REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

Related Literature

The good academic performance of students at the Senior High School is of paramount importance
in every educational system. Meanwhile, numerous factors influence the academic performance of
students and have been researched, but many problem persist. A literature review in this and would
provide the gaps and areas that need more research and will go a long way to curb the situation.

According to BREW (2021), students who are above average academically and are positively
exposed to these factors are likely to perform better as compared to those who are less exposed such
as truancy, parental levels of education and income, textbooks availability and accessibility, libraries,
meals provision and teachers should be regularly monitored and adjusted to meet students needs and
aspirations. This will go a long way to improve the academic performance of students and hence allow
them to achieve their aims in life.

According to RADETIC-DAIC (2020) if there are differences in the factors of students family
resilience regarding the level of their families income. Two additional hypothesis have also been
tasted, concerning influence of income level on students expression of problems and difficulties to
family members and on religiousty. The study has been done on sample of students from the Faculty
of Educational Sciences of the Juvaj Dobrila University of Pula,Cvoatioa. The results have shown that
students from families with no income or below average income, are likely forbidden to show certain
emotions in their family. MACHEBE (2017), The socioeconomic status of a child parents impact on the
educational development and achievement of the child. This study evaluated the effect of
socioeconomic status specifically parents income and parents child relationship on students academic
performance in senior High School students.

According to international labor organization (2003),part time job is form of employment that
carries favor hours per week than full time job. Workers are considered to be part time if they
commonly work fewer than 30 or 35 hours per week. When it come to the length of time spent in part
time job, different countries have different amount of working hours than the full time counterpart
within a specific industry and mostly the time worked less than 32 hours per week.

The study examines the relationship between family income and the academic performance of
Senior High School students in Sominot. The study focuses on the sources of family income,
expenditure patterns of students on campus and students performance and investigation of part time
job. A good number of students respondents indicate that low family income does not necessarily
lower their academic achievement. The study concludes financial status of families, parents and
students academic performance must be a shared responsibility for the purpose of mutual benefits in
the future.
