Goal of the course

• The goal of the course is a basic understanding of material science

and technical mechanics in the context of ice

• You understand the specifics of ice as a material and how it affects

its mechanical behavior

• You will be able to make calculations based on continuum

mechanics

• You get an understanding of the existing gaps in the state of the art
(where your future contribution is needed)

• No exercises, but some “home study assigments”

v
F RANZ VON B OCK UND P OLACH , FRANZ . VONBOCK@ UNI- HAMBURG. DE SEITE 4
Exam

• Oral exam at the end of the lecture period

(should be done soon after the lectures)

– 7 minutes for a „self chosen“ talk

– 15 - 20 minutes for questions

– Exam soon after the lectures
