OROPON® DVP – Bating agent for the acid bate Edition 2009

Features OROPON® DVP is based on proteolytic enzymes.

OROPON® DVP is active between pH 4 and 6.

Handling & storage:

Wear gloves and face mask during handling. CLOSE SACK TIGHTLY AFTER USE AND
STORE IN A DRY PLACE.
Can be stored for about 2 years (from date of production) if kept in a dry place and
protected from heat above 30°C.

Benefits OROPON® DVP is used for combination bating and bating of pickled pelts, as well as
enzymatic slackening of wet-blues and vegetablesynthetic crust leathers.

OROPON® DVP gives a more elastic-grain without the tendency of loose grain.

OROPON® DVP slackens hide structure gently without causing an excessive

decomposition of the flanks.

OROPON® DVP improves the feel, the evenness of colour and the fineness of the
grain.

Application a)combination bating:

After alkaline bating, e. g. with OROPON® OR, acid bating is performed in the pickle
float using OROPON® DVP. The product is added at the start of pickling and run 10 -
15 minutes together with the pickle salt before formic acid is introduced for
acidifying to pH 4.0 - 6.0. The treatment period depends on the desired degree of
slackening. For treatments within 2 - 3 hours, 2.0 - 4.0 % OROPON® DVP is added, if
treatment continues for 12 - 15 hours, the dose should be 1.5 - 2.0 %.

An even, gentle bating effect is achieved at a working temperature of 24 - 26 °C.

Temperatures of 28 °C should not be exceeded to avoid acid hydrolysis.

Once bating is completed, more acid is added to adjust the desired pH of the pickle
prior to tanning, which occurs in the same bath.

b) pickled pelts:
When processing pickled pelts, which were insufficiently limed and bated in the
country of origin, the desired opening up of the hide stucture can be achieved by
rebating in the acid pH range. This process also eliminates wrinkles caused by
prolonged storage and incipient drying. The quantity of OROPON® DVP to be used
is based on pickled weight. If the material is already somewhat dry, this quantity
has to be raised by 30 - 50 %. In the case of very fatty pickled pelts, we recommend
a degreasing bath, with e.g. BORRON® , before acid bating in a fresh float.

OROPON® DVP – Bating agent for the acid bate

Adjust the float with common salt to 5° Bé, add the pickled skins and then a mild
alkali to achieve a pH 4.0- 6.0. Use 3.0 - 5.0 % OROPON DVP for treatments within 2
to 3 hours and 2.0 - 3.0 % for 12 to 15 hours.

The bating process being completed, tannage can be performed in the same bath,
paying due attention to the required pH value.

c) wet-blues and vegetable-synthetic crust leathers:

These semi-finished materials can be enzymatically slackened by means of
OROPON® DVP and their desired properties thereby noticeably improved. Prior to
enzymatic treatment, make sure that the material is adequately detanned and
wash thoroughly afterwards. The float should have a pH of 4.0 to 6.0 during the
process. Use 3.0 to 5.0 % OROPON® DVP for sufficient slackening within 12 to 15
hours. At the beginning, run for 1 to 2 hours, then set to automatic movement at
regular intervals.

Trade form at 20°C powder

Appearance at 20°C beige powder

pH-value (10%) approx. 7
