Review of Smart Health Monitoring Approaches With Survey

Analysis and Proposed Framework
Abstract
• Smart health monitoring system technologies pertaining to the biomedical
domain has evinced intense interest, which in turn has led the emphasis
on unconventional applications of engineering and internetwork
transmission in the field.
• Throughout the next series of textual and contextual matter, we will be
reviewing and exhibiting, such initiatives and established methods which
are being used to achieve health monitoring systems approaching toward
making smart remote villages and cities.
• It also collates for the reader the issues and challenges prevalent in the
present technical advancements and for societal validation, a survey
analysis has also been briefed in this paper to show the demand and
requisites of the real world in health monitoring system.
• Today there is a need for an integrated solution which can diagnose the
early cyanotic congenital diseases in newly born babies to monitoring of
various geriatric problems in elderly people.

INTRODUCTION
• ENGINEERING collaboration in the biomedical field has not only enhanced
our understanding of medicine but also resulted in the development of
newer technologies toward the diagnosis, management, and treatment of
diseases. The current medical monitoring/diagnostic systems are based on
various technologies, broadly classified under ubiquitous applications of
computing solutions, wearable continuous monitoring devices, secure
remote monitoring and sensing nodes .
• Decision support system with alert feedback in such monitoring systems is
increasing with each passing day. These technological advancements can
be used as a major intervention tool toward reduction in morbidity and
mortality patterns.
• Cases of cardiovascular diseases are escalating rapidly and have been
reported as one of the major causes of death globally.
• WHO states that approximately 17.7 million people died because of CVDs
in 2012 constituting 31% of all deaths globally .
• Timely intervention can make a huge difference in the survival.
• Similarly, Congenital heart diseases (CHDs) account for 6%–10% of all the
infant deaths and 20%–40% of all infant deaths from malformations
globally .
• A status report on CHD presents that approximately 1 80 000 neonates are
born with CHD every year in India out of which 60 000–90 000 suffer from
CHD needing absolute early interventions. In absence of an early diagnosis
most of them account for the huge Infant mortality rate.
• CHD alone accounts for nearly 10% of infant mortality in India.
SURVEY A NALYSIS AND S OCIETAL VALIDATION
• Eliminating only issues and challenges in present technolo-
gies will not meet the real need. Todays’ societal
requirements should also be considered.
• So, to understand the real-time societal need, a survey
questionnaire has been conducted which states that the
statistical shreds of evidence in making use of such
technologies.
• This survey concluded from183 valid-independent entries
collected from various regions leads us to frequency
statistics of different parameters under consideration.
• The survey conducted on the extent of access to
physiological parameters on mobile phone devices shows
73.7% of people want their physiological information
calculated on mobile phone out of which 40.4% of people
already accede to the idea of accessing data and harnessing
it and the other 33.3% of the same to have no problem in
accessing data on mobile, i.e., probably yes condition.
• Fig. 3 shows the analysis of records for usage of a mobile
phone in accessing parameters concluding toward the
increasing trend of the handheld devicein the healthcare
industry.

APROPOSED APPROACH
• The proposed approach implements the design considera-
tions and all the key aspects observed during survey analysis
to present a solution framework in order to achieve the goals
discussed earlier.
Fig. 5 shows the full system dissection with complete
functioning blocks of the unit. The basic design functionality of
the system is broadly divided into different sections.
1) Real time data extraction and monitoring station.
2) Wireless communication controller.
3) Remote advisory and decision support station.
4) Remote information repository.
5) Remote feedback module.

VI. C ONCLUSION
This review has attempted to present newer framework
that shall revolutionizing the concept of smart health mon
itoring system. This paper also reported various challenges
present toward making smart health monitoring approach. It
elaborated on the contribution of various leading technologies
like the smartphone, IoT, etc. along with their usage
in future toward making the ubiquitous monitoring.
