Lázaro Cardenas Biography

Lazaro Cardenas del Río was born on May 21, 1895, he was born in the state of Michoacán.
His parents were Damaso Cárdenas Pinedo and Felicitas del Rio Amezcua, Cardenas was the
third son of the marriage, and the first male child in his family. His sisters were Angelina,
Josefina and Margarita and his brothers were Damaso, Alberto, Francisco and José Raymundo.

Cardenas was also part of the military force since 1913 during the Civil Mexican War. Later,
he was Mexico’s president from December 1934 until November 1940. Some of Cardenas’s
important reforms were: the agrarian reform, nationalization of Mexico’s oil industry and
expropriation of national railways.

In 1960 he was an ally of the Cuban Revolution, and he was one of the most controversial
figures and a symbol for the left governments in Mexico.
