Conventional CO2 recovery units
The conventional CO2 recovery unit has been the standard for decades.
With permanent improvements it is still state-of-the-art and a sustainable solution.

• For regions with potable water shortage
• Supports customer’s sustainable water strategy CO2Scrub
• 5-10% surplus CO2 for soft drink bottling at site • Key element of all ECO2Brew
• Approved by Coca Cola • Installed at 25 other industrial gas sites
• No ammonia for a safer brewery • Excellent system for final CO2 polishing
• CO2 from cider production can be recovered • Replacement of water scrubber
• Superior CO2 quality improves shelf life time • Replacement of regenerative activated carbon
• Capacity range 1.000-3.000 kg/h • Tolerant for varying hydrocarbons in raw gas

Conclusion
During summer 2018 a shortage in raw CO2 caused serious problems for the
beverage industry. Innovative solutions are reachable short, medium and long
term:
• Low hanging fruits in solving the CO2 shortage periods include extended storage and
further utilization of biogas upgrading with the two value streams biomethane and
food-grade CO2
• CO2 from biogas has been approved for food & beverages by EIGA and is under
review by the ISBT
• Some countries (NL, UK, ...) have started using the biogas CO2
• As other raw gas sources are declining, on-site investments offer the most stable
CO2 supply
• Technologies for all sizes of breweries and soft drink bottlers are available
• Looking ahead, new and environmental conscious solutions are coming up –
however the technical and commercial feasibility is still uncertain
