Food Service Guidelines Work Plan:

For The Charitable Food System

Goal

1. Improve food and nutrition security for customers of the charitable food system
through the provision of foods that are consistent with the most current Dietary
Guidelines for Americans.
2. Increase customer awareness of nutritional value of foods distributed or served
through the charitable food system
Objective

1.1 All charitable food systems will comply with the Healthy Eating Research (HER)
Nutrition Guidelines for the Charitable Food System within 5 years
1.2 Food pantries and distributive meal programs will develop and sustain a
partnership with community food bank
2.1 All customers will become aware of healthy food choices and or preparation
method for foods distributed or served by the charitable food system

Strategy

1.1.1 Adopt and implement the HER nutrition guidelines for charitable food systems
1.1.2 Become or maintain membership with the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank
2.1.1 implement a nutrition ranking system such as Supporting Wellness at Pantries
(SWAP) and or Feeding America’s Foods to Encourage (F2E)
2.1.2 Create and distribute standardized recipes for foods commonly distributed that
provide customers with balanced meals
2.1.3 Develop comprehensive menu cycle with nutrition information for meals served
