2. INTRODUCTION
To prepare and qualify the new drilling rig to be used for the drilling of a number of wells for SNPC in MKB it is proposed
to use the rig to drill a 26” hole section to approx. 40m MD/TVD BGL, and run and cement 20” casing.
20” casing is available but not yet threaded. A casing shoe with float has not yet been found. The rig and cementing
equipment, materials and supplies can be made available for this proposed activity.

2.1 PROPOSED CASING AND CEMENTING PROGRAM

It is proposed to drill a 26” hole to approx. 40m MD/TVD RT in 2 stages – 17-1/2” pilot hole, followed by a run with a 26”
drillbit to open the hole to 26” to a depth of approx. 40 m MD/TVD RT.
The drilling fluid will be viscous spud mud with high vis sweeps to ensure a clean hole to run casing into.
NOTE: It is highly recommended to thread the casing and fit casing couplings to facilitate the running of the casing and
to ensure the casing is free of leaks and other weak points that may impact the drilling program later. It is also highly
recommended to source a 20” casing shoe with float, modified to accommodate a cement stinger – this will greatly
simplify the cement job and guarantee no excessive amount of cement inside the 20” casing to drill out after officially
spudding the well at a later date.
The program will outline several alternatives to perform the casing and cementation job, based on whether or not the
casing will be threaded and whether, or not a 20” float shoe can be sourced prior to the job.
The 20” Conductor will be installed by drilling a 17-1/2” pilot hole to 40m below ground level then drilling 26” and running
the 20” casing.

2.2 17-1/2” PILOT HOLE

The BHA for the 17-1/2” pilot hole section will be made up as follows:
RECOMMENDED BHA
S URFACE TO 34M

COMPONENT QTY O.D. BOTTOM CONNECTION T OP CONNECTION COMMENTS/P ROVIDER

M ILL T OOTH B IT 1 17-1/2" 6-5/8" REG PIN

X-OVER 1 8” 6-5/8” REG PIN 4-1/2” IF BOX(NC50) RIG
HWDP 2 5” 4-1/2” IF PIN (NC50) 4-1/2” IF BOX(NC50) RIG

Make up a 17-1/2” Bit, bit sub and X/O on 5” drill pipe and drill 17-1/2” hole with using a Xanthum Gum Viscous spud
mud with maximum flow 900 lpm and maximum 50 rpm. At 40m BGL spot a viscous pill over the 40m hole section and
slowly/carefully pull the BHA out of hole.

2.3 26” HOLE X 20” CONDUCTOR

Make up a 26” Bit, bit sub and X/O on 5” drill pipe and drill 26” hole with using a Xanthum Gum Viscous spud mud with
maximum flow 900 lpm and maximum 50 rpm. At 40m BGL spot a viscous pill over the 40m hole section and
slowly/carefully pull the BHA out of hole avoid jerky movements and knocking excess sand into the hole. Laydown BHA.
Pick up 20” Conductor and run to bottom If the casing is threaded and fitted with couplings – make up casing to the
recommended torque at each connection. If unthreaded, weld each joint to the previous – carefully inspect each welded
seam for potential leaks and weak points. Once on bottom fill the annulus with G-class Cement.
If needed, top fill the annulus with 1.9 SG G-class cement, until the 20” annulus is full to the bottom of the cellar.

2.4 CEMENT SLURRY DESIGN & PUMPING PROCEDURES

Cement volume shown below is based on planned well bore geometry and 50% excess in open hole annulus.
Note: the below table is a guide only - recalculate volumes prior to mixing based on actual casing landing
points.
Cementing field designs and volume calculations will be discussed with Olive Energy rig Supervisor and cementer prior
to performing any and all cementing operations. Drilling Manager and Engineer will be informed prior to performing any
and all cementing operations.

2.5 ALTERNATIVE 1 – USING CASING SHOE WITH FLOAT AND STRINGER.

• Install and line up extraction pumps in the well celllar to the waste pit.
• After running 20” casing to 40m, run in hole with cement stinger and sting into float shoe. Circulate at low rate (<900 lpm)
bottom up to ensure good circulation. Pump cement through stinger into the annulus and monitor returns at surface. Dump
all returns into the waste pit from the cellar.
• Pull stinger out of the shoe and check that float is holding. Circulate to clean the drillstring from any cement that may be
inside.

2.6 ALTERNATIVE 2 – USING CASING SHOE WITHOUT STINGER.

• Install and line up extraction pumps in the well celllar to the waste pit.
• After running 20” casing to 40m, Install circulating swage on 20” casing. Circulate at low rate (<900 lpm) bottom up to
ensure good circulation. Pump cement into the casing and monitor returns at surface. Open circulating swage and insert
20” cement plug. Re-install swage and displace the plug with approx. 7m3 of drilling fluid. Dump all returns into the waste
pit from the cellar.
• Bump the plug – max pressure 50 psi and check that float is holding.

2.7 ALTERNATIVE 3 – CEMENT WITHOUT CASING SHOE/FLOAT.

• NOTE: It is important that the last casing joint has a 20” casing coupling installed to allow for the placement of a circulating
swage.
• Install and line up extraction pumps in the well celllar to the waste pit.
• After running 20” casing to 40m, Install circulating swage on 20” casing, ensure a circulating valve is present in the fluid
line just before the swage. Circulate at low rate (<900 lpm) bottom up to ensure good circulation. Pump cement into the
casing and monitor returns at surface. Open circulating swage and insert 20” cement plug. Re-install swage and displace
the plug with approx. 7m3 of drilling fluid – DO NOT OVERDISPLACE. Dump all returns into the waste pit from the cellar.
• When plug is displaced to to correct depth – close the circulating valve above the circulating swage to avoid U-tubing of
the cement into the 20” casing and wait for cement to set. Use samples collected at surface and the lab report to verify the
setting time of the cement. When cement is set, open circulating valve and ensure there is not back-flow. If back flow,
close valve and wait another 6 hours and open valve again.
• If no backflow the circulating swage may be removed.
Cut the 20” to the required level to install the casing spool and diverter for the drilling of the next hole section.
