to insulting God. The title given to the Pope, “holy father” is
reserved to and for God only. Any human being taking this title is equals
to blasphemy or making himself to be equal with God. See Mathew
19:17, Mark 10:18, Luke 18:19. Jesus addressed His Heavenly Father
as “Holy Father” John 17:11. Calling or addressing a human being as
“his holiness, or holy father” is a terrible blasphemy.
b) They persecuted the saints of the Most high, the Papacy and the Roman
Catholicism killed over 50 million Saints during what we call the Dark
Ages. Even their book testify of this.
c) It is they who changed God’s commandments, changed true water
Baptism they changed the second commandment that forbids God’s
people making or worshipping images and idols. They changed Sabbath
to Sunday. The Roman Catholic catechism openly accepts that Sunday
is their day and not found in the Bible. It is this same church that
changed the Biblical way of baptism by immersion and begun
sprinkling. This is the same power that changed Biblical way of

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 21
counting hours (from sunset to sunset) to midnight, a method used by
all nations and peoples.
d) According to Daniel 7:25 this little horn [or the rule of papacy in the
church] was to be in power for three and half years, or a time, two times
and half times. Three and half years in the Biblical counting is 1260
days [or years] for one month is 30 days. This period is also called 42
months. Please read these verses: Revelation 12:14, 13:5. According to
church history, these days begun in 538, when the bishop of Rome was
given authority by the Emperor Justine to rule both the church and the
state, through what is known as the Justinian decree. The papacy power
was reduced in 1798 when pope was captured by General Barthier
during the French Revolution and taken to prison where he died.
Conclusion: This prophecy is correct and sure. All God’s people should understand where
Sunday keeping came from, why young children are baptized and the source of other non-Biblical
doctrines, let us be watchful. (As the Bible study teacher, make this to be very plain and clear but
very notable).

LESSON FOUR

UNDERSTANDING Daniel 8:1-12

Introduction

Two years had already gone after the Vision of Daniel Seven. Belshazzar was still ruling the
Babylonian Empire. The Lord God was revealing to Daniel the same truth He had shown in Daniel
2 and 7. It had taken almost 50 years since the vision of Daniel two. In Daniel 7, the Prophet was
shown three common wild beasts and a very unfamiliar one, not found anywhere under the sun.
But in Daniel 8, the prophet is shown two domesticated animals, a goat and a sheep. It is also
important to know that these are animal which were mostly offered as sacrifices in the earthly
sanctuary by the Israelites from the beginning of sin to when Christ came here on earth, [He came
as “lamb of God” (John 1:29)]. Let us look at the vision here.

I. The two animals

Daniel saw two animals fighting for power:

a) Ram 3- 4
b) He goat 5
c) The Battle between the two 5- 8
II. The meaning of the two animals
a) The Ram – The Kingdom of Media and Persia – This is the arms of silver in Daniel 2:32,
39 and the Bear in Daniel 7:5. The two horns are the leaders of the Empire, Cyrus and
Darius.
b) The he goat is the Kingdom of Greece; the long horn is their first King Alexander the
Great (Vs 21). The broken horn is the death of Alexander the Great and the four horns

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 22
represent the four army generals who took over from Alexander the great when he died. In
Daniel 2, the same power is represented by the belly and thighs of bronze of the big image
(Vs 32, 39). In Daniel 7: 6, it is the Leopard with four heads and four wings.
III. The rise of a powerful Kingdom;
Daniel 8:9, talks of a horn coming out of one of the four winds of heaven (verse 8).
This horn grows very fast even to the beautiful land. But then according to (verse 10),
it grew up to the host of heaven and according to (verse 11, it even magnified itself to
be equal with the commander of the host, and it removed the regular sacrifice from
Him (the commander of heaven) and the place of His sanctuary was thrown down.

Who is this horn?

This horn is the power that defected from the Greek empire. This was ROME, the Roman
Empire. This is the same power illustrated in (Daniel 2:40 and Daniel 7:7-8, 19-25).
Look at how it is described in the three chapters:

Daniel 2:40, “then there will be a for the Kingdom as strong as iron, in as much as iron
crushes and shutters all things, so like iron and breaks in pieces, it will crush and break all
these in pieces”.
Daniel 7:7, “after this, I kept looking in the right vision and behold a forth beast, dreadful
and tarrying and extremely strong”.
Daniel 8:9, “small horn which grew exceedingly great, toward South, toward East and
towards the beautiful land. It caused some of the host and some stars to fall to the earth
and if trampled them down.”

IV. The two phases of this horn; this horn in the book of Daniel eight stands for the power
of Rome in its two phases. First, the Pagan Rome means the Empire of Rome which
had nothing to do with religious matters. It was just a Pagan Power, for example its
leaders were:
 Julius Ceaser
 Augusts Ceaser
 Caligula Ceaser
 Claudius Ceaser
 Nero Ceaser
These political Roman rulers continued to rule without interference with religious matters. But, in
538, the Emperor Justin by the decree called Justinian transferred his political power to the
religious leaders (Bishop of Rome) and he (the Bishop) became both the political and religious
ruler. It is after this time when the Church of Rome took over all religious matter and mixed it
with politics.

Look at what he does in Daniel 7: 24 – 25 and described as a little horn.

1. Speaks against God the Most High by magnifying or exalting himself as God – (Pope)

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 23
2. Wearing the saints of the Most High persecuting the saints and killing millions
3. Attempting to change times and the law. Rome changed many things. Their days begin at
Midnight instead of sunset. They changed Sabbath to Sunday and changed the second
commandment. In Daniel 8:9-12, the horn does the same thing
a) Made some starts (Christians, saints to fall – persecution)
b) Magnifying himself against the commander of the heavenly host Christ (this equal to
blasphemy).

V. The worst activity of the horn

Daniel 8:11-12 tell us what this religion – political horn was to do

a) Remove the regular sacrifice from Christ (the prince of Heaven) and
b) The place of this sanctuary was thrown down
c) Casting down the place of the sanctuary, the means of forgiveness of sins. You can
understand why the Lord used sacrificial animals in this vision. The little horn (Daniel 7 &
8) that is the Papacy or the rule of popes in the Church prevented people from going to
Christ for confessions of sins and institutes a mass service as an offering to take the sins of
the sinners.
Conclusion: As God’s children, we must look at Christ alone for the forgiveness of our sins.
There is no another name or means, no human mediator. No human priesthood of Christ alone,
(Act 9:12, 1Timothy 2:5, Hebrew 7:25-26).

LESSON FIVE

UNDERSTANDING REVELATION 12

Introduction: We continue with our studies on understanding prophecies. As we have already

seen, many Christian denominations have totally forgotten or terribly misunderstood the Biblical
prophecy. As a result, there is a lot of confusion and heresies in Christianity. We have already
looked at the importance of understanding prophecy, Daniel chapters two and seven and eight. We
now look at Revelation 12. The title of this study is “The mark of the True church”.

I. Setting (Background)
The book of Revelation is written by John the apostle. He wrote it while at the Island of Patmos,
where he was cast or exiled by the emperor Domitian “on account of the word of God and the
Testimony of Jesus (Revelation 1:9). There Jesus appears to him as walking in the middle of the
seven churches (Lampstands) (Vs 12-16, 20). Jesus told John to “write what you see, what is and
what is to take place hereafter (Vs 19). So the whole book of Revelation is just a record of what
Jesus revealed to John the Apostle. We are looking at what is revealed in Chapter twelve.

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 24
II. The Vision
John sees the following

a) An expectant woman clothed in sun, stepping on the moon and having a crown of twelve
stars on her head (verse 1).
b) Red dragon with seven heads and ten horns, seven crowns upon his head waiting for the
woman to bear the baby so that he can eat him (verse 3-4).
c) The child is born, but taken to heaven (verse 5).
d) The woman runs into the desert to escape the dragon (verse 6).
e) A war a rose in heaven between Michael and Satan. Satan and his followers were defeated
and cast into the earth.
f) The devil followed the woman’s children (those who keep God’s commandments) to kill
them.
III. The meaning of the Vision
Here John is given a view of the church of God, from the time when Satan rebelled in
heaven to the future (after his days, I mean John’s time)

a) In the Bible the woman represents God’s people the true church (Jeremiah 6:2, 2
Corinthians, 11:2, Revelation 19:7-8, 21:1-4.
b) She was clothed with the sun, the picture here is a church that accepts the righteousness
of Christ. Christ is the son of righteousness, Malachi 4:2, for He is our righteousness,
Romans 10:4, 1Corn 1:30, Philippians 3:9.
c) The moon under her feet is understood to mean God’s written word, which reflects
light from Christ, as the moon does from the sun. It is the church that stands on God’s
word, both the Old and the New Testament.
d) A crown of twelve stars, this stands for twelve tribes of Israel and the twelve apostles
of Christ. It talks of a church built on God’s truth as revealed, first to Israel and then
to the New Testament leaders, the apostles of Christ (Ephesians 2:20).
e) The boy child, this is Jesus Christ, The expectant woman portrays the Old Testament
expectations of the messiah (the boy child) who would save the nation, (Luke 24:21,
Acts 26:20). It is Jesus who was born as helpless baby in Bethlehem, and was hated
and ferociously attacked by the devil, through Romans. Later, He was taken to heaven
and shall come to rule the nations with a rod of iron.
f) The Red Dragon, this is the Devil (Vs9), the devil used the Roman Empire to hate and
attack Christ. Jesus was born when Augustus Caesar, the emperor, was in power, (Luke
2:1, 3). It is Herold (a Roman governor) who planned to kill Jesus. When he failed,
he killed many innocent children, (Matthew 2:16:18).
g) The Woman fled into the Wilderness. This is when the church was being persecuted
by the Roman Catholic Church, (The little horn of Daniel 7:25). She ran to the deep
Alpine Valleys of Central Europe for one thousand six hundred years. This is what is
called dark ages.

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 25
h) The dragon went to make war with the remnant of the church (Vs17). The devil using
the Roman Catholic Church continued to fight God’s people who keep God’s
commandments and does so up today.
IV. The marks of the True Church
From this chapter we can identify the true church by the following marks.
a) It believes in Jesus Christ as the only way to salvation (clothes herself with the
sun)
b) Accepts the totality of the scriptures, both the Old and the New Testament
(stepping, on the moon).
c) It shares the gospel of Christ with the world (has the testimony of Jesus Christ
(Vs 17).
d) It keeps God’s Ten commandments, the fourth on Sabbath included (Vs 17)
e) It accepts the teaching of the apostles as authoritative and binding (twelve stars
on the woman’s head)
f) Believes in the death of Christ (blood of Jesus as the only means of overcoming
the devil (Vs 11)
CONCLUSION. The lesson presenter should be very plain, Biblical and in simple terms, to be
understood by every member in the church at this time. Other funny interpretations of the chapter
should be avoided so that the listeners will not be confused.

LESSON SIX

UNDERSTANDING REVELATION 13

When the Church opposes God

Introduction: Some portions in the Bible are very difficult to understand. And indeed the books
of Daniel and Revelation are so difficult to understand that many Christian denominations have all
together abandoned reading or even quoting them. In particular, Revelation 13 is one of the most
difficult passages. But remember, “Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy and
blessed are those who hear and take to heart what is written in it because the time is near”
(Revelation 1:13). God could not have given us difficult things which we cannot understand. So
let us prayerfully study this chapter.

I. Setting.
The true Church is being persecuted by both the Pagan and religious Romans. The devil is really
against the Church of God. Because she could not stay in peace, the church had to go into the bush
– wilderness and forests to hide. The devil continued persecuting the remnant (left – over) of the
church who keep the commandments of God. When this dragon found that it was not completely
destroying the church as its intentions were he [the devil] planned for something worse against the
church of God in Europe (those days). So he waits for another opportunity to eliminate the
believers. Chapter 13 verse one says, “And the dragon stood on the shore of the sea.” Some Bible
versions like the KJV say, “I stood at the seashore. But most other versions say, “And he stood at

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 26
the seashore”. It is the dragon, the devil, who after the woman (the church) had ran into the
wilderness went at the seashore to wait for any opportunity to attack the church. It is as if Satan
knew that something useful to him in his plan to destroy the church would come from the sea or
ocean. Remember also what the sea or water is in prophecy (People, multitudes, nations,
languages), (Revelation 17:15). So the devil is looking at the masses of people in Europe to see
how he would use them to persecute the Church. What does he see?

II. The First Beast

As John saw the devil looking at multitudes of people, he at the same time saw a beast coming out
of the sea. How was the Beast?

a) It had seven heads and ten horns, with crowns on his horns, each head had insulter names
to God (verse 1, 5).
b) It looked like a leopard (body) and its feet like bear, its head is like a lion and (Vs 2).
c) The dragon (the devil) who was already waiting at the seashore, gave the beast power and
his throne and great authority.
d) The whole world followed the beast due to the power given to her by the devil (Vs 4).
e) The Beast was given power to fight God’s saints (verse 7).
f) He had power over the whole world for 42 months. (Verses 5).

III. Who the Beast is

This beast is the same as the little horn of Daniel 7:25 because of the following reasons;

a) It has blasphemous names – insulting God (Daniel 2:25, Revelation 13:3, 5)

b) It is persecuting God’s people (Daniel 7:25, Revelation 13:3)
c) It operates for the same period (Daniel 7:25, (3 1/12 times is equals to 42 months) this is
the same period in (Revelation 12:6), (1260 days).
d) In fact, it is the same little horn of (Daniel 8:9-12)
The beast therefore starts for Apostle Christian Church, which arose from the Roman Empire.
When the Pagan Roman Empire fell, the system of Papacy came to power. This system did all the
points above. It claimed to be God. It persecuted God’s people and operated from 538 AD to
1789 AD (3 1/12 times 42 months, 1260 days. This prophecy and interpretation is true. Many
protestant churches accept that this beast represents the rule of popes or papal system as practiced
in the Roman Catholic Church.

IV. The Second Beast

The Beast is described as follows:

a) It comes out of the earth

b) It has two horn like a lamb
c) It exercises the authority of the first Beast
d) It performed miracles

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 27
e) It forces people to make an image in the honor of the first Beast
f) It forces people, small and great to worship the first Beast

V. Who is the Beast?

According to many Christian commentators this beast represents the United State of America, and
mostly as it involves itself in religious matters. When Christians were persecuted in Europe, they
ran to America.

The Nation was not very populated. It was just beginning to gain independence and this is why
the beast does not come from water (many people) but grass, dry land (a land with few people)

a) The two horns talk of freedom of worship and constitutional rights in America.
b) The beast spoke like a dragon that is the devil– this means uttering statements that oppose
God as the first beast did. It is the protestant world that strongly opposes the Seventh day
Sabbath advocating for the holiness of Sunday, calling it the Lord’s day.
c) It exercises the authority of the first beast, the protestant faith in America will campaign
for Catholicism e.g. Sunday keeping, state of the dead, child baptism etc.
d) Making the image of the first beast, this is understood to mean a Union of Churches that
will try to bring ecumenism. This Union of Churches will join the state of American to
persecute Christians, and more so the Sabbath keepers.
The uniting factor will be Sunday worship which really is a child of Catholicism (first Beast).
Those who will not accept this Sunday Law will be persecuted and killed.

Conclusion: We need to study more of these prophecies, we need to learn more of what these
two beasts mean to Christianity. Let each one of us get time to dig deep in the wells of Christ (the
Bible) so that we shall not make mistakes in our own Christian service. The presenter of this lesson
should study it clearly and in forty minutes be able to deliver a very clear materials to the church

LESSON SEVEN

UNDERSTANDING REVELATION 17 (Come out of her)

Introduction: This is a fascinating chapter in the Bible. God is teaching us the same truth
severally but in different way and methods. In this chapter we are looking at marks of a fallen
church, a church operates on Biblical principles and joined the world in all senses.

I. The Vision
John was in Patmos. He revealed many fantastic things which had already occurred. Things that
were happening at the time and in future. Some of which up-to us today have not yet taken place.
What did the man of God see?

a) A great prostitute sitting on many waters by whom the inhabitants of the earth have
committed adultery and became intoxicated with the wine of her adultery (Vs 1-2).

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 28
b) The woman was sitting on a scarlet beast, which was full of blasphemous names and had
seven heads and ten horns, verse 3.
c) The woman had adorned herself with glittering gold, precious stones and pearls (Vs 4).
d) The woman has a secret name – “Babylon the great” the mother of all prostitutes and the
abomination of the earth (Vs 5).
e) The woman was drunk with the blood of the saints (Vs 6).
II. The meaning of the Vision
God in His Mercy has shown His church severally the dangers that will come to her especially
when she forgets His Word. This woman is the same power of Daniel 7:25, 8:11-12, Revelation
13:1-10 because of the following reason.

a) They all insult God, (blaspheme His Holy Name and Place), (Daniel 7:25, 8:11, Rev.
131: 5, 17:3)
b) They all persecute the saints of the Most High God (Daniel 7:25, 8:12, Revelation 13:7,
17:6).
c) All of them are given a long time to be in power – the same period (Daniel 7:25,
Revelation 12:6, 13:5, 17:2)
This vision therefore is about a spiritually fallen church. It is a church that has lost here spirituality
because of the following reasons:

a) She is called a prostitute. A physical prostitute has many sex partners, not related or
associated to each other, basically for money. The church here has spiritually fallen,
mixing spiritual and worldly things together – things which are not related. God hates that.
“They worshipped the Lord but they also served their own gods in accordance with the
customs of the nations from which they had been brought” (2 Kings 17:23), this is a
spiritual adultery.
b) She is sitting on many waters (verse 1). Water in prophecy represents many peoples,
multitudes, languages etc. (Revelation 17:15). This is a church followed by the majority of
people, multitudes and multitudes – majority followers do not mean truthfulness (Matthew
7:13-14).
c) She is also sitting on a scarlet Beast (Vs 3). Beast are Kings, Kingdoms, (Daniel 7:17),
this is a church that sits on political powers, protected by earthly governments, or rather
controlling the civil politics of the land.
d) The beast she sits on is full of blasphemous names, a Church that does not honor God; it
also assumes titles and prerogatives that belongs to God alone.
e) She is terribly adorned. This is a church that does not care about her physical appearance.
Members can dress in any way and deck themselves with all ornaments even those rejected
by God. She is a worldly church.
f) She is drunk with the blood of the saints. Here is a persecuting church. It is a church
that kills God’s people, of course this talks of the Dark Ages when the Roman Catholicism
persecuted and killed millions of people. But even today, God’s church can persecute her
members, not necessarily by killing but by other mistreatments.

God’s call to his people.

Having presented all this truth about the fallen church, the Lord God pleads with His people to
come out of that type of church. In other words, the Lord is calling his people who are in fallen
churches to come out of them and to follow the true church. So the Bible says, “Come out of
her my people lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her plagues.” Revelation18:4. So
the Lord is calling all of us to come out of Catholicism for if we shall remain there, we shall
be punished and in fact be destroyed with her.

Conclusion: God’s people should be fully aware of the falsehood advocated and proclaimed by
so many so called “Christian denominations” We should use the prophecies to tell us where we
are and where we are going. May the Lord bless us.

MAIN SERMONS

DAY ONE – WHAT IS REVIVAL AND REFORMATION?

Our God is so gracious to us in all ways, He has given us life to this day, as we have come from
the period of washing our hands everywhere and anywhere to get rid of dirt. We now need to
wash our hearts to get rid of sin.

For us to handle the theme of our camp meetings of 2020, we need to understand the meaning of
Revival and Reformation.

Revival is an improvement in the condition, strength or fortunes of someone or something.

 It is a restoration to life or consciousness

 To become active
 A reawakening of religious fervor

Reformation: - is the action or process of reforming an institution or practice (change).

Fellow believers there has been laxity, carelessness in the way we handle spiritual matters. There
is no strength. It is like the spirit is leaving us slowly by slowly. There is need to strengthen,
restore, awaken and change our practices and do that which is God’s will.

“A revival of true Godliness among us is the greatest and most urgent of all our needs. To seek
this should be our first work. (1SM 121).

A revival and reformation must take place under the ministration of the Holy Spirit. Revival and
Reformation are two different things. We need to be clear. Revival signifies a renewal of spiritual
life, a quickening of the powers of mind and heart, a resurrection from the spiritual death.
Reformation signifies a reorganization, a change of ideas and theories, habits and practices.
Reformation will not bring forth the good fruit of righteousness unless it is connected with the
revival spirit. Revival and Reformation are to do their appointed work, and in doing this work,
they must blend. This is what happened in the 16th century, when Martin Luther brought about
radical reforms and there was a revival, people came to understand the Bible better as they
protested and that gave birth to Protestants. It took Martin Luther time to study the Word of God.

We need to understand that this cannot be done with our strength, but by the power of the Holy
Spirit. - Zech 4:6.

In humility, we need to confess, repent and earnestly pray that the Lord may indeed do a miracle
in our lives and change us completely. As Christians of the remnant Church, we need to go back
to the basics:

 Study, understand and follow the Word of God – 2Tim. 3:16-17.

 Pray without ceasing – 1Thess. 5:17.
 Live reflecting what we have learned – James 2:22.
 Share the good news to the perishing world – Rev. 14:6-12.
 Be faithful in returning of Tithes and offerings – Mal. 3:8-10.
 Keep the Sabbath day of the Lord Holy – Exodus 20:8-11.
 Emulate the example of Jesus Christ – Philippians 2:5-8.

The revival and reformation that God is calling His Church experience is not imposed by the
Church, but that which is imposed by the Holy Spirit. God is calling us back to following the
Word, “Thus says the Lord”.

We need to plead for the guidance of the Holy Spirit, so that we can rend our hearts and have an
influence to the perishing world.

We have gone through an interesting period of Coronavirus- Covid19, with a lot of fear, but yet
something much more than this pandemic need to make us panic and fear more, that is sin which
is in our lives. Let us live a life that will please God. Let us ask the Lord to revive us and grant us
salvation – Psalm 86:6-7. Determine by God’s Grace to make a change for good our life for the
glory of God. The world is coming to an end.

DAY 2 - THE BASIS OF SPIRITUAL REVIVAL IN ADVENTIST CHURCH

Introduction
All spiritual revival is the result of decline in spirituality among God’s people. In our time we need
an urgent revival and reformation, more especially the Laodicean church, which has the last
message to preach to the whole world. REVELATION 14:6-12. The church is apparently Luke
warm Rev. 3:14-15 this state is to be explained and given a spiritual solution. The solution is the
need of revival and reformation. Christ is the answer to this problem (REV 3: 18, 20-21).

a) Lukewarm condition explained – neither hot nor cold

i) Hot works” in the Bible is a spiritual condition which is likened with works of the
spirit Galatians 5:22, works of light Matt 5:14.
ii) Cold works is likened with works of the flesh, Gal. 5:19-21, or works of Darkness
John 3:19, Rom 13:12, 1cor. 4:6
iii) Lukewarm works are likened with hypocrisy, Isa. 9:17, 29:13, Jer 12:2, Matt 15:7-
19.
b) The signs of Lukewarm church are as follows:

It is a church which is self-satisfied: “I am rich, I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing”.

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 32
But Christ say, “You are wretched, pitiful, poor, kind and naked” (Revelation 3:17)
This lukewarm condition is apparent spiritual condition in the Adventist church: (while confessing
rich…but we are poor)

 Church buildings done as show “off” our great church” self-glorification.

 The number of those who return tithes and offerings is less than 30%
 Most Adventist do not take their children to Adventist schools which are our present school
of “prophets”.

In social life, where we are expected to experience love and unity but we are experiencing disunity
between young old, rich and poor male and female, clannism, tribalism, racialism, spiritual, spirit
of competition in all levels e.g. during church music, wrangles in church leadership and many
more – These and many others reveals that Adventist church need an urgent revival and
reformation in the church. Read more in 1st selected message by E G White pages 121-122.

DAY 3 - THE WORD OF GOD AND THE REVIVAL AND REFORMATION

Introduction

There is need for revival and reformation in these last days of the earth’s history before we see our
Savior comes back. This is further stated by Ellen White, “A revival of true godliness among us is
the greatest and most urgent of all our needs. To seek this should be our first work (1 SM 121).
Revival and reformation express two different aspects of godliness. Revival signifies a renewal of
spiritual life, a quickening of the powers of mind and heart, a resurrection from the spiritual death.
Reformation on the other hand signifies a reorganization, a change in ideas and theories, habits
and practices.

This definition is expressed well in Romans 13:11-14, “And do this knowing the time, that now it
is time to awake out of sleep (revival); for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.
The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness and let put
on the armor of light (reformation). Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and
drunkenness, not in lewdness and in lust, nor in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ
and make no provision of the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.” The Bible plays a vital role in this revival
and reformation

The Place of the Bible

The Bible itself testifies to what is able to do to the reader.

First, it penetrates to the center of a human being, “For the word of God is living and powerful and
sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints
and marrow, and is a discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 33
Second, it works as an agent of sanctification because it points out sin and also points the sinner
to the savior who sanctifies, “Sanctify them by Your Truth: Your word is truth” John 17:17.

The Bible helps in the growth of Christian graces, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen” (2 Peter 3:18).
Peter further shows how this growth happens, “Therefore, laying aside all malice, evil speaking,
as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the Word that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have
tasted that the Lord is gracious” (1 Peter 2:1-3; 2 see also 2 Peter 1:1-11).

The main theme of the entire Bible is Jesus Christ and the salvation of people, “You search the
scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of me” (Jn.
5:39 see also Lk. 24:27, 44-46).

The Bible teaches that it is Jesus’ life in a believer that revives the dead spirituality in an individual,
“And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins” (Eph. 2:1-10). Paul further shows
how Christ does this from inside out, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live,
but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God,
who loved me and gave Himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness
comes through the law, then Christ died in vain” (Gal. 2:20).

Examples of the Role of the Bible in Revival and Reformation

History is full of examples of how God’s people lost their grip on God and plunged into darkness
and how the Bible played a role in a return to God. This is what the Bible calls revival and
reformation. I will give a few examples which can be used to support this claim. You don’t have
to use all examples but a few to illustrate this teachings

Asa’s time (2 Chron. 15).

Ignoring the word of God plunged Israel into a bad apostasy “For a long time Israel has been
without the true God, without a teaching priest, and without law” (2 Chron. 15:3 a). Then Oded
the prophet came and introduced the law of God (the Bible) to king Asa (2 Chron. 15:1-7). The
result was a resounding revival and reformation (15:8-19).

Jehoshaphat’s Time (2 Chron. 17)

Israel went back to apostasy again. When Jehoshaphat became King, God used him to bring revival
and reformation. The Bible was central here again, “So they taught in Judah, and had the Book of
the Law (the Bible in modern language) of the Lord with them; they went throughout all the cities
of Judah and taught the people” (2 Chron. 17:9). This brought a big revival and reformation (17:10-
12)

Josiah’s Time (2 Chron. 34)

There was a long period of apostasy recorded in the history of Israel between the reign of Hezekiah
and Josiah. Then another very well-known revival took place in Israel. The Bible was yet again a
key element in this revival, “Then Hilkiah answered to Shaphan the scribe and said ‘I have found
the Book of the Law in the house of the Lord’. And Hilkiah gave the Book to Shaphan” (2 Chron.
34:15). This book was read to King Josiah and started the greatest revival recorded in the Old
Testament history (34:16-35:19)

John the Baptist’s Time (Matt. 3:1-17)

He utilized the prophet Isaiah’s writings to bring a message of repentance which shook the world
in the first century and prepared for Christ’s first coming, “In those days John the Baptist came
preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and said Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand” (Matt.
3:1, 2). What followed was a revival in all areas of life -

Jesus’ Time (The Gospels)

Jesus’ sermons and discourses (teachings) were based on as it is written and Jesus always taught
from the scriptures He had inspired the prophets and other Old Testament writers to record down.
This drew many crowds and brought a revival and reformation ever seen in history (Matt. 9:35-
38; John 7:32-52)

Martin Luther’s Time

The return to the scriptures under the slogan, Sola Scriptura (The Bible and the Bible alone as the
only rule of faith and practice) brought about unparalleled reformation in recent history. It is
popularly known as the Protestant Reformation. It started in 1517 by Martin Luther.

Our Time

God is planning to bring about the last and greatest revival of true godliness in these last days as
pictured in Revelation 17 using His last day church. It will be realized by an intentional return to
the Bible and the Bible alone as the only rule of faith and practice. The church will be prepared to
give the last warning (Revelation 14 & 17) to the world then Jesus will come a second time. Are
you ready to be involved in God’s business of concluding the history of the fallen world? Then
say with the Psalmist, “My soul clings to the dust; Revive me according to your Word” Ps. 119:25.
And again, “Search me, O God, and know my heart, try me, and know my anxieties; And see if
there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23, 24)

DAY 4 - THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN REVIVAL AND REFORMATION.

The Holy Spirit was present before creation and through His power everything was made in Jesus,
by God the Father. The Holy Spirit played a role both in creation and in redemption.

When Christ finished the work of redemption, and was going to heaven, He told His disciples that,
it is to your advantage that I go, as I go I will send you a comforter, the Holy Spirit. -John 16:7-
read the whole content – John 16:8-15.

The Holy Spirit will convict the world concerning Sin, and righteousness and judgement. To set
forth the truth of the gospel in such a clear light, that men are able to accept or reject it intelligently,
to convince men of the truthfulness of the Gospel. More things were to become clear after the
resurrection of Jesus Christ. He will disclose to you what is to come, meaning things of the future
concerning the return of Jesus Christ. The teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit has guided the
church since the period the Holy Spirit came.

Now then, in Revival and Reformation:

 Teaches all things and brings to remembrance – John 14:26

 Guides and leads God’s children - Rom 8:14
 Commissions and sends – Acts 13:4
 Commands men on what to do – Acts 8:29.
 Restrains man – Gen 6:3
 Intercedes and searches hearts – Rom 8:26-27
 Bears witness of Christ – John 15:26
 Sanctifies for salvation – 2 Thess. 2:13.
 Regenerates and Renews lives - John 3:5-6.
 Lives and abides with us – John 14:16-17

The Holy Spirit calls us from a lost state, to a relationship with Christ, from sin to holiness.(1John
5:4). The Holy Spirit effects revival and reformation by the fruits of the Holy Spirit (Gal. 5:22)
“Those who see Christ in His true character and receive Him into the heart have everlasting life.
It is through the Spirit that Christ dwells in us, and the spirit of God received into the heart by
faith, is the beginning of life eternal” (DA 388). The Holy Spirit poured into believers hearts,
makes them to be of “one heart and mind” (Acts 4:31-32) “Through this simple act of believing
God, the Holy Spirit has begotten a new life in your heart” (Steps to Christ pg 52).

The work of the Holy Spirit is to give us new life – Eze. 36:26-27. The Holy Spirit bestows to us
the holiness of Christ and effects growth in holiness in Christ, leading into the likeness of Christ’s
character. The Holy Spirit has a major role in the revival of the study of the word of God and
prayer and enabling us to practice what we have learned. May the Holy Spirit revive us again, so

that we may live a reformed and transformed life as we prepare for the return of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ. Be Blessed. (Ref. Bible, DA, SC).

DAY 5- EVIDENCES OF A REVIVED AND REFORMED CHURCH/ PERSON

Key Texts: 2Kings.22: 10, 11 & Joel 2: 12

2Kings.22: 10, 11. KJV And Shaphan the scribe shewed the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest
hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king. And it came to pass, when
the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.

Joel 2: 12 NIV “Even now,” declares the LORD, “return to me with all your heart, with
fasting and weeping and mourning.”

Today we will look at the evidences of a revived and reformed church / or a church member.

Definition of terms:

To “revive”—from the (Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary)—is to make something/

someone to be used or done again. To become or make someone become conscious and strong
again.
Revival —is the process of something becoming or being made fashionable again.
It is of interest to note that; the Oxford Dictionary defines “Reformation” as “the act of changing
somebody/ something.”
It also defines —“the reformation”— as “new ideas in religion in 16th century in Europe that led
to attempts to reform the Roman Catholic church and to forming of the Protestants Churches; the
period of time when these changes were taking place.

Therefore; Brethren, in a true revival and reformation there are changes that take place.
A true revived and reformed person/ church becomes spiritually strong.
Surrenders to be used by the Holy Spirit and becomes an agent of positive change.
Thus, changes the world around them.
We must allow the Bible to live in our life. That is to say—we must practice and live according to
the Scriptures.
Colossians 3: 16 (NKJV) Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and
admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your
hearts to the Lord.

And so, if there is a time for God’s people to live as per the Bible, it is now!

Remember:

"A revival of true godliness among us is the greatest and most urgent of all our needs.”

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 37
Christians, for a true revival and reformation/ transformation, must:

Search the Bible daily, know the Word, Live it, cherish it, believe it, preach it, share it and love
the Bible. It is God’s Word. Reading it will revive you.

Isaiah 55: 11 (NIV) so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me
empty but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

These things become evident in the church/person that has experienced reformation and a
revival.

1. Feeling the need of the Holy Spirit and constantly praying for His Presence. God is
willing and awaiting our petition for Holy Spirit. But are we asking for His (Holy Spirit)
presence? Luke 11: 13 NKJV If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your
children, how much more will your heavenly Father give you the Holy Spirit to those who
ask!” Acts 19: 2, 5,6. NKJV he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you
believed?” When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And
when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with
tongues and prophesied. NB: “The Holy Spirit will come to all who are begging for the
bread of life to give to their neighbors.” — ChS 252. Since this is the means by which we
are to receive power, why do we not hunger and thirst for the gift of the Spirit? Why do we
not talk of it, pray for it, and preach concerning it? The Lord is more willing to give the
Holy Spirit to those who serve Him than parents are to give good gifts to their children.
For the daily baptism of the Holy Spirit every worker should offer his petition to God.” —
AA 50.
2. Willingness to be used and guided by the Holy Spirit. Through the Holy Spirit, God
works in His people ‘to will and to do of His good pleasure. Phil.2: 13 (NJKV) for it is
God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
We must be willing and accept to be guided and controlled by the Holy Spirit. We cannot
use the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is to use us! Matt.10: 20 (NIV) for it will not be you
speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
Luke.12: 12 (NIV) for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.
3. Willingness to eliminate dissension and misunderstanding. Acts2: 1. NKJV When the
Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
“Before the Day of Pentecost they met together, and put away all differences. They were
of one accord.” —DA 827. “Let Christians put away their dissensions, and give themselves
to God for the saving of the lost. Let them in faith ask for the blessing, and it will come.”
—DA 827.
4. Total /complete surrender of self to God. When we fully surrender to Christ, a new power
takes possession of the new heart. It is supernatural work, bringing supernatural elements
into human nature. Thus, each morning, noon/ day and evening, consecrate yourself and
family to God. Surrender all your plans, to Him and give yourself as His providence
indicates.
Psalm.143: 10 (NIV) Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good
Spirit lead me on level ground. 1Peter.3: 17 (NIV) It is better if it is God’s will, to
suffer for doing good than for doing evil. (See also Matt.26: 42; Phil.2: 13)

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 38
James5: 16 NKJV confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another,
that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
5. Communion with God in fervent Prayer. 1Thess.5: 17 NKJV pray without ceasing.
1Sam.12: 23 NKJV Moreover, as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against
the LORD in ceasing to pray for you; but I will teach you the good and the right way.
Have you set a place (room) to meet Jesus in your house/ home? There is need for personal
and family prayers. Matt.6: 6 NKJV But you, when you pray, go into your room and
when you have shut you door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your
Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
“As the praying ones continued their earnest cries, at times a ray of light from Jesus came
to them, to encourage their hearts and light up their countenances. Some, I saw, did not
participate in this work of agonizing and pleading. They seemed indifferent and careless…
I saw angels of God hasten to the assistance of all who were struggling with all their power
to resist the evil angels and trying to help themselves by calling upon God with
perseverance. But His angels left those who made no effort to help themselves, and I lost
sight of them.” —EW 270.
6. Diligently works for Christ. Matt.28: 19,20 Go therefore and make disciples of all the
nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit, teaching them to observe all thing that I have commanded you; and lo, I am
with you always even to the end of age.” Amen. Are we up to the work the Lord left us
to do? Do we scatter or gather? Jesus Christ has committed each one of us trust talents.
Talents of means and influence. How are you my dear brother and sister using the talents
entrusted to you? “The work which the church has failed to do in a time of peace and
prosperity, she will have to do in a terrible crisis under most discouraging, forbidding
circumstances. The warning that worldly conformity has silenced or withheld must be
given under the fiercest opposition from enemies of the faith.” —5T 463
7. Cleansing from Sin and victory over weaknesses. Joel 2: 12 (NIV) “Even now,”
declares the LORD, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and
mourning.” The phrase “even now” is God’s appeal to us to indicate that it is not yet too
late to appeal to Him for forgiveness. This is God’s call to repentance.
But God does not want a merely outward display of penitence.
The rich or poor, free or slave, kings as to citizens shall receive victory from sin from true
repentance. Joel 2: 13 (NKJV) So rend your heart, and not your garments…
(1Sam.16: 7) “Those who receive the seal of the living God and are protected in the time
of trouble MUST reflect the image of Jesus fully.” —EW 71
The return of the Lord Jesus Christ to our world will not be long delayed, therefore, let us be
renewed and take the last warning message to the world—AMEN!

DAY 6

HINDERANCES AND REFORMATION IN THE CHURCH

Introduction:

Study chapter 27 in the Great Controversy, pp. 461-478. More than one hundred years ago, Ellen
White told us what greatest need is: “A revival of true godliness among us is the greatest and most
urgent of all our needs. To seek this should be our first work.” Selected messages (ISM 121)
In another statement Ellen White explains that revival must be accompanied by reformation: “A
revival and a reformation must take place, under the ministration of the Holy Spirit. Revival and
reformation are two different things (yet inseparably linked). Revival signifies a renewal of
spiritual life, a quickening of the powers of mind and heart, a resurrection from spiritual death.
Reformation signifies reorganization, a change in ideas and theories (way of thinking), habits and
practices (way of acting). Revival and reformation is the work of the Holy Spirit. Sin is the great
hindrance.

HINDRANCES TO REVIVAL AND REFORMATION

Key text 2 Kings 12:1-18

Background of the passage.

King Jehosphat was the King of Judah. Jehosphat’s son Jehoram married Ahab’s daughter,
Athalia. Now wicked influences of Ahab came into Judah. Ahtaliah led Judah to idolatry. After
the death of her husband Jehoran and her son, Athaliah took the throne. She killed all of her
husband Jehoram and her son, Athaliah took the throne. She killed all of her grandchildren because
of the thirst of power. One grandson, Joash saved from this massacre by her aunt and hid in the
temple. When Joah’s was 8 his uncle the high priest did a coup against Athaliah and made him
the King of Judah. Reforms of Joah as King destroyed the idles of Baal and killed its priests.
Proper worship to the Almighty God reestablished. It looked as if a revival was coming.

It looked as if it was time for a new beginning. But something went wrong and the entire process
of reformation, restoration, new beginning and revival could not be achieved.

2 Kings 12:2 2 Joash did what was right in the eyes of the Lord for all the years Jehoiada the priest
instructed him.

2 Chronicles 23:16 Jehoiada then made a covenant that he and the people and the king would be
the Lord’s people.

2 Chronicles 24:17-18. After the death of Jehoiada, the officials of Judah came and paid homage
to the king, and he listened to them. They abandoned the temple of the Lord, the God of their
fathers and worshiped Asherah poles and idols. Because of their guilt, God’s anger came upon
Judah and Jerusalem.

As long as the high priest, Jehodia was around Joash he did what was right. After the death of
Jehodia, King Joash was easily influenced by the officials of Judah and the entire country went
back to idol worship. He was easily influenced by the world.

Joash had both spiritual and nonspiritual influence upon his life. The moment his spiritual
influence ceased he slipped out of godly ways. We live in this world and we have spiritual
influence in the church. But outside there are a lot of worldly influence that we come across on a
daily basis. Never be influenced by the world. Understand the worldly influences always work
against Godly influence. Keep away from it.

Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the
renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good,
pleasing and perfect will.

2. Complacence (Compromise)

1 Kings 12:3 The high places, however, were not removed; the people continued to offer sacrifices
and burn incense there.

The high places were centers of idol worship on mountains and hilltops. Joash could have done
something about them but he just did not make an effort. He ignored the strongholds.

Stronghold meaning – A fortified city; a fortification; fortified place. Strongholds are places in our
lives where God is not supreme. Examples of stronghold: Traditions, idol worship, inappropriate
relationships, finances. Demolish long lasting evils in our past life which we may have carried
into the church and also the ones existing in our churches which hinder the working of the Holy
Spirit. God has given us the weapons for the battle (2 Corinthians 10:4) The weapons we fight
with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish
strongholds.

The church has also compromised on the sacredness of the holy things, methods of worship,
Sabbath, lifestyle etc. Isaiah 64:7

3. The lack of Preaching on the Law of God and the Ten Commandments

Many pastors and churches have neglected the Ten Commandments and the moral law of God in
their preaching and teaching. The result is little if any conviction of sin, resulting in many
emotional decisions for Christ but few real conversions. Pastors need to preach the moral law of
God again because through the law is the knowledge of sin (Romans 7:7) as it serves as a
schoolmaster that leads us to Christ (Galatians 3:24). When both society and the church have

abandoned the Ten Commandments less people will be convicted of sin of even know they need a
savior, resulting in a huge hindrance for biblical awakening and revival.

4. The lack of the fear of the Lord in our churches

Nowadays it is very common for church members to live together in sin, engage in premarital sex,
engage in drunkenness, post lewd pictures on Facebook and listen to ungodly music, steal, cheat
and all manner of sin. Even worse, there is no accountability in the church. Those who live like
this are allowed to serve as leaders. The Bible teaches us that the fear of the Lord is the beginning
of wisdom (proverbs 9:10). Proverbs describes the fear of the Lord as the hatred of sin (Proverbs
8:13). With so many Christians and leaders living continually on the edge of diving into a life of
sin, it is a huge hindrance for a real move of God because such behavior grieves rather than attracts
the Holy Spirit (read Ephesians 4:29-5:10).

5. Politics and Disunity among church Members.

Acts 21:47; 1 Corinthians 12:14; Matthew 12:25

Summary

The time has come for a thorough reformation to take place. When this reformation begins, the
spirit of prayer will actuate every believer and will banish from the church the spirit of discord and
strife. Those who have not been living in Christian fellowship will draw close to one another. One
member working in right lines will lead other members to unite with him in making intercession
for the revelation of the Holy Spirit. There will be no confusion, because all will be in harmony
with the mind of the Spirit. The barriers separating believer from believer will be broken down,
and God’s servant will speak the same things. The Lord will co-operate with His servants. All
will pray understanding the prayer that Christ taught His servants: “Thy kingdom come. Thy will
be done on earth, as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10).

The quote that best summarizes revival in the writings of Ellen White is as follows:

“A revival of true godliness among us is the greatest and most urgent of all our needs. To seek
this should be our first work. There must be earnest effort to obtain the blessings of the Lord, not
because God is not willing to bestow His blessing upon us, but because we are unprepared to
receive it. Our heavenly Father is more willing to give His Holy Spirit to them that ask Him, than
are earthly parents to give good gifts to their children. But it is our work, by confession,
humiliation, repentance, and earnest prayer, to fulfil the conditions upon which God has promised
to grant us His blessing. A revival need be expected only in answer to prayer. While the people
are so destitute of God’s Holy Spirit, they cannot appreciate the preaching of the Word; but when
the Spirit’s power touches their hearts, then the discourses given will not be without effect. Guided
by the teachings of God’s Word, with the manifestation of His Spirit, in the exercise of sound
discretion, those who attend our meetings will gain a precious experience, and returning home,
will be prepared to exert a healthful influence.” (ISM 121)

 The greatest barrier to revival is sin.
 Isaiah 64:7. We are consumed by our sins: “For you have hidden your face from us and
have consumed us because of our inequities.”
 It is the transformation of character that reveals the fruits of the Spirit in the life. Galatians
5:22-24.
 Obedience to God’s will is the evidence of all true revival. Our Lord longs for a people
whose life reflects the loveliness of His character.

DAY 7 - THE DUTIES OF A REVIVED CHURCH

We thank God for giving us the opportunity to be corporate church, and as individuals in the
Remnant Church to witness in these times of the end that are with us. When we bid each other
farewell during last year’s camp meetings we did not know what the year 2020 had in store for us
as a church, a nation, and even the world. We thought as usual that the routine shall prevail into
the coming year. Little did we know that Coronavirus pandemic would ravage the whole world
and bring such unprecedented human suffering and curtail spiritual affairs as we have known all
along.

We voted in the Union year-end executive committee that we shall have the theme of this year’s
camp meetings entitled: Revival and Reformation. My colleagues have handled various aspects of
this theme during the week and I come with the last message addressing this important theme.

During the week we learnt and even reminded ourselves of what Revival and Reformation is, why
the church needs Revival and Reformation, the problem of the Laodecian church, God's word as
the agent of Revival and Reformation, the work of the Holy Spirit in Revival and Reformation, the
evidences of a Revived and Reformed Church, the obstacles that hinder Revival and Reformation,
and now the duties of a Revived Church.

A revived church is one that has gone back to its owner and that is God. It is the church that God
calls His special one, a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God
(1 Peter 2:9). A revived church is one that has an ongoing experience in the spiritual journey of
each Christian and in the life of the church. A revived church also has a renewal of the spiritual
energies of the soul. It has to do with a new commitment to Jesus every day. It leads us to a deeper
experience in prayer, a more diligent study of God’s Word, and a life of service and witness. A
heart hungering for spiritual revival is a heart that longs for a more intimate experience with Jesus.
It isn’t satisfied with a shallow, superficial experience. It craves much more.
(https://www.revivalandreformation.org/resources/all/revival-for-what) Accessed on May 13,
2020.

The purpose of revival is to fill our hearts with such a love for Jesus that we long to share Him
with everyone possible. In genuine revival our own hearts are awakened to His goodness, His
compassion, His forgiveness and power. We are so charmed by His love and transformed by His
grace that we cannot be silent.

The purpose of revival is to draw us so close to Jesus that His love overflows from our lives to
others. Revival: For what? All true revival leads us out of a preoccupation with ourselves to lives
of witness and service. It leads us into our communities to share Jesus’ love in word and deed, to
make an everlasting difference for Christ and His kingdom.
((https://www.revivalandreformation.org/resources/all/revival-for-what) Accessed on May 13,
2020.

The duties of a revived and reformed church are the following:

God has a church in this world that He has chosen so that He could use it to share the good news
of His kingdom in this world. After the church experiences revival and reformation then the church
must fill its position in the world. The revived and reformed church needs to satisfy the hunger
and thirst of the people in the world because as Ellen White says, “Many today have a hunger for
something more than just “playing church” and going through the motions of the Christian life.
They want a genuine experience with Christ—for themselves and for the church.” (Ellen G. White,
True Revival p. 7)

The revived and reformed church needs to tell the world that it needs to experience revival which
is being born again and reformation which is living a life of obedience through the power of the
Holy Spirit, the Spirit that “Heaven is waiting to bestow.” (Ellen G. White, True Revival p. 7)

The Spirit-filled life results not only in personal victory over sin but also in a fresh desire and
ability to share the Christian life and hope with others. Filled with the power of the Holy Spirit,
God's faithful ones will proclaim the final message that will prepare a people for the Lord's return.
Satan will do everything in his power to stop it. He will try to convince us that there are shortcuts—
easier ways to have the fellowship with God that leads to an empowered Christian life. He will
introduce counterfeits for the power of the Spirit—counterfeits so deceptive that if God's people
do not maintain a deep, living relationship with Him, based on the Word of God, they will be
deceived. This book will, among other things, help the reader to distinguish between the true and
the false. (Ellen G. White, True Revival p. 8)

At the end of time, God will call His people back to the core truths. While declaring Jesus’ soon
return, the remnant will highlight God as Creator, the heavenly judgment and the danger of
spiritual compromise.
The universal church is composed of all who truly believe in Christ, but in the last days, a time of
widespread apostasy, a remnant has been called out to:

1. Keep the commandments of God and the testimony of Jesus. (Revelation 12:17)

2. This remnant announces the arrival of the judgment hour, (Revelation 14:6-7)

3. Proclaims salvation through Christ, and heralds the approach of His second advent. This
proclamation is symbolized by the three angels of Revelation 14; it coincides with the work of

judgment in heaven and results in a work of repentance and reform on earth. (Daniel 7:9-14; 11:11;
Jer. 23:3

4. Encourages its members and the community to take care of their health by eating health foods
and abstaining from all harmful foods and beverages and practicing temperance in all they do

5. Encourages its members to consider taking their children through an Adventist Philosophy of
education which aspires to develop the whole person, physically, mentally, spiritually, socially,
and emotionally. (Luke 2:52),

6. Encourages its members to study Bible prophesies especially in the books of Daniel and
Revelation so as to understand the times we are living in

7. Encourage its members to live in unity and harmony as they wait for Jesus’ Second coming

8. Encourages every believer to have a personal part in this worldwide witness. (1 Peter 2: 9-11;
Revelation 22:17)

These are just but a few of the duties of the revived and reformed church that we are a part of. My
prayer is that each member shall take it upon himself/herself to do their honest part in the
proclamation of the word of God in their places of stay and labor.

HEALTH MINISTRIES AND HIV/AIDS

ADVENTIST NUTRITION AND PREVENTION OF DISEASES

Day 1

Nutrition for His Glory

In the midst of so much confusion about what foods provide good health, people walk many miles
and spend so much money looking for the best diet which can guarantee them good health, the
Seventh-day Adventist church provides the best approach to an affordable, easily accessible and
nutritious diet of all time. The Seventh-day Adventist church embraces the Bible and the teachings
of Ellen G. White as the basis for good nutrition

Diet for a Lifetime

Question: What diet can I eat that will prevent all disease?
Answer: There really is no diet will help you do that!
If You…

 Smoke will you get lung cancer?

 Eat an unhealthy diet will you get sick?
 Consume a healthy diet will you never get sick?

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 45
What is Going On?

 Most diseases are the result of a long series of mutations in genes that are vital in supporting
the integrity of thousands of other genes.
 Disease is caused by the complex interactions of our environment, diet, physical activity,
even our thoughts and attitudes...
 Does nutrition and lifestyle really make a difference?
 Healthy choices minimize our risks
Why Emphasize Diet?

Stewardship: Managing best that which God has given us.

• Physically
• Mentally
• Spiritually
• Socially
Isaiah 7 14 “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
15 Curds and honey He shall eat, that He may know to refuse the evil and choose the good.”

The “Original” Diet

Is that diet still available, and is it good for me?

Original Diet

Genesis 1:29: Then God said, I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth
and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.”
Genesis 3:18: adds “...and you will eat the plants of the field.”
What Kinds of Food?

• Fruit
• Whole grains
• Vegetables
• Legumes
• Nuts & Seeds
These Foods Are...

Best when consumed as they come from nature: not refined, not pulled apart, or fractionated.

• Low in fat
• Low in saturated fat
• No cholesterol
• High in dietary fiber
• Low in refined sugar

• Contains rich source of vitamins and minerals
• High amounts of protective substances: phytochemicals, antioxidants, etc.
Nutrition Authorities Agree

Use plant foods as the foundation of your meals. Eating a variety of grains (especially whole-
grains), fruits and vegetables is the basis of healthy eating.

Vegetarian Diet

Advantages:

• Lower heart disease

• Lower cancer rates
• Lower diabetes
• Less obesity
• Less hypertension
• Less dementia
• Less osteoporosis
• Longer life expectancy!
Day 2

Five Dietary Patterns

1. Total vegetarian Eat meat, fish and dairy less than once monthly
2. Lacto-ovo-veg Eat meat and/or fish less than once monthly, and dairy more than once
monthly
3. Pesco-veg Eat meat less than once monthly and fish at least once monthly,
4. Semi-vegetarian Eat meat at least once monthly but less than once weekly
5. Non-vegetarian No specific dietary restrictions as to frequencies of meat, fish and dairy
How do we define plant based diets?

"Plant-based diets, defined as diets that include generous amounts of plant foods and limited
amounts of animal foods"

“... a plant-based diet, which we define as a regimen that encourages whole, plant-based foods and
discourages meats, dairy products, and eggs as well as all refined and processed foods.”

“A key distinction is that although most of these diets are defined by what they exclude; the plant-
based diet is defined by what it includes.

“A plant-based diet is not necessarily a vegetarian diet. Many people on plant based diets continue
to use meat products and/or fish but in smaller quantities.”

Vegans abstain from eating any animal products… But it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re eating
lots of whole foods plant-based meals. Vegans could get through life eating processed foods and

snubbing their veggies just like anyone else. Think potato chips, (vegan-friendly) gummy candy,
and even cookies.

“A whole foods plant-based diet, on the other hand, emphasizes eating whole fruits and vegetables,
consuming lots of whole grains, and staying away from (or at least minimizing) the intake of
animal products and processed foods for health reasons. That means that even vegan desserts made
with refined sugar or bleached flour are out.”

Unhealthful Total Vegetarian Diets

Not all plant foods are necessarily beneficial for health.

• Laden with refined grains like white bread and white rice
• Use of sugar-sweetened beverages and juices
• Meals filled with cookies and crackers
• Chips
• Dairy-free ice cream, puddings, etc.

Day 3

Is a vegetarian diet a test of fellowship?

Position of the SDA Church:

“The diet God ordained in the Garden of Eden-- the vegetarian diet--is the ideal, but sometimes
we cannot have the ideal. In those circumstances, in any given situation or locale, those who wish
to stay in optimum health will eat the best food that they can obtain.” Seventh-day Adventists
Believe...

Is a Total Vegetarian Diet for Everyone?

Must Always Take a Global Perspective

• Availability of fortified foods
• Affordability of those fortified foods
• Ability to implement healthy dietary changes
• Availability of quality supplements
• Affordability of supplements
• Level of food and nutrition knowledge
Suggestions for a Healthy Animal-free Diet

Ensure ample grains, vegetables, legumes, fruits, nuts, seeds and berries.
Avoid replacing animal foods by refined, sweet, fatty commercial products, even if from plant
sources. Take a supplement of vitamin B12 regularly.
Obtain adequate sunlight and emphasize high calcium vegetables, or supplement with calcium.

Consider supplements high in omega-3 fatty acids.
If you wait to modify your lifestyle until all the details are known for sure—you will be dead!

Rationale for Choosing a Diet

• What kind of vegetarian philosophy does the Seventh-day Adventist church teach?
Hygienic (health)
Philosophical or theological
Big Differences

1. SDA: practice a vegetarian diet for hygienic reasons.

2. Vegans: practice for philosophical/ theological reasons.
3. SDA: Humans are created in the image of God!
4. Vegans: Animals are equal to humans.

To recognize health is much more than what we eat!

 Faith in God and service to others

 Exercise
 Sleep
 Avoiding alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine
 Liquids
 A wholesome, balanced plant-based diet

2. How’s of eating healthfully…not just the do’s and don’ts.

3. The importance of avoiding red meat

Health Ministry is About Jesus

“We should ever remember that the object of the medical missionary work is to point sin-sick men
and women to the Man of Calvary, who takes away the sin of the world. By beholding Him, they
will be changed into His likeness.” Counsels on Diet and Food 458

Words of Wisdom from Paul

“Those who feel free to eat anything must not look down on those who don’t. And those who don’t
eat certain foods must not condemn those who do, for God has accepted them. For the Kingdom
of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy
in the Holy Spirit. So then, let us aim for harmony in the church and try to build each other up.
Don’t tear apart the work of God over what you eat…It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or
do anything else if it might cause another believer to stumble.” Romans 14:3, 17, 19-20, 21 (NLT)

LEADERSHIP

Submitting to God’s Leadership in His Church

Key verse: Psalm 23:2, 3

I. The origin of Leadership

1. The book of Genesis records how this world and all its systems started – they all
came from the hand of God. Their beginnings are introduced by the phrase, “Then
God said” (Gen. 1:3, 6, 9, 11,14, 20, 24, 26, 29)
2. Leadership was one of the things God put in place but it is not as emphasized as
other things created by God, “Then God blessed them, “Be fruitful and multiply;
fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds
of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth” (Gen. 1:28). In
this way God put the management of His creation in the hands of Adam and Eve
and their descendants in generations
3. The conclusion of the creation was excellent, “Then God saw everything that he
had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the
sixth day” (Gen. 1:31)
4. Leadership and management of this earth including the church could been enabling
if this world did not experience the fall (Gen. 3). Those who have been given
management and leadership in the household of God should watch how God
Himself leads His church
II. Leadership in the Bible
1. Throughout the Bible God is seen leading His people through His chosen human
leaders
2. Visions/dreams (Genesis 15, 40, 41)
3. Angels (Exodus 14:19; 23:20-23)
4. Miracles (Exodus 7-12)
5. Circumstances (Exodus 14:23-25)
6. A cloud and a pillar (Exodus 13:17-22)
7. Psalm 23 shows how individuals and the church enjoy life when God is leading
and individuals are following God’s leading.
8. The song writer enhances this principle by these words “He leadeth me, He
Leadeth me; by His own hand He leadeth me, his faithful follower I would be, for
by His hand He leadeth me” SDAH no. 537
9. But God’s people have not been faithful followers of God’s leading

II. Israel refuses God’s Leadership (1 Samuel 8:1-20)

1. Elders came to Samuel to Rama and said that they wanted to have a king like other nations
(1 Samuel 8: 4, 5)
2. Samuel was not happy (1 Samuel 8:6)

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 50
3. They insisted they wanted a king to make them like other nations (1 Samuel 8:19, 20)
4. God said it was Him they refused and allowed them to have their way (1 Samuel 8:22)
5. It did not take long to proof God right and saw how foolish it was to insist on their ways

III. The Consequences

 But the king would be an oppressor, and a demanding dictator who would enrich himself
at the people's expense. He would press them into his military and domestic enterprises
(verse. 11-13, 16, 17).
 He would appropriate their properties to his own use (verse. 14, 16)
 He would inflict heavy taxes on them (verse 15, 17).
 Their entire history shows that all these met them exactly as God had told them. Their kings
and prophets record this fulfillment

IV. It is the same today

 Jesus still takes the center stage in the leadership in His church and wants to uphold leaders
of the church today at all levels of the church structure – local church, conference, union
or General Conference and all the departments and ministries
 This is clearly taught in Revelation 1:9-20. The vision demonstrates how Jesus would want
His church to be led. Using verse 20 as the key to the symbolism employed in the passage,
we can rewrite verse 13 and 18 like this, “And at the center of the seven churches, stood
Jesus clothed with a garment down to His feet and girded about His chest with a golden
band. Jesus had in His hand the seven leaders of the seven churches (v. 11, 16)
 The interpretation is that leadership in the household/church of God will be beneficial if
Jesus Christ is recognized as center of the church and leaders accept to held in the right
hand of Jesus Christ so as to operate from there as they lead His church in many and various
assignments in the church
 If someone refuses to be led by God, his or her life will be messed up and the church or
department he/she leads will suffer a lot
 A return to God is the only solution to good leadership in the church of God especially in
these last days of this earth’s history (Malachi 3:7)
 The decision is yours (Isaiah 1:19, 20)

STEWARDSHIP

STEWARDSHIP MATERIALS FOR CAMPMEETING – 2020.

Day 1

Set your Priorities Right – Revival and Reformation – Believe God and His Prophets.

We are alive today by the Grace of God. Our God is faithful in all ways. It is by His mercies that
we have been preserved, and believe that He has drawn us to Himself through His love Jer.31:3.

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 51
We need to remind ourselves, that we belong to God twice, first He created us in His own Image
and after the fall He redeemed us. So we belong to God twice by Creation and Redemption.

As His Children what has the Lord not done to us? Read Isaiah 5:1-12.

Preparations of the vineyard- dug around it, removed all stones, planted the choicest vine and built
a tower in the middle of it, and hewed out a wine vat in it, the He expected it to produce good
grapes. But it produced only worthless ones. Men Judge! What more was there to do for my
vineyard that I have not done in it? Why when I expected it to produce good grapes, did it produce
worthless ones? Note the results in verse 5-6. Vs 7 – What God looked for is justice, but behold
bloodshed, for righteousness but behold a cry of distress. Verses 8-12- Look at what is going to
happen.

We need to go back to the basics beloved believers. What do we do? Have a personal communion
with God, Commit and surrender yourself in the first moments of each day in Communion with
God through Prayer, Bible Study, Spirit of Prophecy and lesson, make it your daily practice, let it
be your habit, it will not leave your life the same. You are God’s steward you will never do this
by your own strength but by the Holy Spirit – Zech. 4:6.

Day 2

You Obtain Strength through Prayer

In Gen. 2:18 – God saw that it was not good for a man to be alone, He saw need for companionship.
He made for Adam, a companion suitable for Him. Hence from the beginning, God has blessed
us with families, we have all come from some family or home. Count it a blessing to be with a
family. Hence you need to cherish family fellowship, worship and Association.

Matt. 18:20 – For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am in their midst. In times like
this we need God more than ever in our families. In Psalms 127:1-5 – Unless the Lord builds the
house, they labour in vain those who built it, unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman keeps
awake in vain. It is very important to have our children directed and guided right, remember these
are the parents of tomorrow – Prov. 22:6- Children learn from what they see, do not underrate
them. In Jer. 13:20 – The Lord will ask you, where is the flock that was given to you? Are you a
good steward at home in teaching, training and guiding children in God’s way? Do you put God
first in your life as an example, in regular and daily family worship? Or the first thing you do is
preparing Breakfast and tell the young ones to run to school? You need to ask yourself, when I
will not be there, what kind of family am I leaving behind? May God help us to be mindful of our
families, let home be the best place for anyone to long to be. As we long for heaven, a home where
we shall stay for eternity. Be a good steward as you teach and lead by example in prayer, study of
scripture, outreach and returning of tithes and offerings.

Day 3

Our Health Habits

Our God is very concerned with our bodies. From the beginning He gave man the food to eat Gen
1:29. He gave every plant yielding seed on the surface of the earth to be food for man. Our bodies
are gifts given to us, as temples of the Holy spirit, they should be kept well both physically and
Spiritually. We are not our own, we have been bought with a precious price, therefore we need to
glorify God with our bodies. 1Cor. 3:16-17; 6:19-20.

You have to be a good steward of your body, do not feed it with whatever you wish, eat proper
diet, do work with temperance, sleep enough, think more of heavenly things. In 1cor. 10:31, it
states- whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. May God
give us wisdom to keep our bodies well, to have good health, that we can be dedicated to serve
Him, we need to focus our lives beyond this world.

Day-4

Outreach Ministry

Our God in His mercy, love and goodness has given each one of us some talents. We need to use
these talents to glorify Him. Read Matt. 25:14-30. We are given talents according to our abilities,
some more some less. Are you making use of the talents God has given you? The most important
thing is making use of talents given to us. If you are not making use, you will know the
consequences when you will be called upon to give an account to the owner. In 1 Peter. 4:10 – As
each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another, as good stewards of the
manifold grace of God.

As a good steward plan to offer a day (an evening) in every week to work for God, spreading the
good news to others through Bible studies and small groups. Do something for God in terms of
visitation. There are some who do visitation, but they carry on non-essentials or their own agenda.
Change and do the essentials. Because all things of this world are passing away, 1John 2:15-16,
let us not waste time in loving things of this world, that have no value. Think of heavenly things
that have value- Philippians 3:20, we belong to heaven, let us dwell more on the things of heaven.

Day-5

Let us keep God’s Sabbath day Holy

The seventh day is not like any other day. Gen 2:3 – when God finished His work that He wanted
done, He rested. God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His
work which He had created and made

This was a day that God set aside, He ceased or desisted from His work, He was not weary, He
had what He wanted His children to learn. This is the day of the Sabbath which was given to
mankind as a time of ceasing from their normal activities. Take time and read – Ex. 16:29; 20:8-
11; Deu 5:15,; Jer.17:21; Amos 8:4-5. People have gone too far in not keeping limits, God is
reminding us not to mix the holy with the common. We need to take God’s things seriously.

As we have been blessed we need to go before God with thanks giving – Deuteronomy 16:16-17.
We need to be sincere and understand that tithe, from any income we get 10% belongs to God-
Mal. 3:10. Giving offerings is according to the blessings and generosity 2Cor. 7:6-8. Regularity
and proportionally are good principles to follow. Giving to those in need and other projects may
take place as additions. God wants us to be happy and share in the spread of His word globally.
Are we faithful to God dear believers? Let us be revived and reformed in this area.

Day 6

Christian involvement in betting

What is Betting? Is a game that people participate in, trying lack if they can get a fortune. Many
people are involved in the same. Is it right? Let us listen to what the Bible says for guidance.

Isa. 65:11 – It can be a form of idolatry, we forget God and turn to other things.

Exo. 20:17- Betting is rooted in the spirit of lust and covetousness.

Ecc.5:10; Heb. 13:5; Luk. 12:15; 1Tim. 6:10 – Demonstration of love for money.

Ecc. 5:10; Pro. 13:11; 23:5- It is a sign of discontentment and impatience moved by the desire for
quick riches. It is against God’s rules of faith. We need to do things that can generate some income
for us, that we may be self-reliant, support ourselves as God’s people and not rely on betting which
is not in God’s programme. Even the pyramid schemes, which have indeed frustrated so many
people, we need not to engage ourselves in such things. Let us be careful with these cheap and
fast ways of acquiring wealth, bahati na sifu, that is not God’s way. Work and get an honest income
from your sweat and it goes with a blessing. May God help us to be faithful in depending on Him
and returning to Him, that which He has given us. 1Chron. 29:14. Be blessed, be determined to be
revived and reformed in the name of Jesus – Amen,

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

We praise the Lord for giving us another year to live and to evaluate our walk with Him and to be
co-labourers with Him to ensure that the good news of the Kingdom has reached everyone and
everywhere to be a witness before the end of the world comes.
This year has come with a lot of challenges due the covid-19 crisis that has hit the whole world.
We thank God for sparing us and protecting us from covid-19. God has good plans for us and that
is why He has given us another opportunity to have life.

The education sector in this country along with all other sectors has been affected adversely by the
pandemic. Schools were closed abruptly in March and they have taken a long time to re-open.
This Covid-19 is a game changer and we need to think on how to continue teaching and learning
going forward. Digital teaching and learning seems to be the way to go into the future.
The theme for this year for our church in East Kenya Union Conference; is Revival and
Reformation. As the education department of the union we appreciate this theme because it gives
the membership an opportunity to re-look into our dealings with our children as it relates to their
education.

We need a revival and reformation in this aspect because for a long time we as Adventists have
lost confidence with our institutions of learning and have embraced secular and public institutions
for our children and even worse other denominations’ institutions who have their own agenda and
which is completely opposed to our agenda as Seventh-day Adventists.
We need to be revived to the fact that Adventist education has a critical role to play in the lives of
our children and the youth in this temporal life and in the world to come. As Ellen G. White has
put it very clearly in her book Education that true education is to restore in man the image of his
maker, to bring him back to the perfection in which he was created, to promote the development
of body, mind and soul, that the divine purpose in His creation might be realized... This was to be
the work of redemption. This is the object of education, the great object of life. (pp. 15, 16)

We need to seriously evaluate ourselves and see what has become of our children whom we sent
to public schools and Roman Catholic Church schools and be candid in our evaluation and then
you will agree with us that we need a revival and reformation in this area of our Christian
experience. Going forward we need to consider very seriously taking our children to our
institutions of learning.

Some study done by the Education Department of the General Conference known as valuegenesis
has these revealing facts that should stimulate us as Adventist parents to take deliberate decisions
to take our children to our Adventist institutions:

1. While almost 60 % of children that were not exposed to Adventist Education, decided to
become baptized, 40% were never baptized. However, close to 85% of children attending
an Adventist school for one or more years and almost 97% of children attending an
Adventist school for 11 years or more decided to become a baptized member.
2. Children exposed to Adventist education are two times more likely to pay tithe, three times
more likely to choose a partner of the same faith, and two times more likely to stay active
church members.
3. Adventist education is also impacting children favorably in regards to developing attitudes
toward paying tithe, marriage, and their commitment to the Church, as stated by a 13-year
long study by Robert Rice. Adventist education is also impacting children favorably in
regards to developing attitudes toward paying tithe, marriage, and their commitment to the
Church, as stated by a 13-year-long study by Robert Rice.
4. It is clear that attending an SDA school does have a great impact on our Adventist children
and their future development to become an active church member.

5. Adventist education is the longest and largest evangelistic event held by the Adventist
church with a duration of 800 - 37,400 hours, depending on the number of years children
spend in Adventist education, and it is a very effective approach.
(https://www.adventistresearch.org/blog%2009_18_Adventist%20Education) Accessed
on May 21, 2020
Considering the education of our youth, it is known now that over 80% of our youth take their
college and university education in public and other mission institutions. It is also known that by
the time they finish their first degree more that 30% leave their Adventist faith. This is very serious
and we cannot afford to go on like this. Ellen G. White many years ago penned the following
statement to guide us as parents to take serious care of our youth as they take their studies.

“[Satan] well knows that there is no other class that can do as much good as young men and young
women who are consecrated to God. The youth, if right, could sway a mighty influence. Preachers,
or laymen advanced in years, cannot have one-half the influence upon the young, that the youth,
devoted to God, can have upon their associates…You can do a work that those who minister in
word and doctrine cannot do. You can reach a class whom the minister cannot affect”.—Messages
to Young People, p. 204 & p. 207.
The General Conference after realizing that the situation was that unfortunate set up a special
ministry known as Public Campus Ministry (PCM) which is tasked with the responsibility of
following our youth in the public campuses and discipline them for Jesus.

We are therefore calling on all Adventist parents in the union territory to take this opportunity to
allow God to revive their hearts and to consider Adventist Education seriously and to take all their
school going children to church schools going forward. We have such schools from the lowest
level to the highest. We are calling for repentance for the mistakes we made in the past when we
took our children to public and Roman Catholic Church schools.

We need revival and reformation. We need to put our resources together and make sure that our
schools are the best in the country. Build good facilities for our children, install internet, equip
these schools with computers and gadgets to enable learning to go on even in such times like these
of Covid-19.

We should take and claim our position which our gracious God gave to us from the very beginning
when He said that we shall be the head and not the tail. (Deuteronomy 28:13)
We should follow the good counsel from the servant of the Lord Ellen G. white who penned for
us wonderful counsel on Adventist Education.

We really need revival and reformation which is defined as follows:

A revived church is one that has an ongoing experience in the spiritual journey of each Christian
and in the life of the church. A revived church also has a renewal of the spiritual energies of the
soul. It has to do with a new commitment to Jesus every day. It leads us to a deeper experience in
prayer, a more diligent study of God’s Word, and a life of service and witness. A heart hungering
for spiritual revival is a heart that longs for a more intimate experience with Jesus. It isn’t satisfied
with a shallow, superficial experience. It craves much more. Accessed on May 13,2020.

SPECIAL NEEDS MINISTRIES

Understanding People with Special Needs

Introduction: The great commission given to the church by Christ was to preach the gospel to
every creature (Mk 16:15). All people are supposed to be reached by the gospel of Christ. But
there is a class of people who in the real sense have been left out in this heavenly program. These
are the people with Physical Special Needs.

1. Types of people with Special Needs.

We have various types of disabilities, or physically challenged people. These includes the
following:

(a) Developmental Disabilities (Impairment). This includes the cerebral palsy, mental
retardation, epilepsy and autism.
(b) Hearing impairments (Deaf).
(c) Mobility impairments (Lame, Crippled).
(d) Learning disability
(e) Visual impairment (Blind)
(f) Albinos

2. How do people become impaired? It is important that the church members should know how
people become physically challenged. Some of the sources of our physical challenges includes:
(a) Through birth (John 9:1-2)
(b) Through sinful life (John 5:5, 14)
(c) Through sickness. Luke 5:17-19
(d) Through accidents. 2Samuel 4:4-5
(e) Through other people (thieves, criminals), Judges 16:21.
(f) Through old age, Gen 27:1

3. The chief and main impairment
There is a type of impairment (disability) that is common to all people. This one has no cure
from any hospital or doctor. This is found in Romans 3:21. This is sin; sin has attacked all
people of all ages, color, profession, genders, nations and tongues. The Bible says “No one
does not what is right, no, not even one” (Roman 3:10-12).
4. How does God view people with Special Needs?
(a) They are apart of His creation (Exodus 4:10-11)
(b) They are vessels of His glory (John 9:3)
(c) They are a test of those who are physically fit or claim to be Christians (Mt.25:33-46; Lk
14:12-14)
5. What is the Critical Need of People with Disabilities?
(a) Forgiveness of their sins
(b) Acceptance by other Christians
(c) Acceptance in the society
(d) Recognition that they can do some physical activities
(e) Financial and material assistance.

6. How Christ Ministered to people with Special Needs

(a) He regarded and treated them as normal people. He called one “friend” Luke 5:20 and
another one “son” Mt 9:2.
(b) He loved them all; he healed all of them of their diseases, Mt.4:23-25.
(c) He respected their dignity, Mt.9:32-34; 12:12, 22
(d) He cared for their spirituality, Luke 5:20; John 5:14
7. Know the five goals of the Special Needs Ministries in a local church
(a) To make sure people with Special Needs are accepted in the Local Church
(b) To make sure that their needs (toilet, water, chairs etc.) are in the church, and the church
itself is accessible by the people with Special Needs.
(c) To include the people with special needs in the church activities as much as their ability is
possible.
(d) To include them in evangelism, singing, teaching and inviting others to church
8. How to minister to people with Special Needs?
(a) Change your attitudes to them; know that they are God’s loved children the way they are.
(b) Communicate with them clearly and plainly and at the right time.
(c) Listen to them attentively.
(d) For those who use wheel chairs, do not lean on those chairs. Remember the Wheel chair
is apart of the person’s body.
(e) Use proper acceptable language while addressing them. Do not say “Where is this lame
man?” or “Call that blind man.” Do not use the phrase “The handicapped.”
9. Those with hearing impairment (the Deaf)
While all people with impairments can hear and receive the gospel and be converted, those
with the hearing impairment are more challenged because they cannot hear the preaching

unless they have somebody to interpret to them using sign language. So let every church train
sign language interpreters so that the hearing impaired, person can benefit.

Conclusion. The time allocated for this department may not be enough to cover the whole
material. But you, the presenter can try to make a summary of the lesson. Be clear and simple
so that your listener will benefit. If your congregation has people with hearing impairment
[deaf] please ask the church leadership to provide a sign language interpreter.

VOICE OF PROPHECY - BIBLE CORRESPONDENCE SCHOOL [VOP]

Introduction

Before Christ went to heave, He left with/to the church (The Apostles) what we call “The Great
Commission.” This is the mission of evangelizing the world with His gospel. The Apostles took
this very seriously to an extent that they were accused of having “filled Jerusalem with their
teachings and intend to bring this man’s (Jesus) blood upon us.” They were also accused of having
turned the world upside down.” Acts 5:28; 17:6.

The Adventist Church which was organized in 1863 has taken this commission very seriously.
The church has tried to penetrate as many countries as possible using different methods. The
methods the church has used to evangelize the world include:

1. Medical Ministry
2. Education Ministry
3. Pastoral Ministry
4. Literature Ministry
5. Bible Correspondence Schools
6. Media ministry [TV, satellite, sms]

BIBLE CORRESPONDENCE SCHOOLS

Here we are discussing; Bible Correspondence Schools, commonly known as Voice of Prophecy
(VOP).

History of VOP

The Voice of Prophecy, Bible Correspondence School was started in 1926 by an American called
Harold Marshall Silvester Richards (H. M. S. Richards). He begun by going to Voice of America
(VOA) Radio to request for time to Air Bible lesson of which he was gladly granted and freely.
He began broadcasting Bible studies on the Books of Daniel and Revelation.

In 1929, he had regular broadcast. He called the program “The Tabernacle of the Air.” He choose
four male singers who he named “Lone Star Four.” In 1937, the Pacific Union Conference began

sponsoring the program. The program changed its name to the “Voice of Prophecy” and the four
singers were renamed “Kings Heralds.”

In 1941, the VOP School was officially established by August the same year, over 60,000 students
were learning from the school (VOP Bible Study Guides).

VOP in Kenya;

VOP in Kenya was started by Pastor J. R. Wieland in 1954 who was the president of Central Kenya
Field. He was assisted by the late Pastor Andrew Gathemia who translated the VOP lessons into
Kikuyu and named it “MUGAMBO WA URATHI” (word of prophecy).

In 1957, Central Kenya Field then (CKF) handed over the VOP School to East African Union. The
Union Built the VOP office at Karura 1964 where it still located.

VOP Bible Study Guides;

The VOP study guides are

1. Discover / Ugunduzi
2. Focus on the Family
3. Daniel and Revelation
4. Health

How to begin a VOP School in your Church

1. Let each Local Church appoint a Departmental called VOP Director.

2. The Departmental to present an agenda item to the Church Board which in turn takes an
action to open a VOP School in their Church.
3. After the action is taken, the Director will fill a form at the VOP office of the Conference
or Field) and return it to the Conference. Then he/she will be given the study guides.

How to use the Study Guides

1. Educate and train members on how to get students, at least every Church member to have
one VOP student.
2. The study guides are not for members but for the non-Adventist; they are not even for those
in Baptismal class. They are strictly to be used by non SDAs.
3. Teach the members how to give out the study guides – not the whole set but at most three
– three. This will depend on the ability of the student and the distance between the
instructor and the learners.
4. You as the Director should have a list of all members who are using the material and
students attached to each member.

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 60
5. Since the marking schemes are attached to every packet of the study guides, photocopy the
scheme and give every instructor a copy for them to mark the study guides.
6. After students have successfully completed a course (family, Discover, Daniel &
Revelation, Health) prepare for the graduation ceremony, which should be well conducted,
without hurry or harassment.
7. On that graduation day, get gifts to be given along with the certificates. The gifts can be
Bibles, or other spiritual books.
8. A follow up system to those who have studied these study guides should be carefully and
thoroughly established. Makes sure that those who would wish to join the Adventist faith
have to do so.
9. For those who join the Adventist Church, they should be put into a Special Bible Study
Class to be taught the true standards of the Adventist Church.
10. A report of each Local Church VOP School should be sent the conference at the end of
every quarter.

Conclusion. Many VOP Bible study guides are annually wasted in many ways. In some cases,
they are used in shops and butcheries to wrap the sold materials. In some churches, the guides are
used by elders and church members as a means of getting certificates and bible gifts. You as the
teacher for this lesson insist that the material is meant to be an evangelistic tool, to reach out to
non-believers and Christians of other faiths.

ADVENTIST MUSLIM RELATION

DAY 1

INTRODUCTION TO APOLOGETICS

What is Apologetic?

Definitions

 Greek word. Apologia “answer” “reason” or “defense”

 Apologetics is the science and art (usanii) of defending truth which includes the rational
application of facts and reason appropriately and prayerful

Apologia used 8x in NT,

 i).Acts 22:1, ii).Acts 26:16, iii).1st Cor. 9:3, iv).2nd Cor. 7:11,v). Phil 1:7, 17, vi).2nd Tim
4:16, vi).1 Peter 3:15

THE TASK OF APOLOGETICS

 To present convincingly case for the Biblical truth message

 To rationally challenge the objectors to the truth of the Bible message to defend their belief

 Apologetics can be defensive and offensive at the same time (Philippians 1:7, 2 Cor. 10:5-
6

REASONS WHY WE NEED APOLOGETICS

 The Bible commands us (1Peter 3:15)
 Christians need to be well ground in their faith.
 There are numerous false teachings in circulation which demands a response.

METHODOLOGY OF APOLOGETICS

 Prayer life (Luke 24:45, James 1:5)

 Know the location of relevant scripture to particular objections raised (Psalms 119:11)
 Be ready to defend the truth any time (1Peter 3:15)
 Develop the art of listening to your objectors
 Rehearse your answers

DAY 2

ANSWERING KEY MUSLIM QUESTIONS

 Islam is the only major world religion that challenges the claims of Christianity and
presents itself as its correction Contrary to the Quran, Muslims claim that Islam came as a
correction of Judaism and Christianity
 Islamic scholars throughout the ages have questioned aspects of Christian beliefs

THINGS TO AVOID IN APOLOGETICS

 Arrogance as if know it all or looking down to those you engage with

 Ignorance of the subject at hand and even of the tools available to defend the particular
aspect of truth
 Irrational approach to issues at hand, lack of facts and logic

THINGS TO DO

 Take the initiative to go to people (Math 28:18-20, Acts 17:17)

 Build relationships with people. 1Thesabians 2:8
 Seek to break own social, cultural and religious barriers which hinder people from
accepting Jesus Christ as their personal savior
 Communicate by clearly explaining the gospel to people (2 Corinthians. 5:11)
 Challenge people to accept Christ as their savior
 Guide and establish those who accept the Bible faith.

DAY 3

PILLARS OF FRIENDSHIP IN APOLOGETIC.

 Formula

1.Hold discussion, (Surah 3:64) (1st peter 3:15..)

 Muslims are challenged to find a better formula by holding discussions with Christians on
matters of faith.

2.Compete in goodness (Surah 5:48),(James 1:27..,James 2:26..)

 God deliberately created these religious differences, so that Muslims can have the
opportunity to show goodness
 In essence they are required to continue in dialoguing with Christians in matters of faith

3.Common ground belief (Surah 29:46, 47),(Psalms 133:1-2.,Acts 17:26..)

 Muslims are encouraged to engage Christians on matters of common beliefs.

4.Reason with them in a better way (Surah 16:125..) (Isaiah 1:18...,Mathew 10:16…)

 The propagation of Islam has to be done in a peaceful way

5.Repel evil with goodness (Surah 41:34)

 Islam is a religion of peace and so Muslims must leave by its tenets

COMMON QUESTIONS RAISED BY MUSLIMS

 Which is the true word of God; The holy Bible or Quran?

 Is Jesus the son of God?
 Did Jesus Christ Die on the cross?
 Why does Christianity limit people to a monogamous marriage. (Qur. 4:3)
 Was Jesus a Muslim or Christian?
 Where is the Christians Quiblah?
 Why don’t Christians remove their shoes when they pray? (20:11, 12)
 Why did Christians arise the name Muhammad from the Bible? (Qur. 61:6)
 Who is the universal prophet sent to the whole world; Mohammad or Jesus?
 Which is the true religion before God; Christianity or Islam?
 Who was supposed to be offered as a sacrifice; Isaac or Ishmael?

DAY 4

PRINCIPLES OF ANSWERING MUSLIMS QUESTIONS

 Gilchrist suggests the follow:

1. Fairness, patience and gentleness

2.Avoid quarrelling and disputations
3.Be serious about your faith
4.Be Biblical in your responses
5.Use objection as an opportunity for witness
6.Go for his/her felt needs (my addition)

 Further to these, Nehls and Eric have added…

QUALITIES OF AN EFFECTIVE WITNESS

1.Compassion
 Jesus had for His people
2.Empathy
 Like Paul who was everything to all people, in order to win them to Christ. (1Corinthians
9:19-25)

3.Courage
 Going where others fear to go (Hebrews 10:39)
4.Humility
 Not looking down upon on a Muslim (1Corinthians 4:7, Rom 12:3, Philippians 2:2-3)
5.Faithfulness is stewardship
 (1Corinthias 4:1)
6.Ability to engage with issues soberly.
 (1Peter 1:13, 1Peter 5:8)
7.Capacity to communicate profound truths in a simple ways
 (1 Corinthians 2:2-13, Colossians 4:3
8.Willingness to pray
 (Ephesians 6:10-20)

DAY 5

UNTOUCHABLES IN ISLAM

 Islam has what would be termed as absolutes or untouchables namely:

1. Allah (Surah 4:112:1-4)

2.Islam (Surah 3:18)

3.Muhammad (Surah 4:58,80)

4.Quran (Surah 4:82)

N/B: Remember there are points in their books which can act as pillars of friendship, use them
accordingly.

Conclusion

An Adventist believer should not refrain from answering Muslim questions

It is important to avoid vain arguments, an individual may win an argument but loose the Soul

It is far much better to lose an argument and win the soul.

The believer’s knowledge of Islam does not grant him a license to “hammer” it down upon a
Muslim inquirer.

The Lord has sent his people out there to make disciples and teach all He commanded but not to
win theological, philosophical and doctrinal debates

COMMUNICATION

Communicating God and His Prophets’ Message like never before

The Bible in the book of Exodus 4 records a very interesting conversation between God and Moses.
In his desire to release the children of Israel from slavery God engaged his servant Moses. Moses
had been providentially prepared for a big assignment; that of delivering the children of Israel from
Egypt to the promised land Canaan. The Bible records a unique incident where God interacted
with Moses as he prepared him for his new assignment to prove to him that his was a divine
assignment (Exodus 3).
Exodus chapter 4 is therefore a deep conversation between God and Moses where Moses seeks
assurance that his was a divine assignment. And hence he engages God in a conversation that
boarders on the question of belief. Exodus 4:1 says “Then Moses answered and said but suppose
they will not believe me or listen to my voice, suppose they say ‘The Lord has not sent you’ “ God

then performs miracles of turning Moses’s stick into a snake and making his hand leprous in order
to confirm to Moses that indeed God is all powerful.
Of interest to this subject is the word “Believe” which features in verses 5, 8, and 9. Verse 5 reads
“ that they may believe that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac,
the God of Jacob has appeared to you”.
verse 8 also says “Then it will be that that if they do not believe you, nor heed the message of the
first sign, that they may believe the message of the latter sign”. And verse 9 reads ” And it shall
be if they do not believe even these two signs or listen to your voice that you shall take water from
the river and pour it on the dry land. The water which you take from the dry land will become
blood”.
The above scriptures point to the importance of believing in God’s prophets. The Bible records the
consequences that the children of Israel faced when they disregarded Moses’s counsel. Not only
did they spend fourty years in the desert but all except Joshua and Caleb died in the desert and
hence did not make it to the promised land.
The old testament prophets such as Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel among others warned God’s
chosen people against disbelief which led to their disobedience and idol worship but without much
success. In the end, God meted out a severe punishment against his chosen people by allowing
them to be taken into captivity by heathen nations.
That same God has called each of us to believe. Part of John 3: 16 says that ‘whoever believes in
Him (Jesus) shall not perish but have everlasting life”. Our eternal destiny is therefore tied to our
believing in God and his son Jesus Christ.
In addition to believing and taking Christ as our personal savior, Jesus commissions us to go and
make disciples (Mathew 28:19). This simply means that God is sending us to His assignments just
as he sent prophets of old. We are to do what he asks us to do. We are his mouthpiece. The
audience and circumstances may be different but the message remains the same and that is calling
people out of darkness into his marvelous light.
The world is now becoming a global village. Thanks to media of all forms. While there may be
people and places where media may be limited, a large percentage of the world population uses
one or more forms of media. In the Kenyan context cellphones are now a common feature in every
home. Radio and television are equally accessible and available in most homes. Social media is in
the hands of millions of users in Kenya too. All these tools are useful in sharing the gospel.
While it may not be possible for most of us to engage in radio and television to share messages of
hope, we have in our hands the simple gadgets such as cellphones that we can use to reach to many
people. Perhaps the question we should ask ourselves is to what extent have we been intentional
in using what we have in our hands for God’s work. What are we doing with the tools that God
has placed in our hands?
It may be important that as many of us that have been saved, God has placed a responsibility in
our hands to point people to Christ. Ezekiel 33:7-9 reminds us of our responsibility of warning the
world of the impending judgement. You and I are the messengers that God has tasked us to ‘Go”
( Mathew 28:19). This command is to every person that has received Christ into their lives. We

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 66
have been given power to become God’s children since we have believed in him ( John 1:12). God
has spoken to us through his son (Hebrews 1:1) and it is up to us to believe in him. And once we

Conclusion and appeal -: as a family do you have regular family prayer in your home? Are you
so busy that you have no prayer for family prayer? May God help you to experience spiritual
revival in your family worship.

DAY 2

THE ADVENTIST FAMILY AND ADVENTIST EDUCATION

Introduction
In my random survey and during family ministries seminars on child training I have discovered
that most Adventist families do not send their children to Adventist schools. It is a concern since
Adventist philosophy of education is only available in Adventist institutions. We need an urgent
revival and reformation in this area. No matter what reasons Adventist parents give our children
need Adventist education.

The Biblical Foundation of Adventist Education

a) The fear of God is taught to the children proverbs 1:7 Colossians 2: 3 in Christ it is hid all
the treasures of wisdom.
b) Job 12: 13 with him are wisdom and might to him belong counsel and understanding
c) The three angel’s messages first angels’ message is fear God … revelation 14: 6 do all our
children receive this message? This messages is expanded in Adventist schools.
iii) The schools of prophets – likened to Adventist schools
a) The schools of prophets were established at Ramah, Kirjath-Jearim and Bethel their
functions were:
b) Act as a barrier against the widespread of corruption
c) To provide for the mental and spiritual welfare of the youth.
d) To promote the prosperity of the nation by furnishing it with men qualified to act in the
fear of God as leaders and counselors.
e) The schools promoted righteousness proverbs 14: 34, the book Education page 46- 47
f) The Adventist schools have a similar role to that of the school of prophets
g) Promote holistic learning - the harmonious development of the physical the mental and
spiritual powers.
h) It prepares a learner for the joy of service in this world and for the world to come – the
book Education by E.G. White page 13.
i) Conclusion: We need a spiritual revival which will lead us to embrace Adventist
education. Where are your children schooling? Are they where God wants them to be? Let
us experience true revival and let your family obey Gods word in all aspects.

DAY 3

ADVENTIST FAMILY AND ADVENTIST STANDARDS

Introduction
The Adventist church has its unique lifestyle and this lifestyle is lived first in the Adventist home,
and then outside home. The apparent reports from the minsters show that this Adventist standards
are not kept.
True spiritual revival has its foundation upon Christ 1 Corinthians 2: 11 Titus 2: 11-12 when Christ
dwells in the family members’ hearts their behavior changes and this change in behavior affects
all aspects of life. A person who is saved bears the fruits of the spirit Gal. 5: 22. Let us consider
some of the lifestyle expected in Adventist home.
Health living
a) The body of a believer is a temple of the Holy Spirit - 1 Corinthians 6: 19
b) The Adventist live “celebration” life style
Let the Adventist families examine the following lifestyle:
- The Adventist and modern technology- movies, television, radio, videos and mobiles, etc
check their use at their home.
- Bible study and prayer- are members consistent in Bible study and prayer at home
- Sabbath keeping – family and Sabbath rest- examine whether your family is keeping Gods
Sabbath as required in the Bible Lev: 23: 32Isaiah 58: 13
- Reverence at the place of worship- are parents and children respecting places of worship?
1 Tim 3: 215, Hebrews 2: 20
- Dress – are parents and their children dressing appropriately at home, church and public
places 2nd timothy 2: 9
- Simplicity – are you aware that “increase of pomp in religion always parallels a decline in
spiritual power”
- As the life of Jesus presented a marked contrasts to the display and ostentation of this time,
so the simplicity and power of the advent message must be in marked contrast to the
worldly display of our day education p .77.
- Conclusion: Are your family abiding in the lifestyle of Adventist standard? Is Jesus Christ
the models of your family? If you have failed to return to Christ, have self-examination.

DAY 4
ADVENTIST FAMILIES AND ADVENTIST MESSAGE
Introduction
Adventist families have a special message to convey to the world. It is the message of Revelation
14:16-12. Are we as Adventist families proclaiming this message? Are we proclaiming Laodicean
message?

The Adventist message

 The book of Revelation 3: 14-15- 18
 ‘The message to the Laodicea church is highly applicable to us as people
 ‘EG white manuscript 33:1894
 ‘The Laodicean messages applies to all who profess to keep the law of God and you are
not doers of it….. ‘Review and Herald ot 17,1901)
 “Many are Laodicean’s, living in a spiritual self- deception. They clothe themselves in the
garments of their own righteousness imagining themselves to be rich and increased with
goods and in need of nothing, when they need daily to learn of Jesus, his meekness and
lowliness else they find themselves bankrupt, the whole life being a lie” ( letter 66, 1894)
 “The Laodicean message has been sounding. Take this message in all its phases and sound
it fourth to the people whenever providence opens the way.

JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH AND THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF CHRIST ARE THE

THEMES TO BE PRESENTED TO A PERISHING WORLD”(LETTER 24, 1892)

11) The Adventist message

- Let all Adventist families present to their family members -Christ and him crucified John
8: 32 1corithians 2: 2
- Let all Adventist families lay a firm foundation upon the gospel- life death crucification
and return of Christ in Glory
- Let all Adventist families buy from Christ (exchange self-righteousness with Christ
righteousness Rev. 3: 18
- Gold tried in fire- (faith and love)
- White garment – the righteousness of Christ which is also the wedding garment- which
Christ alone can give exesalve .a spiritual discernment 1 Corinthians 2: 14, Ephesians 2:
18.

Conclusion and appeal: Our emphasis this year on family ministries is on Spiritual, Revival and
Reformation in Families. We have considered four areas where we need to conduct this spiritual
revival, in family worship, Adventist education, Adventist standards or lifestyle and Adventist
message. Considering this aspects, and may God help you experience true spiritual revival and
reformation in your families.

2. The understanding of an unchangeable God from the Old to the New Testament.
3. The understanding of God as no respect of Kings.
4. The understanding that obedience to God leads to revival and reformation.

Day 2- Ambassadors

SAMSON: “Powerful without but powerless Within.”

When we think of power, strength, might, our minds quickly go to the story of Samson in the book
of Judges chapter 13-16. And yet as we think of Samson, many things come to mind: he never cut
his hair since he was born a Nazarite; full of strength: the Hercules of the Old Testament;
The one famous heavy weight who was finally knocked flat by a feather weight named Delilah; a
judge of Israel who ruled Israel for 30 years but who failed to rule his own life.

The backdrop of this story is the philistine dominion of Israel. They never allowed the Israelites to
do any metal work lest they make spears and swords. A farmer could not sharpen his axe without
the express permission from these tyrants. They were Israel’s worst nightmare. The Israelites were
oppressed the longest by these warlike neighbors and they were never conquered until the time of
King David who finally wiped them out.

Birth and upbringing of Samson

Although we are not given the name of Mrs. Manoah, we are only told that she was barren in
Judges 13:2. It is against this backdrop that we are introduced to Mr. and Mrs. Manoah, the parent
of Samson, who was a champion. Their quiet lives are interrupted by angelic visitation in verse 3.
Any barren woman would want to hear this word: the angel announcing that you shall conceive a
child and give birth to a son, the way the child will grow and live his life to death and the purpose
he will fulfil. For Samson he was to be a deliverer of Israelites from the Philistines.

Our theme/study sermon is on revival and reformation as an overarching theme.

A whole chapter is dedicated to the parents of this great man Samson in chapter 13 of Judges. And
his parents named him “Samson” which means “like the sun” but as things turned out, his life was
the exact opposite of his name. Samson was a Nazarite from birth and his hair was untouched with
a razor as token to God.

The Nazarite-vow is found in numbers chapter 6: No wine or products from the grape fruit
No razor to touch your hair
No, touching of any dead thing

Both men and women could take a Nazarite vow for a time or for a lifetime. This meant that anyone
who was a Nazarite was to be separated for Holy use, sanctified for God's use ONLY.
Nazirites: Are commanded not to drink wine but they also must stay away from grapes or the
vineyards altogether. The other two being stay away from the barber and dead bodies! Samson
broke all three!

There are several lessons that we can draw from the story:
Firstly, we are called to live a holy life: Young people and all of us are called to be Saints. Our
lives are not to be separated from God. We are to work for God and with God. In a spiritual sense
we must be all-natural Nazirite. We have to be consecrated and set apart for God's purposes. The
Nazirite vow is compared to baptism which signifies our commitment to God. The Apostle Paul
says: come out from among them and be ye separate,” says the Lord: “Do not touch what is unclean
and I will be a Father to you and you shall be my sons and Daughters,” says the Lord almighty. 1
Corinthians 6: 17, 18. God expects Christian young men, women and rest to live a holy life which
is wholly dedicated to Him. In other words, we are not told to be for God when we are in church
only or when with our chat mates but all the time 24/7. He understood the concept of being
separated for God but missed the concept of holiness.

Samson had it all worked from the outside: he looked like a Nazarite, smelled, sounded, but on the
inside, he was a Pagan. He lived as if he didn’t know the one in whom he believed even today we
too have the same problem among us. We are trying to keep a balance between how we look on
the outside and what we are inside. The concept of holiness is internal, it should modify
the outward appearance as well unlike Samson.

Friends, holiness is internal but expressed externally: Today if one talks about dress, he is
considered a legalist. But frankly Samson's problem is our problem. He followed the outside
standards while ignoring the inner holiness. The long hair was visible but his heart was disobedient.

Secondly, when you ignore the internal quality of your life, you will be controlled by external
attractions: In judges 14:1 and 2 it is recorded that the custom of the day was for the parents to
arrange the marriage of their sons or daughters. Please don't misunderstand me. There is nothing
wrong with physical attraction. It is good to marry someone you are attracted to. However, Samson
was attracted to the wrong person in the wrong place.
See verse 3, it reads: “…get her for me for she pleases me well,” said Samson. `He is driven by
lust, stomach, anger, and the lust of the eyes,” 1 John 3:2.
The young man had no self-control. The Bible says in Proverbs 25: 25 that “a person without self-
control is like a city with broken down walls.” It leaves a person defenseless before his enemies.

In making a major decision, what is your primary criteria? What drives your choices? Does it
please me or the Lord? One has to decide on whether to be spirit led or driven by selfishness. No
one stopped him from what he wanted; he had an unteachable spirit. Samson rejects his parents'
Wisdom and decides for himself.

Thirdly, Our free time flows in the direction of weaknesses:

Our Bible passage does not say what Samson was engaged in on a daily basis for example: what

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 73
was his vocation? He was Nazarene. Instead of engaging in his call, he became Idle; his weakness
was women, young people never allow yourself to be idle. If you have no work sign up for a
volunteer job for a mission, for an internship etc.

A parent committed to the Lord may never reap holiness for godliness in his child.
Do you have parents? It is possible to raise a child in the ways of the Lord and they turn out to
reject your values? Samson had been given so much but he rejected it all. Take a look at what
resources were at his disposal. How much power Samson had, maybe you're one of those too?
His name means Sunny or like the sun. What's in a name? What's the meaning of your name? He
had godly parents who loved the Lord with all their hearts.

He was blessed with a special mission from God, empowered by the Holy Spirit. Samson had
everything that when he grew up, he broke his parents’ hearts. Parents when this happens do not
lose hope keep on your knees, and the Lord will remember your labor of faithfulness.

You are free to choose but you are not free from the consequences of your choices

Every action you do will either bring you closer or take you far from God who is both merciful,
loving and full of justice. As merciful, He hears, and wants us to learn from our mistakes. Like a
father who chastises his child, God also chastises us through the negative consequences of our
actions. Hebrews 12: 5-6. No matter how small the sin might be, there will always be a penalty for
it. The sad thing is that when we sin, we don't just hurt ourselves but also other people.

The failure of God's people never delays the purposes of God for His Church
Samson was morally weak as he was physically strong.
His greatest weakness was women and because of these, Samson is always caught in bad situations.
but he became an adult and decided to marry a woman from Timnath. This was against his parents’
and God's commandment.

Conclusion
It has often been remarked that in this age, we are all little men. A hundred years ago, or more, if
we had gone through the churches, we might have readily found a number of ministers of great
note. But now we are all little men, the driveling sons of nobodies; our names shall never be
remembered, for we do nothing to deserve it. There is scarcely a man alive now upon this earth;
there are plenty to be found who call themselves men, but they are the husks of men, the life has
gone from them, the precious kernel seems to have departed. The littleness of Christians of this
age results from the littleness of their consecration to Christ.

Day 3- Ambassadors

Christ; The Perfect Role Model For the Youth

Scripture: Hebrews 12:1-3, Hebrews 12:1, Hebrews 12:1-2, Romans 8:28

Summary: Learning how to fix our eyes on Jesus as the author and perfecter of our faith. (Heb.
12:1,2)

Christ as the Ideal Model for Youth (Heb. 12:1-3)

Young people are bombarded with a continuous stream of morally degrading images in our
technological age that can cause a crisis in our youth’s spiritual development

However, amidst these, the youth can fix their eyes on Jesus. "Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author
and perfecter of our faith who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, not minding the shame,
and is now set down on the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who endured such
sufferings les you be wearied and faint in your mind." (Heb. 12:1-3). Daniel Webster, the famous
American who developed our modern dictionary once predicted, "If truth be not diffused, error
will be. If God and His word are not known and received, the devil and his works will gain the
ascendancy. If the power of the gospel is not felt throughout the length and breadth of the land,
corruption and darkness will reign." (1782-1852).

We must hold up Jesus Christ as the model for young people or they will fall into the traps of
insidious temptations that will haunt them for the rest of their lives. The following are several ways
that Christ can be held up as a role model for today’s youth.

1. Jesus taught and lived the golden rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do to you." He
initiated friendships without waiting for someone to show kindness to Him. Jesus knew what it
took to initiate good to others instead of waiting for others to serve Him.

Oftentimes people say, "God is good! We prayed that it would not rain for our campout, and look
at the lovely weather!’" Yes, God is good when He sends good weather. But God was also good
when He allowed my ailing friend to suffer to death before my eyes. God is in charge and has not
forgotten us. Remember His Word: ’For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His
steadfast love toward those who fear Him. There is an ocean of God’s love available--there is
plenty for everyone. May God grant you never to doubt that victorious love--whatever the
circumstances."

2. Jesus did not allow Himself to become distracted with temptations. He filled His mind with the
word of God using it as a sword to fight the enticements of the world and the flesh and the devil.
(I John 2:15,16) Love not the world, nor the things in the world, for all that is in the world, the lust
of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life is not of the Father but is of the
world."

3. Jesus continually refreshed His soul with worship and communion with His heavenly Father
through prayer. The Lord Jesus did not allow His soul to become dry from neglect of His spiritual

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 75
disciplines. Early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up and went out to a lonely
place and there He prayed. (Mark 1:35)

4. Jesus did not allow the religious authorities to discourage Him from gaining His strength,
guidance and blessings from His heavenly Father. He did not grow dependent on human sources
of inspiration. Jesus said, “you are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows
your heart. For that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God." (Luke
15:16)

5. Jesus focused on spiritual goals of advancing the growth of the kingdom of God in qualitative
(Increasing love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-
control) as well as quantitative means (Bringing more people to saving faith).

6. Jesus constantly gave glory to the Lord in His speech, conduct, love, relationships, and purity.
His perspectives were directed completely by things above instead of things of temporal concerns.
"Whatever you do in word or deed do all for the glory of God." (I Cor. 10:31) Can we say that
about our relationships, activities and personal lives?

Day 4- Ambassadors

The Giants Just Keep on Coming

Scripture: 1 Samuel 17:40-47, 1 Samuel 17:17-47(Song: I Need Thee)

1Sam. 17:45-46“Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a
spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies
of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand;….”

We have read or heard this story at least a thousand times. The story of this young shepherd boy
David and this huge problem named Goliath. This same David that became King of Israel, the
same David that was a man after Gods own heart, same David that said The Lord is my Shepherd
and I shall not want.

Every day we run into our own giants. These comes in different sizes and types. These problems
always seem to show up un-invited. And let me just say, that you don’t have to be 18 or 21 to
experience problems in this life. “Quote” legal to have giants in this life. We make the mistake of
thinking that young folks don’t have problems. Young people have challenges that many older
folks have never had to deal with.

In fact it seems like problems get worse and worse. Every time we turn around we face giants at
school, at home, we even battle in the church. All around us are giants that keep coming.

When we look at this shepherd boy the odds looked like they were stacked up against David.
Things did not look too good. In fact the situation looked mighty bad. If we are honest, we feel
like that sometimes. Sometimes we feel like we just can’t win for loosing. This giant was almost
ten feet tall. Then on top of that this Giant didn’t have a problem letting everybody know how bad
he was. A problem is always bigger when you let that problem convince you of how bad it is.40

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 76
days & nights Goliath let everybody know how bad he was. He let the people of Israel know that
he was Goliath. He could unapologetically say: ‘If you don’t know that, you better ask somebody.
I have never been beaten before. I have crushed armies with my single hand. The Israelite army
was defeated before the battle was even fought’.

A lot of times we do the same thing and we let the giants in our life whoop us before the battle
even starts. A lot of us young and not so young have allowed our giants to defeat us. We have
allowed the giants of sex, drugs, pornography; whatever your giant is, it has convinced you that
you got no power. Young people we need to realize that greater is He that is in me than he that is
in the world.

I know that the odds don’t look too good for us. We don’t have to look long but the odds are against
us. Drugs on the corner, strikes in the school, police brutality, ethnic discrimination,
unemployment etc. Yeah the odds are against us but we got Jesus.

We can learn a lesson from David. David didn’t give up when the giants came to his life. David
purposed in his mind that ‘he’ will bless the Lord at all times and his praise.

David remembered that God was faithful in the past. Young brothers and sisters, David had hope
in a hopeless situation. In verse 37 David said God delivered me from the paw of the Lion and the
paw of the Bear. Goliath is just like any other animal that I have faced in the past. God delivered
me from the giants of my past, I know he will deliver me from the ones in my future.

Rather we know it or not we have a past that is filled with God’s faithfulness, mercy, and goodness.
Battling Giants should be nothing new to us. We survived one of the worst pandemic known to
mankind; Covid-19’. In 2020 we are still surviving segregation, unemployment and discrimination
and all other negativism and calamities because the Giants are still coming. You can as well say
‘am still here’/ ‘We are still here’; Not because we are so good, not because we so kind. We are
still here because of God’s faithfulness. We are here because if it had not been for the Lord on my
side somebody tell me where….. Don’t get holy on me. You know if it wasn’t for those two twins
called grace and mercy none of us would be here.

If we call up the role…

Paul said, I am the chief of sinners

Peter said, depart from me I am a sinful man.
Isaiah said ,in the year that Uziah died Woe is me I am a man of un-clean lips
Moses said, I am an evil man
David said, I have a wicked heart.

1Sam 17:45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear,
and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of
Israel, whom thou hast defied.

Vs 46 (First Part) This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand;

DAY 5 – AMBASSADORS

Living by Faith not Fear

(Being a conqueror) Caleb experience

Text: Joshua 14:6-15

Caleb was part of Israel when they left Egypt. He was there when God divided the Red Sea. By
the way, Israel’s passage across the Red Sea is a picture of salvation, free from bondage and safe
in the promised land, yet observing Israel as they journey through the wilderness shows us that
there is much more to salvation than just being set free. God had a land flowing with milk and
honey for them, but to claim it they would have to battle giants.

Now as you know when Moses brought the children of Israel to the border of the Promised Land
he appointed 12 spies to go into the land and report back. Caleb was one of those spies, the only
one other than Joshua to say, “we can take the land.” However, the Israelites chose to wander in
the wilderness another 40 years rather than fight the battles necessary to have what God promised
them. This is yet another picture of the Christian life. When God saves us, He promises us that we
can have peace, joy and victory, and the glory of God upon us, but we choose to live in defeat
simply because we don’t want to fight the battles necessary for victory. Too often we live in a
spiritual wilderness of defeat and depression.

Caleb pictures the Christian that is willing to pay the price, fight the battles and win the victory
that God has in waiting for him. In these verses, we are shown how we can claim our little part of
Canaan and walk in victory day by day.

The following are lessons we learn as youth from the experience of Caleb:

I CALEB’S COMMITMENT (8, 9, 14)

- God had all of Caleb, 6 times in the Old Testament, it is said of Caleb, “he wholly followed
the Lord.”
- Half-Hearted Christians are Faint-Hearted;
1. They never learn to conquer the giants in their lives.
2. James 1:8 tell us that, “A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.”
3. The man who kneels before God can stand before anybody.

- Jesus demands Total Commitment

II CALEB’S CONFIDENCE (12)

Caleb’s Confidence Was In God’s Word (10, 12)

1. Faith is NOT positive thinking

2. Faith is not optimism
3. Faith is not looking on the bright side
4. Faith is acting on what God said!

Caleb’s Confidence Translated into Faith

III CALEB’S COURAGE

 He had overcome Grasshoppers (Numbers 13:33). He had to go against the majority
 He had to overcome giants (Numbers 14:8-9). Instead of saying look how small we are
compared to the giants, Caleb said, “look how small the giants are compared to God.
 He had to overcome gray hair (10-11). When God makes a promise, He gives us strength
to see it through.

IV CALEB’S CONQUEST (13-14)

 Caleb Experienced What God Promised
 Caleb Climbed His Mountain and Defeated His Giants

Conclusion: Where are you today in your personal walk with the Lord? Have you entered your
Canaan and claimed your mountain? God has a place of peace and power for you, but you must be
willing to claim your possession. It is not for the faint-hearted, but it is for the faith-hearted. If you
live in fear of tomorrow you have no faith, and without faith you can have walked 1000 aisles and
said 1000 prayers and you cannot be saved. Salvation is by grace through faith and without faith
there is no salvation.

You are challenged today that you need to nail things down and determine if you’re going to live
by faith or live in fear.

YOUNG ADULTS CAMP MEETIMNG STUDY

Day 1

SAMSON: “Powerful Without but Powerless Within.”

Samson is, in many respects, one of the most remarkable men whose history is recorded in the
pages of the Bible. He enjoyed a singular privilege only accorded to one other person in the Old
Testament, whose birth was foretold to his parents by an angel; Isaac who was promised to
Abraham and Sarah. Samson’s birth was foretold by an angelic messenger before the opening of
the gospel dispensation. Before his birth he was dedicated to God, and set apart as a Nazarite.
Now, a Nazarite was a person who was entirely consecrated to God, and in token of his
consecration he drank no wine; and allowed his hair to grow, untouched by the razor. Samson, you
may therefore; understand, was entirely consecrated to God, and when any saw him, they would
say, "That man is God's man, a Nazarite, set apart."

Read of Judges 16:20,21

It took Samson a whole life time to know the difference between working with God and working
for God. He learnt painfully that there is a difference between shaking oneself and shaking oneself
free! Samson. Powerful without but powerless within.
His birth was special, foretold by an angel; his upbringing was only similar to that of Isaac; he was
a Nazarite from his birth: (ought to have not) touched neither wine, corpse, nor shaved his hair. A
favorite preacher once said: “…God endowed Samson with supernatural strength, a strength

which never could have been the result of mere bones and sinews. It was not the fashioning of
Samson’s body that made him strong. It was not his arm, or his fist with which he smote the
Philistines—it was a miracle that dwelt in him. , a continued going forth of the omnipotence of
God, which made him mightier than thousands of his enemies.”
Samson, however, though he had great physical strength had but little mental force and even less
spiritual power. His whole life is a mixture of miracles and follies. He had but little grace and was
easily overcome by temptation. He is often enticed and led astray. He is often corrected but still
sins again. A cycle of great exploits for God and shameful heroic foolishness with strange women.
Samson loved strange beds too.

Samson, however, though he had great physical strength, had but little mental force, and even less
spiritual power. His whole life is a scene of miracles and follies. He had but little grace, and was
easily overcome by temptation. He is enticed and led astray. Often corrected; still he sins again.
At last he falls into the bottomless hands of Delilah. She is bribed with an enormous sum, and she
endeavors to get from him the secret of his strength. He foolishly toys with the danger, and plays
with his own destruction. At last goaded by her importunity, he lets out the secret which he ought
to have confided to no one but himself. The secret of his strength lay in his locks. Not that his hair
made him strong; but that his hair was the symbol of his consecration, and was the pledge of God's
favor to him. While his hair was untouched, he was a consecrated man; as soon as that was cut
away, he was no longer perfectly consecrated, and then his strength departed from him. His hair is
cut away; the locks that covered him once are taken from him, and there he stands a broken spear,
weak as other men. Now the Philistines begin to oppress him, and his eyes are burned out with hot
iron. How are the mighty fallen? How are the great ones taken in the net? Samson, the great hero
of Israel, is seen with a shuffling gait walking towards Gaza.
Samson the last judge according to the book of Judges who is given the most space for coverage
in the book of Judges. The story begins from chapter 13:1 onwards.

Three love stories Judges 14:1-4

Philistines are not among the seven nations that God forbid Israel from marrying from. However,
although philistine was not on the list, Samson made the wrong choice because philistines
worshipped idols. The past shows that the act of marrying from philistine was from the Lord. This
should not be understood to mean that God approved of Samson's marriage. Rather God use
Samson's bad choices as an opportunity to confront the Philistines. God knows the tendencies of
Samson and the size to use the situation where the Philistines can be destroyed. He could have
easily changed the event but he chose to weave his plans to the tendencies of human beings. Father-
in-law ended up giving his daughter to Samson's best man, and decides to give Samson son the
younger daughter. This upsets Samson, and he sets the farms of the Philistines on fire to revenge
his loss.

Between the second and the third relationships, Samson spends time with a prostitute in Zorek
which folly exposes his life to grim danger. Samson was distracted by his relationships with his
Philistine women he is being driven by his own the Spirit. His passion for women is taking his
life in a Downward Spiral.

The third relationship is with a woman familiar with most of us. Her name is Delilah. Judges 16:
6-20. Delilah asks Samson the source of his strength and three times Samson gives a different
answer. It is called towing with sin. The Bible says in Prov 6:28: “Can one go up on hot coals and

his feet not be burnt?” Every time Samson played cat-and-mouse with Delilah his lips were
getting looser and looser and finally in verse 17 Samson spilled the beans.

Samson's pride convinced him that he could double in sin, playing with sin, tap dance all around
with sin and never get burned but he was wrong.
This was the last dance many young people think Samson's hair was a source of the strength his
hair was outward symbol of the true source of strength God and his vow to him. The point is God's
intentions cannot be paralyzed by us. His work will go on even in our disobedience God will fulfill
his purposes regardless

Not that his hair made him strong; but it was the symbol of his consecration, and was the pledge
of God's favor to him. While his hair was untouched, he was a consecrated man; as soon as it was
cut, he was no longer consecrated, and his strength departed from him; the locks that covered him
once are taken, and there he stood a broken reed, weak as other men.

Samson's own life mirrored the failure of the nation of Israel

● Samson refused the authority of God's word, so did Israel
● They were idolaters and marrying with Philistines.
● Samson refused the parameters of the Nazarite Vow
● Israel rejected the Abrahamic Covenant.
● Samson refused the counsel of Godly parents
● Israel if not the counsel of the priesthood which was their spiritual authority.
● In chapter 14 :3 and 7 this phrase is repeated: “Everyone did what was right in their
Their own eyes”
● Delilah looked good to Samson.
● in chapter 21:25 the Bible says the nation of Israel did whatever looked good to
them.
● Samson looked good and yet he died tragically.
● Israel lived that way, and they lived in captivity for many years till they were
completely dispersed throughout the nations of the Earth.

At the lowest point of His folly

Samson's life is now at the rock bottom. He is at life’s end. Frankly, his may not be a good resume
of how a young person can lead a godly life. Samson is at his lowest, this is as low as he could get
he cries out to God in the last moments of his life and the Lord hears him. From Dagon’s, (their
god’s temple), Samson prays. This is where they had taken him, blinded and bound. This was hell,
but God’s grace can reach down to which ever dungeon sin may have degraded you. Though his
eyes may not be given back to him, God’s forgiveness was there to reach him. But you know what,
despite all that Samson had disgracefully done, God was able to show His amazing Grace. He is a
God of Second Chances. Chapter 16: 22 shows exactly how the Lord came through for Samson.
Like Jonah, Samson called on the name of the Living God. From hell he cried out for grace and
mercy. The Bible says, “And the hair of his head began to grow.” This is the most beautiful picture
of Grace to every young person who feels that his or her life has gone with the wind. There is hope
for you. Revival and Reformation is God’s idea of giving you a new life. He can overthrow the
wicked forces that have held you captive for too long. Your hair can grow too! God’s mercies like
Samson's hair grows new every morning. His mercies persist even when our sin have hashed them
away.

Friends listen to me as I conclude. There are many things you cannot undo. Sin may have made a
mess of you and maybe it's already done so you cannot undo it; but you can repent to the Lord;
confess your sins and the Lord has promised to forgive and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
God is able to revive you again and renew your life and you can work with him and for him now.

Conclusion
It has often been remarked that in this age we are all little men. A hundred years ago, or more, if
we had gone through churches, we might have readily found a number of ministers of great note.
But now we are all little men, the driveling sons of nobodies; our names shall never be
remembered, for we do nothing to deserve it. There is scarce a man alive now upon this earth;
there are plenty to be found who call themselves men, but they are the husks of men, the life has
gone from them, the precious kernel seems to have departed. The littleness of Christians of this
age results from the littleness of their consecration to Christ.

Day 2 – Young Adults

If I Had Just listened to my mum and daddy........ Part 1

Scripture: Judges 14:1-16:1

Summary: If Samson would have listened to his mama and daddy, he would never have been
involved with a woman like Delilah.

Judges 14:1-3, Judges 16:18-21

Has there been a time in your life when you found yourself in bad situation you wished you had
never gotten yourself into? The situation you could have avoided altogether because you had no
business being involved in it in the first place. It was a situation with all the warning signs and all
the red flags waving before your very eyes, but you chose to ignore the signs and the red flag
warnings. And at the end of it, you found yourself saying:

“If I had just listened to mama and daddy…..”

“If I had just paid attention to what mama and daddy was trying to tell me back then……”
“If I had just listen to my pastor, teacher, friend etc……..”

“If I had just listened, I would not be in prison, I would not be broke and homeless, I would not
have dropped out of school or college, I would not have been pregnant out of wedlock, I would
not have been expelled out of school, I would not have been fired from my job……… If I had just
listened to mama and daddy………

You know the bible does tell us in Exodus 20:12 to “Honor thy father and mother that the days
may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. And in Ephesians 6;1-3 says,
“Children obey your parents in the Lord; for this is right. Honor thy father and mother, which is
the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee and thou mayest live long
upon the earth.“If I had just listen to mama and daddy………”

In this, we are going to learn if one had just listened to his father and mother; paid attention to
what mama and daddy were trying to tell him; if he had just done what they had told him to do, he
would have had a happy ending to his life. But instead he had a sad ending in his life story. And
this man Samson. Most of us know who he was. Samson was known to be one of Judges of Israel.
As a Judge, his main purpose was to deliver Israel out from the bondage of their enemies, which
was the Philistines at the time. Also he was known to be the strongest man to who ever lived. He
was a man who was endowed with extra ordinary strength. The reason why Samson had extra
ordinary strength and was so strong was because of the covenant he had with the Lord. Samson
was born as a Nazarite. And as a Nazarite, he was not to touch or drink wine, nor was he to have
his hair cut because God supplied Samson’s extra ordinary strength through his hair. And through
God gave Samson strength to kill a lion with is bare hands. Through his hair God gave Samson
strength to kill 30 Philistines all at once. Through his hair, God gave Samson strength to tie the
tails of 300 foxes and set them on fire to burn up the cornfields of the Philistines. Through his hair,
God gave Samson strength to kill a thousand of Philistines with just a jawbone of a donkey. Yes,
God blessed Samson with extra ordinary strength through his hair to defeat the Philistines.

But in Judges 16:21, we see Samson’s hair has been cut. His eyes has been gouged out. We see
Samson bound up in chains and in prison, and we see him walking the grind mill all day long in
the prison house. In other words, we see the strongest man who had ever lived defeated and
incapacitated. Now the question is, How did the strongest man to have ever lived find himself in a
defeated and incapacitated position?

Sometimes we blame Delilah for Samson’s demise because if he had not got involved with Delilah,
he would not have gotten his hair cut. He would not have lost his strength, and he would not have
been apprehended by the Philistines. But as we look at Samson’s situation, we realize that it was
Samson’s fault to find his eyes being gouged out, to find himself in prison. It was his fault to find
himself bound up in chain. It was his fault that he now finds himself grinding the grind mill walking
in circles all the day long. And the reason if he had just listened to his parents, he would not have
been involved with a woman like Delilah. Now it must be understood that Delilah was not the only
woman that Samson had been with. In Judges 14, Samson had married a woman from Timnah, but
that marriage ended up in divorce after seven days. Then Samson got involved with a prostitute in
Judges 16:1-3. And then we read that Samson got involved with Delilah in Judges 16:4. And you
would notice that all the women that Samson got involved in were all bad women. Yes, they looked
fine, but they were bad women. Yes, they smelled good in their perfume, but they were bad women.
They dressed real nice, but they were bad women. And Samson would never would have gotten
involved with these bad woman, if he would have just listened to his mama and daddy.

What are those things that your mentors including parents, spiritual leaders, teachers, leaders etc
are telling you to avoid which are not important in your life and may make you regret later? Do
you know of persons who are regretting now and wishing their days will be reversed to be able to
make informed decisions? What lessons have you learnt yourself to redefine your destiny today?

Read: Psalms 23:1-6 and enumerate things you want changed in your life and pray about them.

Day 3- Young Adults

If I Had Just Listen To Mama And Dady........ Part 2

Scripture: Judges 14:1-16:1

Summary: If Samson would have listened to his parents, he would never had married Delilah.

Samson problem was that he allowed lust to get the best of his judgment which caused him to get
involved with the wrong type of woman. This could not have been the case, if he had listened to
his parents. We learn from Judges 14; he was hardheaded and rebellious. One day in Judges 14,
Samson came home to his parents and told them that he had found a woman in a place called
Timnah that he wanted to marry. But the problem the woman was a Philistine, who were enemies
of Israel and they were people who did not worship the true and living God. When Samson told
his parents that he wanted to marry this Philistine woman that he had seen in the Philistine city
called Timnah, they responded by saying, Why did you have to go to Timanh to find a woman to
marry? There are some available women right here in your own city to marry. Don’t you know
that the Philistine women don’t worship the same God you? Don’t you know that women in
Timnah do not have a covenant relationship with God, and that they worship idol gods? Why do
you have to look for a woman to marry from Timnah?

There are some good women for you to choose to marry right in your own town. Why don’t you
pick someone of the same faith within your city to marry?

But Samson said, “I want that woman in Timnah because she pleases me looks good, smells good
and wears her clothes well. I want her and only her. And because Samson did not want to follow
the advice of his parents, notice what Judges 14:5 says. Samson went down and his father to
Timnah. Notice it says that “Samson went down.” .Then in Judges 16:4 it says that Samson loved
a woman in the Valley of Sorek, and in order to go to the Valley of Sorek or any valley for that
matter, you will find yourself going in a downward direction. And notice the direction that Samsom
took when he disregarded the advice of his parents. He went down. And anytime, you not to do
what your mama and daddy tells you to do, you will find yourself going down, down, and down.

Now notice something. When Samson tells his parents that he has found some woman in Timnah
that he wants to marry in Judges 14, there is at least four things that Samson fails to do. First when
he tells his parents that he wants to marry this woman he saw in Timnah, he did not even know the
woman’s name. Before you get serious about dating or marrying someone, at least know the
woman’s name. The same goes with the ladies…..at least know the man’s name before you even
think about going out and marrying someone.

Second thing that Samson’s doesn’t do with the woman in Timnah is that he doesn’t take time to
get to know her and family well. He doesn’t take time to know her friends well. And the result of
Samson not taking his time to know this woman and her background real well and not following
the advice of his parents, this marriage to the woman of Timnah only lasted seven days. The
marriage was so bad that Samson left his wife in anger and went home to live with his parents.
Now check this out. Samson leaves his wife, and goes back home to live with his parents. Now
that also tells us that Samson was not ready for marriage in the first place because when a man

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 84
gets married, he ought to be living in his own place, and paying his own bills. The bible does say
in Genesis:2:24 that when a man decides to get married, “he is to leave his father and mother and
cleave unto his wife and they shall be one flesh.” But Samson could have avoided this heartbreak
and this messy marriage with the woman in Timnah if he had just listened to his Parents and more
importantly to God’s voice.

Think about these things.

Read: Proverbs 10:1, 23:25, Psalm 103:13, Proverbs 3:11-12

Do you want a paradigm shift in your life, put them in prayer now and our God will deal with them
accordingly. Have faith in Him.

Day 4- Young Adults

If I Had Just Listen To Mama And Daddy........ Part 3

Scripture: Judges 14:1-16:1

Now it has been said that when one has been through a divorce or a breakup in a relationship, one
should chill out and not rush into another relationship right away. One should give themselves
time to heal before entering into another relationship. But we see Samson rushing into another
relationship without giving himself time to heal from his divorce. First, we see Samson messing
around with a prostitute in Judges 16:1-3. And then we see him in Judges 16:4 falling in love with
a woman named Delilah which gave him no time to heal from his previous relationship. And
because he does not take time to heal from his previous relationship, he continues to make the
same mistakes as he did with his first marriage all because he did not listen to mama and daddy.
So when he meets Delilah, he meets someone that he should have avoided at all cost because even
the scripture says he loved her, but she did not love him. As a matter of fact, she despised him.
Yes, she did not mind him taking her out for dinner, buying flowers for her, giving her kisses from
time to time. But she still did not love Samson. As a matter of fact, she wanted Samson dead
because he was defeating the Philistines, and making them look bad. And when the lords of the
Philistines offered Delilah lots of money to find out where Samson’s strength lies and how he can
be defeated, she did not hesitate to take up the offer.

Just because somebody smiles, laughs or even goes out with you, does not mean that the person is
really for you. Samson should have never been caught up with a woman like Delilah because she
too did not worship the Lord. She did not have a covenant relationship with the Lord. And the
bible says 2 Corinthians 6:14 says, “Be ye not unequally yoked with unbelievers; for what
fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with
darkness? This is what Samson’s mama and daddy was trying to tell him at first in Judges 14. They
were trying to tell him that since he was an anointed man of God, who worshipped God, who had
a covenant relationship with God, it is just fitting that he should marry someone who worship the
same God and was in the same covenant relationship with the same God. But Samson had a knack
for women who did not worship God, who did not have a covenant relationship with God, and it
brought a whole lot of mess into his life.

Copyright @ 2020. This document belongs to East Kenya Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Church. All rights reserved. 85
Now a question is asked: If it were wrong for Samson to be with the woman in Timnah, to be with
a prostitute (Delilah) how come Samson didn’t heed to God’s warning?

God did warn Samson about his bad relationship that he had a knack for. Firstly, God warned
Samson through his parents. Secondly, God warned Samson through the lion that tried to attack
him while he was on his way to meet the woman at Timnah. God warned Samson when things
were not going well in the marriage to the woman in Timnah. God warned Samson when he left
the prostitute in the middle of the night when he almost got captured by the Philistines to ambush
him. And last but not least, God warned Samson when Delilah kept trying to find out how he could
be weak like a natural man. Oh yes, God warned Samson about his knack for being in bad
relationships. But most of all God warned Samson through the Word of God, especially when the
Word of God was spoken by his parents.

In summary:

Psalms 119:9 says, “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according
to thy word.”

Proverbs 6:20-27 says, “My son, keep thy father’s commandment and forsake not the law of thy
mother. Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck. When thou goest, it
shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee, and when thou awakest, it shall talk with
thee. For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way
of life; to keep the from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. Lust
not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids. For by means of a
whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread, and the adultress will hunt for the precious
life. Can a man take fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals,
and his feet not be burned? The answer to that question is no. You will get burned and that is what
happened to Samson. He got burned in his bad relationships all because he did not listen to his
parents.

Just like Samson, who had to face the consequences of his actions for not listening to his parents
concerning the relationships he was courting, we too will experience consequences in our lives
when we go stray from God. But God is a forgiving God if we repent and seek His face and
abandon our waywardness. He will give us a second chance to do it right because He is plenteous
in mercy and his love is everlasting. That is why we need to have Jesus Christ in our lives, and we
need to stay in prayer and in His word so we can avoid getting involved in the wrong kind of
relationships that will bring us down and ruin our reputation.

Read: Hebrews 6:4-6, Psalm 51:10-12 and list those things you want to put before God so that
your life is reformed and revived.

Have a wonderful camp meetings filled with the Holy Spirit from God.

Day 5- Young Adults

HANGING OUT WITH GOD

Setting: Outdoor among the trees

Teaching Aids: Phones shut off, Prayer Mat and Bibles.
Activity: (Welcome) Ask the young adults to sit in a circle.
Leader(s) Note 1: Allow each member to introduce themselves, as they turn their phones off and
submit them to the middle of the circle; on the Prayer Mat.
Leader(s) Note 2: Ask them to explain how they would feel if they were in a conversation with
their friend and the friend would constantly look at their phones.

Introduce the Topic of the Day: HANGING OUT WITH GOD

Key Verses:
Daniel 6:10:
Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room,
where the windows opened towards Jerusalem. Three times a day, he got down on his knees and
prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.
Psalms 119:9 – 16: “How can a Young man keep his way pure?” How can we be revived and
reformed?
Ask each member to read one verse (from verse 9-16)
Explain the three themes that are common in the two verses above.
1. Constant prayer and devotion to God.
2. Meditating on God’s precepts.
3. Explain how the Israelites had to write the laws of God on the door posts of their houses
as a way of daily remembrance {Deuteronomy 11:20} (While seating in a circle, ask the
class to read Matthew 26:36 and Luke 5:16 Each member should read 1 verse and pass the
same bible to the next member)
4. Explain the divine and human nature of Jesus and why He had to pray daily even when he
could summon divine power into His command.
5. Explain how much more, as humans we need prayer and daily supplication.
6. Find out how the Holy Spirit came to the gathering at Antioch. Also Read John 14:15
7. Find out how the Apostles were to receive the comforter – only by keeping God’s
Commandments and by feeding daily on God’s word. Would God send them a helper?
8. Explain Genesis 3:8. How God saw it good to commune daily with Adam and Eve. Explain
the centrality of worship as a way of hanging out with God. An act of worship that requires
total commitment.
9. Ask members on ways they can avoid distraction during worship.
10. Ask them whether turning off their phones is an effective way of avoiding distraction
during worship.
11. Ask them how they can maintain their intimate walk with God in a social media century
amidst Coronavirus pandemic.
12. Highlight the advantages of a modern-day Christian walking with a hard-copy Bible as
opposed to an electronic Bible.
Re-read Daniel 6:10 – Explain that Daniel would constantly pray and did not begin praying when
the decree had been given.

PUBLISHING DEPARTMENT

LES PROMOTION

LITERATURE EVANGELISM AS AN EVANGELISTIC TOOL

One of the best ways of “Presenting Jesus Irresistibly” is with our literature! The Lord has
instituted a plan whereby every church member can have some part in ministering to others by
selling or giving away literature.

Why literature evangelism?

Primarily because it is an excellent example of global mission. Every time they enter a home, LEs
are reaching to an un-entered territory.
Not only do they sell books to families, but they pray in homes, visit, enrol their contacts in
correspondence study courses, give Bible studies, bring interested contacts to evangelistic
meetings and church services, and lead souls to Jesus and His church. LEs serve as pastoral
associates to make the whole church more effective.

The books they place in homes power to direct families to the cross. Countless stories abound of
those who have come to a relationship with Jesus and His church by first reading a book sold by
an LE. Furthermore, the fruit of their ministry is ongoing. Some respond immediately to what they
read and to others, a spiritual seed is planted that matures over a period of years.

Successful Soul-Saving Ministry—The canvassing work, properly conducted, is missionary

work of the highest order, and it is as good and successful method that can be employed for placing
before the people the important truths for this time. The importance of the work of the ministry is
unmistakable; but many who are hungry for the bread of life have not had the privilege of hearing
the Word from God's delegated preachers. For this reason it is essential that our publications be
widely circulated. Thus the message will go where the living preacher cannot go, and the attention

of many will be called to the important events connected with the closing scenes of this world's
history.
A Most Important Work—If there is one work more important than another, it is that of getting
our publications before the public, thus leading them to search the Scriptures. Missionary work—
introducing our publications into families, conversing, and praying with and for them—is a good
work, which will educate men and women to do pastoral labor. (CM 71)

Classes of Literature Evangelists

There are different categories in which we can participate in Literature Evangelism. These are:
1. Full-time Literature Evangelists:- These spend their entire life taking, selling literature,
and qualify as career literature evangelists.
2. Part-time Literature Evangelists:- This class comprises individuals who could be
engaged in other jobs but they secure some time to distribute literature.
3. Student LEs:- These are students in secondary schools, colleges, or universities who wish
to take part in mission work for evangelistic purposes. This enables them to get school fees
to finance their education.
4. Literature missionaries:- These take part in distribution of free tracts and missionary
books of the year.

When church members realize the importance of the circulation of our literature, they will
devote more time to this work. Papers, tracts, and books will be placed in the homes of the
people, to preach the gospel in their several lines.... The church must give her attention to the
canvassing work. This is one way in which she is to shine in the world. Then will she go forth
“fair as the moon, clear as the sun, and terrible as an army with banners.” (CM 72)
Canvassing for our publications is an important and most profitable line of evangelistic work.
Our publications can go to places where meetings cannot be held. In such places the faithful
evangelistic canvasser takes the place of the living preacher. By the canvassing work the truth
is presented to thousands who otherwise would never hear it. (CM 82)

A Call for Revived Interest—the importance of the canvassing work is kept ever before me.
This work has not of late had the life infused into it which was once given by the agents who
made it their specialty. Canvassers have been called from their evangelistic work to engage in
other labour. This is not as it should be. Many of our canvassers, if truly converted and
consecrated, can accomplish more in this line than in any other in bringing the truth for this
time before the people.
CALL:
We have no time to lose. Important work is before us, and if we are slothful servants we shall
certainly lose the heavenly reward. But few have broad and extensive views of what can be
done in reaching the people by personal, interested efforts in a wise distribution of our
publications. Many who will not be induced to listen to the truth presented by the living
preacher will take up a tract or a paper and peruse it; many things they read meet their ideas
exactly, and they become interested to read all it contains. (CM 83)
Who will answer and say, “here I am Lord send me?”. Remember that the coming of our Lord
is at hand.
