Abstract
Antibiotics have been utilized for human
therapy and farming production for
several decades. Unfortunately, the
large quantity of antibiotics released
from the human or animal body without
degradation has led to the
contamination of various habitats, such
as river water and soil. Consequently,
the variable concentration of antibiotics
in different ecosystems can affect the
structure and productivity of the
microbiota that inhabits these
environments. This can lead to changes
in the overall population structure,
selection of resistant organisms, or
alterations in bacterial physiology. This
review delves into the available
information on how the presence of
antibiotics can affect the microbiota and
the resulting consequences of these
changes.
