Creating a profile on Pinterest

To create a profile, go to Pinterest.com and you will see the window in figure 1.

Figure 1

Select the “Join Pinterest” button and you will see the page below.

Figure 2

If you wish to create your profile using your Facebook or Twitter account, then
select one of those options and follow the relevant steps. If not then select the
“or, sign up with your email address” option.

A page like figure 3 will be shown.

Figure 3

This is where you then enter your details, upload a profile picture if you want
and click the “Create account” button to take you to the page shown in figure
4.

Figure 4

This page asks you to follow 5 boards; choose from the categories on the left
hand side and follow relevant boards that interest you. After this click “next”
and you will be taken to the page in figure 5.

Figure 5

This is the homepage for your profile. From here you can then select to have
a look around, as shown in figure 5.

Creating a board and pinning to it

From the homepage, there is a drop down menu to the right hand corner as
shown in figure 6; from here select “Your Boards”.

Figure 6

This will load the page shown in figure 7.

Figure 7

As you can see, there are currently no boards created. To create a new one,
click on the “Create a Board” post. A board is the space which you then pin
items to, such as images or websites, so that you or others can look at them.
However, you can have up to 3 secret boards that others cannot see. Once
you have selected to create a new board, the box shown in figure 8 will be
displayed.

Figure 8

This is where you put a name for your board and description etc. Once you
have done this select “Save Changes”. This will load the page shown in figure
9.

Figure 9

This is where your pins will be shown for that board. There will be no pins
shown until you create one. To do this click on the “Add a pin” button. This will
load the box shown in figure 10.

Figure 10

This is where you choose where your pin is coming from, so if it’s an image or
file you want to upload, you would choose “From Computer”, whereas if it’s a
website you would choose “From a website”, or if it’s an image you have
found from somewhere else on Pinterest you would choose the “From
Pinterest” option.
To upload a file, choose the “From computer” button and what’s in figure 11
will be shown. (For other items follow those links and add the relevant details,
which is a very similar process to uploading a file.)

Figure 11

You can then choose what you want to upload and add a description. Once
this is done select the “Pin it” button to finish. This will then be added to your
relevant board, as shown in figure 12.
