HOMEWORK CEMENTING DESIGN OPERATION

Intermediate Casing of your well must be cemented with a one-stage cement operation. Appropriate
calculations must be made before the operation. Details of the operation are as follows:

FILL YOUR WELL DATA ON THE BLANK SECTION

SURFACE CASING

Surface Casing shoe @ 7,800 ft

TOC: 3000 ft above shoe: ….. ft

(…………ft3/ft)

INTERMEDIATE CASING

Shoetrack length: 60 ft
Intermediate Casing shoe = TD – L. Rathole 3
Shoe
Rat track volume (…………ft /ft)
Rathole length: 10 ft
Rat
Intermediate Section TD @ 13,060
ft Rathole volume (…………ft3/ft)
Rat
• TOC outside 9 5/8" casing: casing 3000’ above shoe
Rat
• Assume gauge hole, add 20% excess in the open hole

The casing must be cemented with class G cement with the following additives:

• 0.2% D13R (retarder)

• 1% D65 (friction absorbers)

• Slurry density = 15.9 ppg

Calculate:

a. Total Slurry requirements (ft3)

b. Total sack of cement (sack)
c. Total amount of water (bbls)
d. Total sacks of D13R additives (sack)
e. Total sacks of D65 additives (sack)
f. Total displacement volume (bbls)
g. Total time to pump the slurry (if the pump rate is 5 bbls/min)
h. Total time to pump the displacement mud (if the pump rate is 8 bbls/min)
i. Calculate minimum thickening time (hrs)

1 bbl = 5.6 ft3
