Duties and
responsibilities 1. To prepare materials, and setup and operate specialist battery ink mixing, reel-to-reel
coating, calendering, slitting and battery cell assembly and testing equipment for the
production of Lithium-ion and alternative technology batteries, using industrial
manufacturing equipment. To ensure the high quality demands are met, operation of
the equipment will require a detailed understanding of the manufacturing processes,
identifying and resolving problems as they arise, and ensuring continuous
improvements based on Six Sigma methods.

2. To develop new and update existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensure
adherence with established procedures, protocols and detailed record keeping to
ensure high quality and reproducible results.

3. To source and order consumables and materials required for cell manufacture,
ensuring delivery, storage, handling and usage are in accordance with the suppliers,
WMG and our customers’ quality requirements.

4. To support the Facilities Officer and ensure the diverse range of specialist
manufacturing equipment meets WMG’s ongoing requirements and is regularly
cleaned, calibrated and maintained in accordance with the Maintenance Control Plan
(MCP).

5. To provide support for both academic and industrial projects, by operating production
equipment and supervising students, researchers, staff and external collaborators using
equipment. In addition, provide technical support for the Project Engineer and Project
Manager ensuring the timely delivery of projects to the expected high quality
standards. During production activities overtime and shift work may be necessary to
ensure deliverables are met.

6. To participate in meetings (at WMG and offsite) and contribute in technical discussion
with both internal and external collaborators.

7. To provide safety inductions and promote a safe working environment ensuring that all
personnel adhere to laboratory safety rules and Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH)
standards, informing the Safety Officer and Facilities Officer of safety breaches or
concerns.
