Introduction
Attention Getter:
Thesis Statement: Today my intention is to inform my audience of six ways on how to grow
potted organic plants. I will discuss the type of container needed, the potting mix, fertilizer,
purchasing plants, seeds, and microbial inoculants.
Body:
I. Containers will hold and grow your plant. You can be creative and show your since of style.

A. With any potted plant, size really does matter.


1. It's very important to have room needed for the plant to grow.
2. Plastic is more practical and cheaper.
3. Be creative and use anything that will hold soil well and drain properly.

I. Traditional soil mix and soilless potting mix can be used to grow organic potted plants.

A. There are two types of potting mix.
1. Soilless potting mix looks like soil but only Contains organic matter. Examples
are peat, wood chips, perlite and or vermiculite.
2.Soiless mix never contain sand or clay which can prevent your plants from
growing healthy.
3. Traditional Soil can be organic
4. Test your soil! This will help in determining what fertilizer you may need.
(I just discussed different containers and pot mix, now we will discuss fertilizer)

lll. Soil may contain fertilizer, or you may add your own. Choies include Dry or liquid.

A. Dry fertilizer is usually mixed into the soil. Dry fertilizer encourages long-term
growth. Used for already growing plants. Dry/Liquid Fertilizer
1. Different type of fertilizers include, naturally occurring fertilizer
2. Compost, Manure, Worm Castings.
3. Manufactured organic fertilizer which includes bone meal, fish meal and blood
meal.

IV. Purchasing organic plant/ seeds can be done by ordering through Amazon or buying
traditionally through nurseries

A. Federal Organic standards. What makes it organic.


1. Excludes use of synthetic pesticides
2. Genetically modified or GMO technologies
3. The land in which the seeds are grown takes 3 years to be certified.
4. You can use non-organic seeds to grow organically and produce a organic
plant.

(I just discussed fertilizer and purchasing plants and seeds, now we will discuss microbial
inoculants)

V. Microbial inoculants are used in place of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

Conclusion
Today my intention was to inform my audience of six ways to grow potted organic plants. I
discussed the type of container needed, potting mix including fertilizer, purchasing plants, seeds,
and microbial inoculants.
