Introduction
The purpose of this document is to indicate the procedure and method through which employees will operate all
vehicles.

PPE will be issued to each employee free of charge, this will then be replaced (free of charge) when visual
damaged can be seen, as prescribed by the manufacturer or annually. Additional PPE will be made available on
site should this have to be replaced on site.

Sequence of Operation
Pre-use:
 Ensure vehicle are inspected as per the vehicle inspection checklist
 Record and keep register in site file
 Load bakkie with the required tools and equipment
 Ensure tools and equipment’s is loaded properly and secured if necessary
 Ensure that load do not overhang more than 300 millimeters beyond the front end of the vehicle; or more
than 1.8m beyond the rear end of the vehicle.
 Use red flags if load overhang.
 Safe vehicle mass not to be exceeded with loading of materials.
 Adjust seat and mirrors
 Set radio and connect mobile phone to Bluetooth function.

 Ensure windscreen and mirrors are clean
 Ensure first aid kit and fire extinguisher is available.
 Ensure no loose items are in the driving cab
 Ensure vehicle license and driver license is valid and available
 Driver must ensure he has a valid medical and fit to drive
 Driver must adhere to Vodacom Absolute Rules
 Plan beforehand which route will be taken to site
 If journey requires driving more than 150km one way, a journey management plan must be submitted.

Driving:
 If using a GPS, set it before driving. Pull over at a safe place if adjustments needs to be made
 Before starting vehicle, ensure that all employees are in the vehicle and seatbelts are fastened
 Start vehicle and ensure that all warning lights goes out
 Ensure surroundings are clear and pull off slowly
 Commence to drive to destination
 Ensure that all road traffic laws are adhered to.
 During inclement weather e.g. poor visibility, rain – reduce travelling speeds to reflect conditions.

Arriving on Site:
 When arriving at destination, switch off vehicle, apply hand brake and remove keys.
 Switch on construction LED or rotating light
 Set out flagman at the start of the proposed construction area to warn and slow down oncoming traffic
and make them aware of the expected road hazards as they advance.
 Set up traffic signs and delineators as per DFA Traffic Management Standard.
 Offload vehicle.
