4 Inch Type Printheads

Startup, Swabbing, and Incident Recovery
The Following procedures and operating tips are for clarification or for changes and
additions to the operator’s manual.

(For inks that do not require special procedures)

Starting a printhead:

1. For printheads that have been shutdown for less than one week. Select Long Clean, when the clean cycle is
complete select Ready.

2. If you have just installed a printhead or if the printhead has been shutdown for a week or more, select Install
Clean, when the clean cycle is complete select Ready..

3. NOTE: If a charge short occurs during startup use the following sequence.

First time: Allow one auto-recover cycle

Second time: Select Service Clean and let cycle complete
Select Ready
Third time: Select Clean, remove eyelid and attach catch pan
Select Step to Ready observe jets at the end of state 12, if crooked
jets are observed proceed to swab procedure, otherwise continue step to ready.

Swab Procedure:

First time: Select Service Clean

Saturate foam swab with ink during first weep
Swab printhead during first weep
Select Step to Ready (after service clean is complete) observe jets at the end of state 12, if
crooked jets are observed go to Second time, otherwise continue step to ready.
Second time: Saturate foam swab with 1014 Replenisher 0173479
Select Service Clean
Swab printhead during state 0 (you may re-wet swab two or three times)
Select Step to Ready (after service clean is complete) observe jets at the end of state 12, if
crooked jets are observed, go to Third time, otherwise continue step to ready.
Third time: Repeat (Second time:) steps above
Forth time: Repeat (Second time:) steps above

Only recommended foam swabs that are clean should be used. Do not reuse foam swabs.

Charge Short, Streaker, Crooked Jet and other Jet Straightness Problems

First time: Select Service Clean

Select Ready
Second time: Select Clean
Remove eyelid Attach catch pan
Select Step to Ready observe jets at the end of state 12, if crooked jets are observed proceed to
swab procedure, otherwise continue step to ready
