Paragraph: A paragraph is a brief piece of writing that's around seven to ten sentences long.

The paragraph form refers to a group of sentences focusing on a single topic.


OR
A piece of writing that deal with single theme is called paragraph.

Elements of a paragraph:
 Topic sentence.
 Supporting details.
 Concluding sentence.

Topic sentence: A sentence that express the main idea of a paragraph is called topic
sentence. The topic sentence is usually first, but could be in any position in a Paragraph. A topic
sentence is usually more general than the other sentences that is, it talks about many things
and looks at a big picture.

Supporting details: Sentence that explain or support the topic sentence is called supporting
details. The are three to four sentences.

Concluding sentence: This is the last sentence of a paragraph. This sentence close the
discussion. This sentence also provide the thematic expression of the paragraph.

 It reminds us about topic sentence.


 It repeats the main idea but in different words.
 It doesn’t give the new details.

Example: The doctor is a person who looks after the sick people and prescribes medicines so
that the patient recovers fast. In order to become a doctor, a person has to study medicine.
Doctors lead a hard life. Their life is very busy. They get up early in the morning and go to the
hospital. They work without taking a break. They always remain polite so that patients feel
comfortable with them. Since doctors work so hard we must realize their value.
