Queen of Pop, Madonna, has been facing major backlash for her looks in the 2023 Grammy
Awards. A picture of Madonna has surfaced while she was introducing Sam Smith and Kim
Petras’ performance of “Unholy” and clearly took is personally, Madonna went to social media
to express her frustration and said this: “Instead of focusing on what I said in my speech which
was about giving thanks for the fearlessness of artists like Sam and Kim—Many people chose
to only talk about close-up photos of me taken with a long lens camera by a press
photographer that would distort anyone’s face!!”. She then went on to explain how she was
once again caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny that permeates the world, we live in.
The brutal backlash she’s received is due to a cosmetic procedure she underwent in her 40s that
happened quite a while ago, but she’s not alone facing this type of judgement.
