city

San Fernando City is a 1st class component

city and capital of the province of
Pampanga. This city was founded in 1754
and named after King Ferdinand VI of
Spain. The city is located in the Pampanga
metropolitan area and is known as Metro
Clark or Metro Angeles. This area is
regarded as Central Luzon's industrial and
residential heartland. Also, this city is
popularly known as the "Christmas Capital
of the Philippines."

Here are two main features of this city:

1. Industrial Hub: San Fernando, with a
strong manufacturing sector, is a primary
industrial hub in the region. It is one of the
agricultural processing centers of Central
Luzon and a major rice-producing and
sugar-producing area. It is home to various
manufacturing establishments, including
electronic goods, agricultural products, and textile mills. Universal Robina, Zuellig
Pharma, Nestlé Philippines, Petrophil, Mondragon Industries, JBTEC Flavors and Blends
Inc., Del Monte Corporation, and Asia Brewery are a few more manufacturing
businesses with offices in the city. The city is home to manufacturing for well-known
food and beverage brands like Pampanga's Best, Coca-Cola, Pepsi Cola, and San
Miguel Corporation. San Fernando, the provincial capital of Pampanga, is also home to
regional offices of various Philippine government agencies. This industrial activity
significantly boosts The city's economy, providing job opportunities for locals. In
addition, the city's advantageous location and technologically advanced facilities make
it desirable for enterprises seeking to establish offices. San Fernando's economic
growth is further strengthened because it draws investment.

State 1 issue or concern that your chosen city is currently experiencing then
provide a brief background of the problem (you may cite an article or personal
experience).

San Fernando being the capital of Pampanga only means one thing, it attracts a
significant influx of tourists and migrants, leading to severe traffic congestion.
According to a survey conducted by CPOSCO, approximately 7,000 vehicles navigate
the JASA route daily. Despite resembling EDSA in photographs, these traffic woes are
actually situated in San Fernando, particularly along the route to SM Pampanga and
the bustling business district in Barangay Dolores. Mayor Caluag has acknowledged the
issue and assured the public that short-term solutions, such as route adjustments and
limitations on truck traffic, are being devised. Additionally, CPOSCO has recommended
to the DPWH the implementation of vertical clearances at the entry points of the two
steel flyovers to alleviate congestion further. To foster sustainable development, Mayor
Caluag's administration is also considering the integration of eco-friendly
transportation options and the promotion of alternative routes for commuters.

Provide at least one recommendation to mitigate or solve the challenges by

integrating some of the solutions presented during the discussion.

One recommendation to mitigate or solve this is by enhancing public transportation.

By having more high-capacity vehicles like buses and trains that can cater a big group
of people, it becomes feasible to substantially decrease the volume of private cars on
the roads. It is also recommended to increase the cost of private vehicles, which will
push people to avoid buying one and free up space for other modes of transportation.
This will not only resolve the problem of traffic but will also help reduce pollution that is
affecting our environment
