PCA-Human Resource Frame Worksheet


Worksheet Objectives:
1. Describe the human resource frame
2. Apply the human resource frame to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

The situation that I am dealing with is needing additional support staff for a growing and
busy pediatric clinic but the leadership level that approves the additional support is not
involved firsthand with the clinic so they don’t see the actual need and just go based on
numbers so trying to have them understand the need for additional support staff is a bit
tricky.

2) Describe how the human resources of the organization influenced the situation.

The human resources of the organization and the situation allow us to understand
how things align. In big organizations, human resources helps us to understand and feel at
ease that we have the support from our higher leadership team to ensure that the things
we need will be heard and considered. In many organizations, you are able to see how the
needs of certain situations are rolled out as they align with the long-term strategy plans
that an organization can have. The human resources at times though won’t align and that
is where we notice that there isn’t proper alignment with the needs of certain parts of the
organization and the long-term strategies that the organization has. The human resources
in my situation are conflicting and now causing bigger barriers to try and get what I need
approved.

The human resources of the organization influenced my situation for myself to


follow the correct chain of command and ask for what I need for support to align with the
long term strategies of the organization. I understood that the pediatric service line does
not really bring in enough money where execuctve leadership thinks that we need the
support that we are asking for. With bringing on more providers it should not be hard to
make executive leadership understand the need for more support staff but it is. Supplying
all the data needed to explain my case is important to make sure that my situation ends

positively and I am able to create a healthy work environment for my current staff as I
listen and emphasize their needs of needing more support.

3) Recommend how you would use the human resources for an alternative course of
action regarding your case.

When major changes are going to occur to a clinic that are going to positively
disrupt the current flow of the clinic I believe there should be processes put into place to
have leaders be able to successfully push out the changes to their staff and it not feel
overwhelming. The feeling of being overwhelmed is something we hear constantly from
staff. Making sure that they are not feeling that way when you are bringing them more
work is important. In the long term for any organization yes you have goals and measures
to meet but the people are important.
An alternative course I would take is when new doctors would be joining a
practice I would understand the increase in patient volume that is going to bring into that
specific clinic and I would make sure the support staff was already allotted for. That
clinic is going to need support staff and we could not allow our current staff to feel like
they are going to be thrown more work and not given any help. This would allow for an
easier leadership experience as well as the organization always reminding every level of
the company to feel like they are supported and heard.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.

For my situation keeping my staff in mind during the changes that are going to
come with adding such important staff to the clinic, I would make sure that my
organization is set up with the belief of always putting our staff’s needs that are important
first hand. Making sure that we keep a dedicated staff that sees that we don’t leave them
without what they need to complete their everyday tasks effectively and not being
overwhelmed. I would not have the mindset that every clinic runs the same and we
manage them all the same. Making sure that every clinic’s needs are met separately.
