 All sentences and proper nouns start with a capital letter
 All sentences have punctuation
 All words are spelt correctly
 There is a range of sentences (simple, compound, complex)
 A thesaurus was used to find interesting synonyms

Reading strategies checklist

 Visualising images
 Hearing character voice through the text
 Predicting what might happen
 Summarising what is happening

I can respond by:

 Asking questions
 Relating the text to my own experiences
 Making insightful comments
 Feeling involved
 Empathising with the protagonist (or not)

I can reflect by:

 Rationalising what is happening

 Re-reading to find more information
 Re-interpreting to build connections
 Interpret patterns (theme. Language, structure)
 Relate to previous reading experiences
 Establish a relationship with the author/narrator
 Relate a text to its time and place to understand context
