Glasgow

Hello everyone, today I’m here to talk about Glasgow, an important city of Scotland.

Glasgow is the city where the class goes.

Where is located Glasgow?

Glasgow is located in Scotland, in the council área of Glasgow. Here you have the map.

What can you do there?

In Glasgow you can visit the George Square, the St. Mungo’s cathedral, the center mural trail
and the Kelvingrove museum.

The George square: This square was built in the year 1781 in honor to the king George III. It has
some sculptures and beautiful monuments. The town hall is near this square.

The St. Mungo’s cathedral: This cathedral is an example of the gothic architecture. It is the
oldest building of the city. It was built in the 12th century and it was remormed in the 15th
century.

Inside, we can see some incredible stained glass windows and seven sculptures, they represent
the seven sins.

Here, we can also see the crypt where St. Mungo is buried.

The center mural trail: This trail is in the city and it pass between a lot of incredible graffitis
Billy Connelly has painted a lot of murals of St. Mungo and other things. Here we can see: The
world’s most economic taxi, Argyle Street Café, Spaceman, Glasgow’s tiger, St. Enoch and child,
Fellow residents, The legend of St. Mungo and Honey I shrunk the kids.

The Kelvingrove museum: The museum was opened in 1901, it was the city’s palace of fine
arts.

On mondays someone play the organ in the hall.

The west court has a lot of sculptures, an airplane of the 2nd worldwide war, a dissected
elephant, an animal exhibition, an ancient egypt exhibition and a history exhibition.

At the east court there are a lot of floating heads, tables and a lot of famous and marvellous
paintings.

Finally, the low level has the temporal exhibitions.

St. Mungo

St. Mungo is the patron saint of Glasgow. He appears in a lot of paintings and sculptures, like in
the Kelvingrove museum.
The legend says that he was the son of a witch. His mother fell off a cliff, but he survived and
years later he founded the city of Glasgow. He began with the cathedral.

In Harry Potter St. Mungo appears like a wizard and there is a hospital with his name: The St.
Mungo Hospital of diseases and magic wounds.

The best restaurants

The best restaurants of Glasgow are: The Hanoi Bike Shop, La Lanterna (Hope Street), Ox and
Finch, Ubiquitous Chip, The Gannet and The Finnieston.

The best hotels

The best hotels of Glasgow are: The Z Hotel Glasgow, The Yotel Glasgow, The Motel One
Glasgow and The Ibis Glasgow City Centre and all the hotels are in the center of the city.

Festivities

The most important festivity of Glasgow is the St. Mungo Festival. This festivity is in Jannuary
and this year was from 8th to 14th of Jannuary. The St. Mungo Festival celebrates their patron
saint and it does that more people go to Glasgow and know it.

Sports

Like in all Scotland the most popular sports are golf, football and rugby.
