Essay Sample(Agree/Disagree – Template-1)
According to health experts there should be a total ban on cigarette smoking
in public areas in view of the fatal health hazards it poses. To what extent do
you agree/disagree with this view?
A general opinion held by professionals from health sector is that as a
consequence of the major dangers involved in allowing people to smoke in
crowded areas, there should be a law that prohibits the usage of public areas
to smoke. In view of the several merits purported to this argument, I find it
more logical to endorse this view to a large extent.
Firstly, there are strong factual evidence to support the argument that
smoking is one of the major reasons that cause lung cancer and many other
fatal deceases that take millions of people’s lives world over. We have several
such reports before us, which give credence to this contention. A typical
example that can strengthen this point is the recent alarming study report by
a UN sponsored NGO about an exponential growth in the smoking triggered
deaths, globally.
Secondly, how innocent passive smokers are forced to inhale the smoke
exhaled by the smokers can also be advanced as a strong argument to
support my view. This can be established by the rising incidence of lung cancer
among young non-smokers due to the inhaling of smoke exhaled by the
smokers. Instances of even teenagers suffering from smoking related ailments
can be seen, which can prove this contention without a doubt.
However, although it is a fact that a total ban on smoking in public places is
the need of the hour, we cannot completely deny the fact that habitual
smokers are bound to suffer, as a result. Hence this calls for a detailed study
and solution to this problem also, before going for any kind legislation.
In conclusion, notwithstanding the argument that smokers will have major
issues, which should be addressed, I am in agreement with the view that
public smoking should be made illegal, after addressing the issues suffered by
habitual smokers.
