Gatsby’s actions and words towards Tom are risky because
of the tension that they have. Gatsby’s words reveal his
feelings for Daisy, which would make Tom mad as Daisy’s
husband.
This scene says that the dynamic between new and old
money is complicated. The two social groups compete to
be more powerful and wealthy. However, Gatsby inviting
Tom to his house could also be considered an effort to
make peace.
At Gatsby’s party, there were lots of fancy decorations and
