MISS SAIGON

Miss Saigon is centered on the life and journey of a 17-year old recently orphaned
Southern Vietnamese bargirl named Kim, who met and fell in love with an American sergeant
named Chris at the later part of the Vietnamese war. It tells of the many dreams the women had
in spite of the war, and the measures they had to take to try to get off the borders of the country.

It gradually spirals to the truth that sometimes, absences do not make the heart grow
fonder, instead they make it forget. This was depicted in the tragic event of Chris not going back
to Vietnam to find and marry Kim, but wholesomely countered by the extremely genuine love
and hope Kim had for him by single-handedly taking care of their son Tam and protecting him
from the cruelty of Communist Vietnam and Kim's past betrothed, Thuy.

The movie then finally drops into the dawning of reality that things do not always go to
plan. This was clearly shown when Kim found out that the love of her life was actually already
married to an American girl named Ellen, and when instead of just taking Tam to the States and
supporting Kim financially, Chris ends up holding a dying Kim in his arms, probably not killed
by the gun itself, but by the fact that she would lose the entirety of herself when both Chris and
Tam finally leave her.
