Refresh Guide
We know how important it is for you to have a device that operates at peak
performance. For a better experience, we’ve introduced a remote solution that
enables a self-service rebuild to the latest version of Windows that provides new
features and performance improvements.

What do I need to do?

• Download and read this guide to understand the process. Keep a copy of the guide on a device that you can access during
the rebuild, in case you need to refer to it.
• Launch the shortcut manually from the start menu or when you see the Windows Refresh Pop-Up, click the ’Start Windows
Refresh’ button to start the process.
• Wait for the download to complete.
• Complete the Windows Refresh process, which rebuilds your device.
• If possible, we suggest you do this at home at the end of the working day or over a weekend for the least amount of work
interruption.

To ensure your device will build:

• The device must be connected to the internet and the process must start and finish on the same network. Do not start/stop
and move the device between office/home networks or the refresh will fail.
• The device must be connected to a Power Supply

Please note, the build time can vary depending on your bandwidth speed, PC performance and the number of user assigned
applications, but may take 4 hours or longer. You can leave your device whilst it is building and don’t worry if it locks during the
build process, you can simply unlock it using your Unilever credentials.
Windows Refresh Guide: Initiating the process

BEFORE YOU GET STARTED

Please note:
• Ensure that your data is in OneDrive and that it has fully synced your data to the cloud. Lookout for the cloud icon at the bottom right of your system. If your
data is not synced, you will see a red cross next to the cloud. Click on the icon to see the issues on why a particular file is not synced and take relevant actions.
Please be aware that the contents of Temp folder, Downloads folder and other folders not within the OneDrive folder will not be restored.
• Verify that MFA is correctly configured with at least two authentication methods via https://mypassword.unilever.com
• We will automatically transfer your data, most settings and install your assigned applications as part of the Windows Refresh process. However, any manually
installed or non-assigned applications will need to be requested via UNA and you may need to reset some settings, i.e. default search engine, paired Bluetooth
devices, display configurations, etc.
• Ensure that you have connected your device to a power supply and have an internet connection. If you are a laptop user unplug from monitors, external
keyboards, docking stations, etc. and complete the refresh with only the power cord (and network cable if used) plugged in.
• If you use Chrome, then export your Bookmarks. Back up any Data Connections you have in Excel. Take a screen shot of any synced SharePoint folders.
• Multiple reboots are a normal part of the rebuild process.
• If the rebuild fails for any reason, press and hold the Power Button for 30 seconds to shut down the system. Once this is done, turn the device back on and the
rebuild will continue.

1 Run the shortcut manually from the start menu to launch the Windows Refresh
Pop-Up or if your PC is eligible, the Pop-Up will launch automatically.
• Click ‘Start Windows Refresh’ to initiate the process.
• If you select ‘Postpone Windows Refresh’, a shortcut will be created on your
desktop to run again at a convenient time.
