Project Title
An investigation into the consumption of water and
sugar sweetened beverages between the students
in forms 5A1 and 5A2.
Introduction:
Non communicable diseases (NCD’s) are diseases
that do not pass from person to person. NCD’s are
also known as chronic diseases. Some examples of
NCD’s are diabetes, hypertension, strokes and heart
disease. The reason people get NCD’s is because of
their poor dietary practices and high consumption
of sugar sweetened beverages.
The National Nutritional Centre (NCC) is an agency
run by the Ministry of health and wellness to
promote good nutrition practices in Barbados. The
Ministry of Education (MOE) made a healthy
initiative plan. The purpose of the plan is to reduce
the number of sugary beverages consumed by
students.
The purpose for this SBA is to analyze the amount
the sugar sweetened beverages by the fifth form
students.
Method of Data Collection:
A google form survey was created and was given
out to the fifth form year group. The aim of the
survey was to find out the type and quality of
beverages in order to promote healthy dietary
practices.
One hundred and twelve fifth formers answered the
survey in a period of two days.
The beverages that were used in the survey are
water, flavoured water, fruit juice, soft drink and
energy drinks.
My group would be organizing the results for
form 5A1 and 5A2.
