3. COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
This course provides a broad background of the concepts and practices of
contemporary finance. Topics include role of finance in the management, working with
financial statements, cash flows, financial planning, time value of money, discounted
cash flows, the valuation of bond and stocks, capital budgeting. To provide students
with the principal theoretical concepts and basic analytical tools of corporate financial
management. The course is designed to lay a solid foundation in the area of financial
management for non-finance concentration.

Tentative Course Outline: The schedule and lecture contents will be revised depending on

9. COURSE REQUIREMENT & EXPECTATION
Some questions in Questions and Problems at the end of each chapter are assigned
and will be solved in classes.
Assignment and Exam
There are 2 assignments and 1 final exam. Each individual assignments account for
20% of the total grade and one final exam of 90 minutes accounts for 50% of the total
grade. Students have permission to take the final exam when they attend more than 80% of
the total classes. Make-up exams will not be offered.
The key to success in this course is consistency of effort because the course is
quantitative and cumulative in nature. The lecture will be much easier to understand if you
do the reading prior to the lecture covering the material. Thus it is expected that students
read relevant chapters.

Grading Policy: Grades will be determined by the percentages listed below.

Students who are caught in cheating and copying others will receive “F”
regardless of any reason
Class Participation
Class participation points will be based on general class attendance, contribution in class
and submit mini case on Turnitin. Poor class attendance, little contribution in class will
result in a lower-class participation grade.
Below are class rules:
1. Arrive on time and be seated and ready to begin when the class begins. If you do
arrive late for more than 30 minutes, you will not be counted for that class.
2. Prepared – read the readings assigned.
3. Turn off cell phones during classes.
4. Do not engage in individual discussions
5. No food in class time
6. Participate by contributing comments and questions during the discussions. The
instructor will call on students randomly during the class if participants do not
volunteer.

Communication:
You can communicate during office hours, email or in class discussions. You also
are welcome to make separate appointments. I will be available before and after class, but
only for short questions. I also encourage feedback on the classes, lectures, teaching and
reading material. We enhance the class every semester and your thoughts are valuable in
the process
