Adolescent Emotional Spectrum Scale (AESS)

SET 1
Instructions:
Read the statements and plot an x on the grid that closely represents how you feel. The
further you mark from the centre and towards the corners represents strong feelings and
towards the sides and centre represents lesser feelings. 0 meaning low intensity of the
emotions in the corners and 3 meaning the highest intensity of the same.
For example, for a statement you want to mark ‘angry’ for, makes you feel 2 on the scale of
confused-angry and 1 on the scale of surprised-angry, your plot points will look something
like this:

There are no right or wrong answers. Respond based on the first emotion you believe you
will feel after reading the statement. Please only mark inside or on the grid borders

1. Your favourite cricket team wins a match against their biggest rival.
2. Your best friend moves to a different city, and you'll no longer see them every day.

3. You're blamed for something you didn't do, and no one believes your side of the story.
4. You're home alone at night, and you hear strange noises coming from the attic.

5. You see a stranger smile warmly at you on the street.


6. Your pet cat passed away after being with your family for many years.

7. Your parents surprise you by taking you out for dinner to your favourite restaurant.
8. You hear shrills coming from inside the horror house when you are about to go in next.

9. You're chosen to give a speech in front of the whole school unprepared


10. Your teacher punishes you for something another student did.

Instructions:
Read the statements and plot an x on the grid that closely represents how you feel. The

9. Your favourite TV show gets cancelled, and there are no plans for a new season.

10. You're on a roller coaster ride, and it suddenly stops midway at the highest point.
