Practice Problems

Magnetic Circuits

1. Consider the toroidal magnetic core shown

below, with r1=3.5 cm, r2=4 cm, height of 1 cm and
-6 2
cross sectional area of the core A = 50 x 10 m .
Assume µ = 2000µo and B = 0.3 T. Determine (i)
maximum core flux, (ii) mmf required to produce
this flux, and (iii) number of turns that must be
wound if the coil must carry 10 mA current.

4. Consider a three-legged magnetic structure

shown below made of material with µ = 3000µo.
Winding of N turns is placed at the centre leg and
an air gap of width lg is made in the right leg with

electric circuit and determine the flux.
2. Determine the current I required to establish the
indicated flux in the core.

[Ans: Φ =0.62 mWb]

[Ans: I = 4.49 A]

3. Compute the equivalent reluctance of the

magnetic circuit shown below and the flux density
