History of pesticides

 Pesticides is not a new invention.


 Many ancient civilians used pesticides to protect their plants from insect and pests.
 Ancient Sumerians used elemental sulphur to protect their crop from insects.
 Medieval farmer experimented with chemical using arsenic ( a naturally occurring
substance that can be found in air ,water and soil ).
 The Chinese used arsenic and mercury compound to control body lise and other pest.
 In 1939, dichloro-diphenyl-trichloroethane ( DDT ) was discovered, which has become
extremely effective and rapidly used as the insecticide in the world.
What is pesticide ?

 A pesticide is a substance or a mixture of substance that


prevent from destroying of crops from pests and insects.
 A pesticide can be a insect , plant , pathogen , weed ,
bacteria , Bird, etc.
 A pesticide can be a chemical , biological agent ,
antimicrobial , disinfectant , etc.
 Many of the pesticides are poisonous to humans and
animals.

Benefit of pesticide:
One of the major advantages of pesticide is it protects crops from insect and pests.
 It controls plant diseases.
 It controls the organism which harm the crop.
Effects of pesticide:
 It is made up of toxic chemicals which affects the environment and surrounding.
 By using more amount of pesticide the soil can lose its own fertility.
 Usage of more amount of pesticide is human health hazard which leads to cancer sometime.
