PRIEST: This is eternal life: to know the true God and the one
He
sent, Jesus Christ. God raised him from the dead to be the
Lord of life and of all things, seen and unseen. In asking
for Baptism today you ask for this life. You would not do
so unless you had come to know Christ and wanted to be
his disciple.
Have you completed your preparation for becoming a
Christian?

CANDIDATE : I HAVE

PRIEST : Have you listened to Christ’s word and made up

your mind to keep his commandments?

PRIEST : Have you shared in our way of life and in our

prayer?

PRIEST : (To the Godparents), Do you think in sincerity

before God that this candidate is worthy to be admitted to the
Sacraments of Christian Initiation?

PRIEST : You have spoken in this candidate’s favor. Will you
continue to help him/her to serve Christ by your word and
example?

PRIEST : Let us pray

Father of love and mercy, we thank you in the
name of our brother/sister N. who has experienced
your guiding presence in his/her life. Today, in the
presence of your Church, he/she is answering your
call to faith: let him/her find joy and fulfillment in
his/her new life. We ask this through Christ our
Lord

PRAYER OF EXORCISM

PRIEST : Almighty God, you sent your only Son to rescue us

from the slavery of sin and to give us the freedom only your
sons and daughters enjoy. We now pray for N. who will have to
face the world with its temptations and fight the devil in all his
cunning.

Your Son died and rose again to save us. By his victory over sin
and death, bring (him/her) out of the power of darkness.
Strengthen (him/her) at every step-in life’s journey. We ask this
through Christ our Lord.

PRIEST : May you have strength in the power of Christ our

Savior, who lives and reigns forever and ever.

CEREMONY OF BAPTISM
PRIEST : Dear friends, let us invoke the mercy of God
Almighty for N. who is asking for baptism. He has called
(him/her) and brought (him/her) at this hour. May he enlighten
(him/her) and encourage (him/her) so that (he/she) may belong
steadfast to Christ and profess the faith of Christ and profess
the faith of the Church May he give (him/her) the newness of
life in the Holy Spirit.
RENUNCIATION AND PROFESSION OF FAITH
PRIEST : Do you renounce Satan and all his works and all
his empty promises?
CANDIDATE : I DO
PRIEST : Do you believe in God, the Father almighty Creator
of heaven and earth?
CANDIDATE : I DO
PRIEST : Do you believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our
Lord, who was born of the Virgin Mary, was crucified, died and
was buried rose from the dead and is now seated at the right
hand of the Father?
CANDIDATE : I DO
PRIEST : Do you believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic
Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sin, the
resurrection of the body and life everlasting?

RITE OF BAPTISM
PRIEST : N. I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of
the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
ANOINTING WITH CHRISM
PRIEST : God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ has freed
you from sin, given you a new birth by water and the Holy
Spirit, and welcomed you into his holy people. He anoints you
now with the Chrism of Salvation. As Christ was anointed Priest,
Prophet and King, so may you live always as member of His
body, sharing everlasting life.

IMPOSITION OF WHITE CLOTH

PRIEST : N. you have become a new creation and have

been clothed yourself in Christ, receive this garment, keep it
without stain before the tribunal of our Lord Jesus Christ and
may you receive everlasting life in heaven.

LIGHTING OF CANDLE

PRIEST : Godparents, please come forward to give the

newly baptized the light of Christ
N. You become light in Christ. May you always walk in the light
of Christ, persevere in your faith, and with all the saints in
heaven, meet Christ when he will come.

RITE OF CONFIRMATION
PRIEST : On the day of Pentecost, the apostles received the
Holy Spirit as the Lord has promised. They also received the
power of giving the Holy Spirit to others and so completing the
work of baptism. This we read in the Acts of the Apostles. When
Saint Paul baptized, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they
began to speak in other languages and in prophetic words.
Bishops are successors of the apostles and have the
power of giving the Holy Spirit to the baptized, either
personally or through the priests they appoint.
In our days the coming of the Holy Spirit in confirmation is no
longer marked by the gift of tongues, but we know his coming
by faith. He fills our hearts with the love of God, different
vocations, and works within us to make the church one and
holy.
The gift of the Holy Spirit, which you are to receive will be a
spiritual sign and seal to make you more like Christ and more
perfect members of his Church. At his baptism by John, Christ
himself was anointed by the Spirit and sent out on his public
ministry to set the world on fire.
You have already been baptized into Christ and now you will
receive the power of his Spirit and the sign of the cross on your
forehead. You must be witness/es before all the world to his
suffering, death, and resurrection, your way of life you should at
all times reflect the goodness of Christ. Christ gives varied gifts
to his Church, and the Spirit distributes them among the
members of Christ’s body to build up the holy people of God in
unity and love.

Be active member/s of the Church, alive in Jesus Christ. Under

the guidance of the Holy Spirit give your (life/lives) completely
in the service of all, as did Christ, who came not to be served
but to serve.

LAYING OF HANDS
PRIEST : My dear friends, in baptism God our Father gave
the new birth of eternal life to his chosen
(son/daughter/children). Let us pray to our Father that he will
pour out the Holy Spirit to strengthen his
(son/daughter/children) with his gifts and anoint
(him/her/them) to be more like Christ the Son of God.

ALL PRAY IN SILENCE

PRIEST : All powerful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
by water and the Holy Spirit you freed your
(son/daughter/children) from sin and gave (him/her/them) new
life.
Send your Holy Spirit upon (him/her/them) to be (his/her/their)
helper and guide. Give (him/her/them) the spirit of wisdom and
understanding, the spirit of right judgment and courage, the
spirit of knowledge and reverence. Fill (him/her/them) with the
spirit of wonder and awe in your presence. We ask this through
Christ our Lord.

ANOINTING WITH CHRISM

(Priest dips his right thumb in the chrism and makes the sign of the cross on the forehead of the
one to be confirmed as he says,)

PRIEST : N. be sealed with the gift the gifts of the Holy

Spirit.
