teachers teach for learners to acquire basic knowledge, skillsand values The
emphasis is on academic content for students to learn the basic skills or
the fundamental R’s, ‘riting, ‘r

as these are essential to the
acquisition of higher or morecomplex skills needed in preparation for adult life. •
Theyare expected to be intellectual and moral models of their students. • They are
seen as“fountain” of information and as “paragon of virtue”, if ever there is such
a person.

becoming enlightened and intelligent citizens of a democratic
society •Are identified with need

riculum •This group of teachersteaches learners so they may live life fully NOW not
to prepare them for adult life. •Teachers employ experiential methods. • They
believe that one learns by doing For John
Dewey, the most popular advocate of PROGRESSIVISM, book learning is no
substitutefor actual experience. One experiential teaching method that
progressivist teachers
heavily rely on is the PROBLEM SOLVING METHOD. “ You will learn more of this inyour
principles and strategies of teaching 1”

should, therefore, develop the students’ rational and moral power. According to
Aristotle“ if we neglect the students, reasoning skills, we deprive them of the
ability to use their
higher faculties to control their pa
ssions and appetites.” •Is universal one on the view thatall human beings possess
the same essential nature. •It is not specialist curriculum butrather a general
education. • The perinnialism classroom are “centered around teachers.” •
The teachers do not allow the students interest or experience to substantially
dictate whatthey teach.5.

20.EXISTENTIALISM WHYTOTEACH WHATTOTEACH HOWTOTEACH Help thestudents to understand

and appreciate themselves as unique individuals who acceptcomplete responsibility
for their
thought, feelings and action. •Students are given a widevariety of options form
which to choose. •Students are affordable great latitude in theirchoice of subject
matter. • Focus on individuals • In the use of such strategy, teachers
remain NON- JUDGEMENTAL and take care not to impose their values on theirstudents
since values are personal6.

21.BEHAVIORISM WHYTOTEACH WHATTOTEACH HOWTOTEACH Schools are

concerned with the modification and shaping of students’ behavior by providing for
a
favorable environment , since they believe that they are a product of their
environment.Techers teach to respond favorably to various stimuli in the
environment Teachers oughtto make the stimuli clear and interesting to capture and
hold the learners attention7.

Abstract: In an article from Philippine Star in 2019, Philippines received the
lowest score inreading comprehension among 79 countries in the 2018 Programme for
International StudentAssessment (PISA). This is alarming as Reading is one of the
most significant skills that peoplemust master as a human being. Readers must be
given the opportunity to explore new andalternative reading techniques that may
help enhance their reading skills. In this study, the mainobjective is to introduce
Bionic Reading to a new environment, and test if it has an effect on theReading
Speed and Reading Comprehension of selected students of De La Salle University —
Dasmariñas. This study utilized a quantitative and experimental method,
specifically the StaticGroup Comparison design which uses two different groups: the
bionic as the treatment group andthe traditional as the control group. By the end
of the study, it is observed that Bionic readershave a slower reading speed and
lower reading comprehension than the non-bionic readers.Overall, it was revealed
that Bionic Reading, in terms of reading speed and readingcomprehension, does not
have a positive effect on the readers’ skills.KeyTerms: Bionic reading, Reading
speed, Reading comprehensionINTRODUCTIONReading is a crucial skill necessaryto
participate in society, yet not everyonehas the same level of proficiency when
itcomes to reading and comprehension. ThePhilippines, for example, scored the
lowestin reading comprehension in the 2018Programme for International
StudentAssessment or PISA among 79 participatingcountries and economies (San Juan,
2019).This highlights the need for innovativeapproaches to improve literacy and
readingspeed. One such approach is BionicReading, which uses word segments
directlyrelated to their meanings to speed up wordrecognition in the brain and
enhancecomprehension (Casutt, 2022). With the riseof technology and the pandemic-
inducedshift to online platforms, Bionic Reading hasthe potential to be a
revolutionary inimproving reading abilities. In this article, our objective is to
promote Bionic Readingas an alternative reading approach toindividuals who may not
be aware of thistechnique. By doing so, the researchers hopeto discover if Bionic
Reading is a better reading technique than the traditional way of reading and
ultimately improve reading proficiency, particularly in the moderndigital
environment where the need for strong reading skills is greater than ever before.
