Progressive and emphatic Forms

The progresive form consists of the verb “be” and the present participle of
the verb. the form of be changes to show the tense. in the following
examples.progressive form are to show action in progress.

I AM PLAYING BASEBALL ( PRESENT PROGRESSIVE).


I WAS READING A BOOK (PAST PROGRESSIVE).
I WILL BE READING A BOOK (FUTURE PROGRESSIVE).
I HAVE BEEN PLAYING TENNIS WITH MY FRIENDS
(PRESENT PERFECT PROGRESSIVE).
I HAD BEEN PLAYING TENNIS WITH MY FRIENDS
(PAST PERFECT PROGRESSIVE).
THEY WILL HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR TWO HOURS WHEN THE PARK OPENS
(FUTURE PERFECT PROGRESSIVE.)
Emphatic Forms

The emphatic form of the verb is used to give emphasis or added force. It consists of the helping verb do and the present
form of the verb

Only the present tense and the past tense have emphatic forms

he does exercise every day.

he did exercise this morning.

Emphatic Forms

Tell whether each verb is progressive

1. do speak

2. will be talking

3. did see

4. are finding
