5 METHODS OF TEST.

5.2.1 The overall length of the specimenshall be measured

54.2 Studs. One end of the stud shall be assembledin a


threadedfixture to the threadrunout. For studshaving unlike
threads,this shall be the end with the finer pitch thread.For
studsof unlike diameters,the end with smallerdiametershall

thus leaving six co:mpletethreadsexposedbetweenthe grips,
as illustratedin Figure 4. The angleof the wedgefor the stud
size and gradeshall,be as specifiedin Table4. The stud shall
be assembledin the testingmachineand tensiletestedto fail-
ure, as describedin 5.3.

5.4.2.1 The minimum hardnessof the threadedwedge shall


be HRC 45. The length of the threadedsectionof the wedge
shall be equalto the diameterof the stud.To facilitateremoval
of the broken stud, the wedge shall be counterbored.The
thicknessof the wedgeat the thin side of the hole shall equal
the diameterof the stud plus the depth of counterbore.The
