DEFINE
Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of
transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or
unwanted products into new materials or products perceived
to be of greater quality, such as artistic value or an
environmental value
The items we use to make the foosball game are:

Used
● Cardboard Shoe box - The barrier
● Pegs - The pegs are the people kicking the ball
● Straw - the skewers go in the straw so its more smooth

Items ●

when turning
Coloured paper - To decorate the box
Skewer sticks - The skewers go inside the straw so they
move more smoothly
● Small Ball - so you can play the game

THE 6RS OF SUSTAINABILITY
The 6 Rs of sustainability are Rethink, Refuse,
Reduce, Reuse, Repair and Recycle. These are
all useful terms to explore reducing the impact
of technology on people and the environment.

The reason for the order of the 6 Rs is their

priority, priority comes first and is important. The
reason why recycling comes last is because you
could want to reuse it or repair it beforehand
because once you recycle it you can't get it
back.
WHAT IS UPCYCLING?
The act of taking something no longer in
use and giving it a second life and new
function. In doing so, the finished product
often becomes more practical, valuable
and beautiful than what it previously was.

Examples of upcycling include using

materials from plastic bottles to make
new plant pots or reclaimed wood to
make quality furniture - like we did when
we first moved into our new house.
LOCAL EFFORTS
Reasons for why we should recycle
include:
● Reduces landfill waste
● Conserves resources
● Saves energy
● Creates job
● Saves money

Monash is supporting recycling by - and I quote “From next week, we’ll be working with
an external company to visually inspect recycling and green waste bins and provide
feedback on residents’ recycling efforts. We’ll help you learn what can and can’t go in
your recycling and green waste bins by letting you know if you are recycling right or if
there are items in your bins that don’t belong.” Not only this, but several local
businesses are following in these footsteps, the majority working as non-profit
organizations.
OUR REASON WHY
We chose this item because we In fact, this item is consists of several

DECONSTRUCTION
As previously mentioned by Rohaan, the parts of our
table soccer or foosball game consist of:
● The cardboard box - the overall pitch for the game.
● Straws/ Skewers - The handles which are used for
controlling the ‘players’.
● Marble - The ‘soccer’ ball.
● Paint/ Coloured paper - To add minor details like
the grass, lines of the pitch or just to add i guess
personality in a way to the game.
● Pegs - What’s a game of soccer without players? In
this case, the pegs pose as the soccer players on
the pitch.
● Tape - This can add grip onto the handles but also
used to secure any loose pieces of unstable parts.
