2. Review Ask the students to recall the previous lesson through the following questions:
what are the functions of fuel system? how important are the components of fuel
system?
3. Motivation Brand Pit!
1. Group the students into 2
2. Let them identify the brand of the car based on the logo that will prompt
on the screen
3. The group will earn 5 points for each correct answer
4. The group with the highest score will be declared as the winner.

(Mitsubishi) (Toyota) (Chevrolet)

B. Developmental
Activities

1. Activity Let the students watch two commercial videos about cars.

2. Analysis a. What is the common thing that you have noticed in the two advertisements?
b. Why are cars very important for people?
c. What do you think is the most important part of the car that makes it run aside
from fuel?
d. Are you familiar with automotive batteries?

3. Abstraction The Automotive battery supplies electric current to operate the starting motor
and ignition system while starting the engine. It also acts as a voltage stabilizer
by supplying current for the lights, radio, and other electrical accessories when
the alternator is not handling the load. In addition, the battery supplies a small
current to the volatile ceremony in the electronic control (ECM) while the Ignition
key is off.

The battery is an electro chemical device which uses chemicals to produce

electricity, the amount of electricity it can produce is limited. As the chemical in
the battery is depleted the battery runs down and is discharged. It can be
recharged by supplying it with electric current from the vehicle alternator or from
a battery charger. The depleted chemicals are restored to their original condition
as the battery becomes recharged.

TYPES OF BATTERY

Below are two types of automotive batteries. On the left, caps can be removed
to check the battery state of charge and to add water if needed. On the right, a
maintenance-free battery that requires no additional water. The charge indicator
in the top shows the state of change.

FUNCTIONS OF AUTOMOTIVE BATTERIES
The battery performs some essential functions, such as starting the engine and
lighting up other electrical components. Below is a summary of the functions of
car batteries.

Engine Starter
Without batteries, it is almost impossible to start auto-engines. The battery acts
as the car’s powerhouse, storing chemical energy that immediately converts to
electrical upon igniting the car. The batteries then distribute this power to parts
of the vehicle that require it.

Power Storage
The battery stores the power needed to restart the car and run other electronics.
An ideal battery, even after long-term storage, should be able to power the
vehicle when properly connected. As soon as the car starts working, the
alternator recharges the battery to ensure enough power to run all parts of the
car. Also, the battery begins to store chemical energy again for future use.

Collaboration with Alternator to Power Other Electrical Components

The alternator is responsible for controlling the actions of the car’s electrical
parts, like lighting, air conditioner, wipers, etc. The battery provides the needed
power for the alternator to power the other electronics in the vehicle.

Regulates Voltage
There are cases where other car components may overwork, which can lead to
accruing overly high voltage, which is harmful to the vehicle. The modern-day
battery is equipped with features that allow it to absorb some of this energy,
thereby regulating the developing voltage. Hence, the car gets protection based
on this battery function.
4. Application 1. Group the class into 2
2. Assign each group the following task:
Group 1: Role play the importance of battery in a car and perform battery
testing in front of the class (with the assistance of the teacher) – Kinesthetic and
Linguistic Intelligences
Group 2: Present a TV commercial about battery and its parts and perform
