HARRIET TUBMAN

Harriet tubman made history as the first black woman to appear on an American
banknote.
It is a symbolic figure of the fight against slavery.
She is an American activist in favor of the abolition of slavery of African-
Americans, then anti-racist and feminist activist.
Her nickname is grandmother moses
It is actually called Aramita ross.
She was a writer, suffragist, nurse, human rights activist, abolitionist
Her husband's name was john tubman .
She was born around 1820 and died in 1913.
Harriet tubman was a child slave until September 17, 1849.
1849 : she decided to flee the plantation alone after having saved money for a year
.
harriet tubman makes the decision to return clandestinely to maryland to liberate
her family when she is highly sought after.
Thus, she succeeds in freeing them.
She will return during 10 years which followed 19 times freeing 300 slaves .
In 1863, she was at the head of a naval expedition to Georgia which freed 750
slaves.
After the war she had no resources and lived in a poverty that condemned her to be
a domestic servant.
In 1913 she died anonymously.
I chose this character because her story marked me as the first black woman to
fight against slavery.
